So do you think that means they're going to release 598? Or 603 without officially testing it at all?

If Mail is the only thing that's changed in the new build, extensive testing isn't as necessary.

I just updated and now I get terrible screen tearing in Chrome. It sure didn't seem to help anything.

I think at this point it would be better to wait till tomorrow and see what's what.

Apple's new OS X Mavericks packaging leaked.

Just ran an MD5 Checksum for the InstallESD.dmg that's inside the shared support folder of InstallOSXMavericks.app and got this...

Anyone can confirm if this is legit...btw this came from a torrent that i got for the new build. Also, i checked the .plist and i'm getting build version "13A602" instead of 13A603.

I'm pretty sure this is the hash of the entire .dmg.app, not the installesd.dmg file.

The torrent I downloaded was an .app.dmg (DMG file with the Install OS X Mavericks.app inside), and when I ran openssl sha1 on Install OS X Mavericks.app.dmg I got the same sha1 hash you just posted.

Then you did it the wrong way. That method was only intended for developer preview 1. Since then apple have made an executable file called createinstallmedia which makes bootable usbs. For the golden master 13A603 you should do it this way:

Your 8 GB USB drive should be called Untitled and formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). The installer should be called Install OS X Mavericks.app and should be in your Applications folder.

Run this in terminal and wait about 20 minutes:

sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app --nointeraction

You should see something like this:

Erasing Disk: 0%... 10%... 20%... 100%...
Copying installer files to disk...
Copy complete.
Making disk bootable...
Copying boot files...
Copy complete.
Done.

You can then boot up from the USB by holding down the option key, then install the GM from the USB.

This is probably going to be the same for the public release.

Note that this will also install a recovery partition (which the 9to5mac method for DP1 doesn't do).

Where did you get these MD5/SHA1 info's? did you actually run them from the installed.dmg file? and not the app?

Me or BasicGreatGuy?

btw, i did download the .app.dmg too it's just that your suppose to run the md5 for the installesd.dmg which is located under the shared support folder inside the installer.app.

The hash that BasicGreatGuy posted is the same hash I got on the .app.dmg, meaning the hash he posted is the hash of the entire .app.dmg and not the installesd.dmg.

I don't think anyone's posted the installesd.dmg hash yet.

Smooth Scrolling in Mail and Preview question

Since everyone is praising super smooth scrolling in Safari, I would love to know how is it in Mail and Preview (viewing PDFs) and other apps, just as smooth?

thanks for reposting this! i saw your reply in another thread and it was useful for the previous version of GM

im a college student and accomblished it just fine :p see ur degree means nothing ;)

He's just mad that non-developers installed it ahead of time so he's trying to scare people. He doesn't have a clue what he's talking about

The scrolling has improved nearly system wide

iTunes is the only app I've used so far where the scrolling is not smooth at all when you scroll through albums

I've noticed that too with iTunes.

will this get pushed out to the App Store as an update to the last GM Seed (13A598)

Its just as smooth as in safari for me system-wide...except iTunes as others have mentioned.

Even apps like Tweetbot, which had really choppy scrolling when you scrolled through the timeline, are now super smooth. It really makes using the apps more enjoyable

Has anyone seriously noticed any difference whatsoever between the old GM and this new GM aside from any placebo effect?
