There is already a thread here where one nutcase says the launch was a failure because it sold out and Apple was not able to keep up with demand...

Another genius who never took a class that explained supply and demand...
That is the problem with "Keyboard Commandos". They just have to be smart enough to connect the computer to the Internet. The nonsense seen here with the IPhone 5 was out of this world.

They are very brave behind their Keyboards too, they will say things that they would never say to another persons face!!

The question is what percentage of sales came from current iPhone customers, and what percent are new iPhone customers? How many did we steal from Android?

SERIOUSLY. Ive hated having to pick and choose which music I have with me, and w/ 64GB, I will have plenty of room for a much wider selection of albums. AND apps. And photos, and videos. It's a huge factor for me.

Other reasons? Much faster all-around unit, better antennas, twice as fast data speeds, better camera, and yes, Siri, which I am extremely excited about and I think represents the next big step in human-computer interaction. Underwhelmed, I am not.

Gruber of daringfireball.net had a great link to a comment about why the screen is the size it is. It's because Apple feels that 3.5" is the RIGHT size for a smartphone screen. Why? Pocketable without issue, but here's another thing I hadn't thought of and is oh so true: When used one-handed, your thumb can reach ANY part of the screen without straining. Say that about a 4"+ screen! Just another sign of how much THOUGHT Apple puts into their designs.

That's what iTunes match is all about. You carry all your music library in the cloud and decide what songs you want when you need them anytime. No need for 64gb.

I was one of those who has always wanted a bigger drive...until iCloud came out.

I'm not saying it's wrong to get the bigger size, I just don't need it anymore, especially with a music library of about 120gb.

Yet Apple's stock closed at $369....

I guess if you are buying short term this would be an issue. Look at the long term trend of Apple stock. I look at this as a buying opportunity. Months from now the stock price will be back on its climb to the moon again.

ALL Verizon 16GB Pre-Orders Have Been Delayed

I ordered my 16GB 4S at ten minutes before midnight on the Verizon site and my confirmation said it would be delivered by the 14th, however when I went to check the status of my order it now says it won' be delivered until the 21st. I called Verizon and they said ALL 16GB orders have been delayed until the 21st. So I advise anyone who got a Verizon pre-order to check your status so you can be disappointed like me. What's worse is that even if I go to the store on the 14th I won't be allowed to get one now because it takes 3 days to officially cancel the first order. Grrrrr.

Design Excellence

Why would anyone be unhappy with the exterior design of the iPhone 4S ?

It's near perfection, I don't want a different shape, (least of all not that ugly asymmetrical number some were predicting)

Going from an original iPhone 3G with 8 gigs to an iPhone 4S with 64 gigs will be major! I got my order receipt and look forward to Friday!

Meh... I'll get one when I get one... No hurry, really.

I don't need to get it on launch day to feel like a man...

I have two kids... 'nuff said :D

The point is not to feel like a man, but to feel like a kid again. Every time I get a new Apple product I feel like a ten year old on Christmas morning.

And waiting for it to be delivered is like having the gifts wrapped under the Christmas tree. This year I'll be sharing that experience with my wife and boy is she pumped!!

This really should be the best launch ever.

By waiting longer to release it, they have a bigger pool of folks who are eligible for the upgrade. Also, they've received unprecedented publicity from Steve jobs passing.

I still don't like the form factor though, the teardrop shape iPhone is much better to hold.

By waiting to launch they could have also lost customers. Although, customer satisfaction with apple products is high now and so is brand loyalty.

Well I really wish more people spoke with their wallet. I see so many posts of people saying meh it's an ok upgrade but I'll do it anyways.

If sales would have been lacking apple would bring a AAA phone each year instead of being on the lazy side and having the flock gobble it up.

Not trying to hate on anyone buying it, it's a decent phone. But could have been much better.

The crowd of people that go "meh, it's not what I wanted but I'll buy it anyway" is quite small. Outside of tech forums and the Apple diehards, very few people are like that or as attached to iOS as some of us are.

It was the phone I was expecting (except for the name, still can't believe Apple actually called it 4S) and so I pre-ordered it the minute my carrier made pre-orders available.

There was no doubt this was going to sell well. Sure it's not up to par with the competition and it barely catches up to phones that have been on the market for a few months, but for iOS users, it's quite a big jump over the iPhone 4.

LOL I thought everyone was going to be buying that Sasmung Galaxy thingy.

The Galaxy is old news, the Nexus Prime is the one that is the new Android flavor of the week. I was laughing when I was reading about the Apple haters drooling about the Nexus even though the specs could not be confirmed. These people were using the Nexus Prime as evidence that the iPhone 4S was going to be a sales flop, missing this and missing that.

I know everyone thinks the next generation after the 4s will be the iPhone 5 but if you think about it it's going to be the 6th generation iPhone. Will they skip 5 and go right to the iPhone 6?

If you ordered the phone as soon as apple's store was functioning early Thursday morning what day (approx) do people think the phone will be delivered (based on previous experiences)? Any general ideas? Thanks! z.

I'm just buying a cheaper iPhone 4...I wouldn't of used Siri anyway.

No question that the iPhone 4S is going to sell well. It's the iPhone 4 sales that I am really curious to see. I think it was brillant for Apple to offer the iPhone 4 for $99.

I do want the 64GB and have been hoping for this capacity for two years.

I am subscribed to iTunes Match as well and even though the iOS now makes it possible to delete every song on the phone with just one touch, I still like to have tons of music on my phone just like I did with my 160GB iPod.

With the 64GB phone, it's getting close (but not there yet) where I can stop keeping my two iPods in the car , 160GB and 120GB.

I hate iTunes match because it makes it hard to see what I actually have on the phone by listing every single album and track that is available in the cloud. I've actually turned it off on my phone and just turn it on on the computer when I want to upgrade a 128Kbps album or track.

The 3GS is a dog compared to the iPhone 4. If you prefer creaky plastic to glass and steel, go with Android.

If the 3GS is a dog, the 4 (and 4S) is a hedgehog. I don't think anyone has ever questioned how the curved back of the 3GS is considerably more ergonomic than the brick-like shape of the 4, or how there have been considerably less complains about 3GS shattering after falls than 4s.

See, I'm not interested in having the newest design just because that's what other people claim to be "cool" now (and those are the exact same people who would be oogling over a redesigned iPhone 5, had it been released). I am interested in having something with an ergonomic, resilient and functional design, which is why I am still disappointed with the iPhone 4(S).

I'm not very happy about this as i was hoping that between the 16 month delay and recycling of the overall design and build process, that they could at LEAST stock up on this product so that they wouldn't run out...

So now we're going to have to go through the same damn thing all over again, where you can't even get your hands on a new iPhone unless you A) order it and wait weeks or B) stand on line like an idiot hoping for one of that day's inventory.

I just don't understand why they can't prepare better for a product launch.

THESE THINGS SHOULD NOT BE SELLING OUT.

I think that what you're not factoring in is that some of us get Apple products cyclically. I have an iPhone 3G; some of its weaknesses (compared to newer products) were covered by my iPad 1. I didn't get an iPad 2 because I was always going to replace my 3G with "the phone after the 4," whether it was called the 4S, 5, whatever.

Yes, we all have a corner in our brains that see the latest Apple product as instantly old--heck, MacRumors had an article in the last few days which basically said, "So now that the 4S is confirmed, that tapered rumor? A 5 protoype!!!!" Literally no one in the world has bought and owned a 4S and it's already "old."

My point is unless you commit to buying every new product every time (and if you do, good for you!), you need to decide where and when to get off the hype merry-go-round... because we're already less than 6 months away from being closer to the 5 than the 4S.

It's not "meh, the phone isn't great but I'll buy it," it's "I'm ready for a new phone, and I'm buying this one."

Fact is: There is no "best" screen size for a mobile phone. Whatever size the iPhone screen is, there will be people who think that bigger is better, and there will be people who think that smaller is better. So if a competitor makes a phone with a bigger screen then there will be people who think it is better because of the bigger screen, and if a competitor makes a phone with a smaller screen then there will be people who think it is better because of the smaller screen. I personally think the previous iPod Nano had the optimal size for a music player, and the iPad is a bit too small for an internet + email + games computer. So the iPhone which is both is much too big and much too small at the same time :D At least it's a reasonable size for a phone.

Uh ? Apple does this all the time. Limited offer = perceived increased demand = Media hype = line-ups = more media hype = free publicity.

It's in Apple's best interest to sell out. If they stuffed the channels and had plenty of phones for everyone on day 1, then people would say the launch was a failure, which would probably turn off buyers that are on the fence about whether or not this is a "good buy".

I was going to wait for the 5 whether they released it with the 4s or not. Most folks who don't visit the rumor sites...etc just saw the 4s as what it is...a new phone from Apple.

I have a number of friends that were already about to switch from BB...etc to an iPhone 4, so the 4s only reinforced their decision.

The 4s / 4 can still clearly command a premium - i dont know why but i was surpised at how expensive on/off contract was. Here's hoping another reason for this decision is to be able to price the 5 at the "max" Tier @ $399 on contract. IF it is/was ready and released alongside the 4s, it would shift the economy of scales and make it likely a losing cost prop to sell remaining/old 4 stock.

How about a new / redesign iPhone to go witht the new/redesigned MacBook Pro /dream.
