My question is. What's services can I use WITHOUT any connections to iCloud? I would like to sync and use my phone, watch and computer over local wifi and Bluetooth without any web services. Then To get files from my Mac I'll Bittorent sync directly between my phone and Mac. What about us who want to limit our connection outside services reliance. We should have our devices work directly with each other if we want, then use iCloud and other cloud service as optional, NOT essential.

I seriously may not upgrade to this OS. And I'm hoping possibly OTHERS might be hesitant to allow their favoritest bestest beloved corporation ever to TAKE OWNERSHIP of THEIR data.

This is why it's important to select "Cancel" or "No" or "Disable" or "Skip" or "Opt out" or "Later" in all these daft, useless cloud functions. They're all big cons to try to entice you into being beholden to the OS provider. Note, don't select the Big Red X as it no longer functions as one expects.

Hoping a guru might help out here.

For those not aware, once you allow Apple to iCloud your system, iCloud becomes the "master" of your data. I've been over this in another thread - but basically, this OS sounds like its turning over even MORE of your information over to iCloud, probably enabled by default (I'm guessing).

So this will be the first OS that actually frightens me. Can those testing it let the rest of us know how to prevent mighty iCloud from having more rights to our data than WE do?

Hey (hey) you (you)... get offa iCloud.

It's bad enough that nastiness is tied to every iApp - I seriously don't wish for it to spread its disease across my desktop or anywhere else. No thanks.

I would be more concern about having a Gmail account.
The new macOS can be set to use iCloud to synchronize your desktop with all your devices.

Apple doesn't live out of data mining, and their goals are to make their users data more secure. If they do something stupid like invading our privacy and get discovered, their reputation will be ruined and they will lose a lot of clients.

That doesn't mean we shouldn't be concerned and don't be "On Guard" to protect our privacy.

Previously, as per being previous, Apple did not OWN my data. They couldn't DELETE what I had created.

Again, I've been through this with Photo Stream. I turned it off. Apple warned me. Sure enough, Apple deleted ALL photos I'd "allowed" iCloud to access from EVERY machine I own.

You turned off PhotoStream, which Apple says very explicitly deletes your PhotoStream pictures on that device. It doesn't touch local photos on the device, or other devices, or photos in your camera roll.

As for downloading your pictures from the cloud, you can do that more easily this way. As that document says, on OS X it will import your pictures automatically by default if you have iCloud Photo Library on.

Again, if you don't want Photostream, don't enable it, and just stick to the syncing functions.

Yeah I was pretty excited fir that feature. Not cool, Apple.

That that's kind of a dick move really. I have an iPhone 6s, an Apple Watch, and a 2012 rMBP. Really?!? There had better be a valid technical reason. It might be worth buying an airport card from a 2013 rMBP and installing it to see if it will work.

When first installing macOS 10.12, the iCloud data syncing is an optional feature separate from the current, familiar iCloud Account syncing. Meaning, you do not have to engage document syncing. You are asked when first installing it. This is the feature that was introduced to manage your data on your devices to ensure enough free space. Consider it similar to "Photos" for iCloud, it's optional. All iCloud services will still be available separate from this new feature.

PS I opted out as it's not a concern of mine. :)

Haven't read through previous comments, but could any one confirm whether the Siri icon can be removed from dock (like lauchpad) without impact its function?

jblagden also suggested that all you need is to upgrade the wireless card:

Or Macs that are a couple years older and have upgraded wireless cards.

Worth a try but I don't know if this will work. It'd be cool if it does though.
