so just maybe that 5 in the event invite really wasn't about the name of the new iPhone, and was a misdirection based on 5 major product refreshes.

I like your thinking - kind of thought that Apple mightn't go the obvious.

Whats are the 5 Majors though given that there is a rumoured October event as well?

iPhone
iOS6
iPad Mini (See note above)
iMac
Mac Pro
MacBook 13 Retina
iTunes 11
iCloud overhaul (to gives us the things we lost when they killed .Mac/MobileMe)
;)

Yay for Power Nap support on the 2010 MBA! :D

Now if only it was available for the 2010 MBP, but I doubt that will happen. I only have a 2010 MPB, but it's nice to see that they're including the 2010 model of the Air as well, since it's only two years old.

I hope that iTunes 11 will be announced tomorrow, and hopefully with a lot of great features. I just hope that if iTunes 11 is announced, they don't change the music layout to look like the iPad music player, unless we get to keep the list view option

I'm a little cautious about so much Facebook integration. I don't even use the Twitter features on my phone. Perhaps I'm in the minority. P

erhaps this is a foretelling of Facebook's integration in iTunes, and that's something I'd be interested in.

I just want it to fix the nasty freezing bug I've experienced since updating to ML. Nothing responds to the cursor, graphic errors appear on the dock icons and the only way to fix is a forced reboot. I never had anything comparable occur under Lion.

Happened to me for a while, especially after wake up and yes not with SL (skipped Lion)

It got frustrating enough that I decided to re- install 10.8.1 over everything.

Everything is fine since then.

- An option to discard the changes in the original document when choosing Save As

Ding dong, the witch is dead!

Die, new document model, die!

Given the enormous barrier in learning to use the OS it presented to Windows switchers, the majority of Mac new users, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw the defaults in 10.9 quietly try to pretend the whole new document model never happened.

And yet so many people here tried to defend the indefensible.

Since you seem to know for sure, what is causing the current outage?

That is something I have no idea about.

But I can tell you that the seeding of this release is not causing an outage of [redundant] mail servers.

As long as the messages are iMessages (blue), all of the iMessages will show up on every device that you own that is signed into the same iCloud account.

I can see SOME benefit to people sharing iCloud accounts... but if you're sharing it and using iMessages, I for one wouldn't want everybody sharing it to be able to see all my messages or be sending and receiving using my account (you will get every text sent and received... including all notifications, unless they've been read on the device being used at the time).

Hopefully Apple will have addressed this as there must be a large number of people like me where husband and wife each have an iPhone and Mac/iPad yet only a single AppleID/iCloud account otherwise they'd have to buy music/apps etc. twice. Perhaps link messages to the email address of the user account on the Mac?

It has been TORTURE using iMessage and having two different conversations on your iPhone because one is with the email and the other with your telephone number.

I think this is the textbook definition of a "First World problem." :p

I like the surprise change to "Save As". Apple has now reversed all changes that I care for in one way or another to this versioning system introduced in Lion.

Can you explain why you find this so useful (other than getting a new feature of course :D)? I have the 2010 MBA, so I guess I'll get it too. From what I read about it, it's not something I've always missed or whatever, but maybe I'm missing something...

Actually, it's just like you said. I think it's going to be one of those features that while though isn't critically useful, should prove to be convenient. It's actually my wife's MBA, and every time she wakes up, it's immediately bombarded with notifications and catching up with all the iCloud syncing all at once. All this syncing and updating in an iCloud world just demands a feature like this.

Also we have a Time Capsule, so I think the backups during PowerNap and the automatic updates will be nice and convenient as well.

I do not agree!
In Lion I found it a little anoying. But in ML I think there are some things that make it more natural than the old document model.
Example: When I open an email attachment in ML, it is opened as if it is a new unsaved doc. Pre-Lion, if I made changes and saved it, it would be saved somewhere in the email-attachment cache in your Library... good luck finding it back. Now it just says: "Hey, this doc is new, please tell me where to put it..."

In Lion it was a little too extreme change, but in ML they are finding the right balance...
The biggest pre is the versioning system behind it! Saved me a couple of times already!

Well that's a load of 'meh'!

Unless you're a FB/Twitter acolyte, it seems that this update is hardly compelling (unless there are undislosed critical security updates rolled in).
- An option to discard the changes in the original document when choosing Save As
I can honestly say that I have never preceived a need for this. In fact, I can't imagine under what circumstances anyone would need to use it.
- New preference to have Safari launch with previously open webpages
I think that this is, quite literally, the only thing that made me think 'useful'. But even that is only an automation of the 'open last browser session' command.

Perhaps Apple could fix the ugly skeuomorphism. If that involves sacking Scott Forstall to attain harmony and consensus, I'm good with that!

10.8.2 Build 12C50 is still locking out VT-X, really hope this is fixed before the final release

This certainly is something which caused me to always save attachements to the desktop first and then delete it after a few days when I did not remember anymore why I put it there. Definitely something worth redesigning. But this has nothing to do with the new Save- and Versioning System, its is just something which had not been implemented.

My biggest problem with "the new document model"™ is that it constantly enforces me to think about managing originals and duplicates of my documents.

Why all the new options? If I want to save the original and a copy of it, I simply press Save first and then Save As. Done. I don't want to be constantly reminded that I might, in semi-rare cases, be wanting to create a branch, which I naturally would not initiate by a Save-As operation but rather by a duplication of the file. Was that not simple and straight-forward enough?

How was this not included until this point?

I'm struggling to understand how Apple thought that giving people 'Messages' on the Mac that didn't do this from the start was a good idea.

In addition it should sync actual text messages not just iMessages as well as syncing notification on ios and osx, making things more convenient for users.

Phone Number

Being able to add my phone number to Mountain Lion is going to be a big deal for me. I love "texting" from within Messages and this was a missing piece that has been a bit frustrating. Hopefully it works as advertised!

Anyone with MacBook Pro Retina is getting better OS performance? (UI transitions, scrolling, and so on)

Save As forever !

Agree 100%, how much simpler could it be.
