You’re not a creator, you made a video talking about stuff someone else made.

Tell me when you make anything yourself, when that happens I’ll consider you creative.

But recording yourself gossiping is not “creating”.

Lovely gesture for the rich! I’m minded to wait until any of the British based ones say anything positive and then report them to the Advertising Standards Authority for not labelling it as an #ad.

Infact I’m going to.

We got tough laws here in the UK about things like this :)
its no different than movie/tv stars and athletes getting swag. It's a great way to advertise your products because of their high public profiles. No reason to get so upset over it.

Why do we even care about a headset that costs 2x, has no microphone, and nothing more than a rebranded Beats headset? Check your privilege people. That box doesn't look that great at all - nothing to see here but a company circling the toilet again.

I wish I could get gifts for being an Apple consumer. For having a Homepod, Apple TV, Iphone, Mac, and Ipad, I feel like Apple should give me gifts just for loyalty.

You're on a website that is ALL about talking about things other people have made. You're posting on a forum discussing things other people have made. Do you not see the irony in your sophomoric criticism of a fellow member of this forum?
This site isn’t my source of income, or how I identify my life as, it’s just a place to talk to people.

Step 1.Get a few million people following your Apple purchases and buying what you recommend.
Step 2. Enjoy the free stuff.

The reason they’re sending the headphones is because Apple events are streamed in Dolby Atmos. I always watch them in my Atmos theater (a dedicated/specially built room w/135” screen and a 7.2.4 Atmos surround setup - 7 speakers around you, 4 in the ceiling, 2 subwoofers) and the experience is miles above what you see on YouTube (which is only stereo).

never heard of this guy, nor any other "influencers" other than some that are regularly "featured" on MR. don't do TikTok nor any other social media incl YouTubers ...
If apple thinks they need the "support" of these "influencers", well, that's sad ...

Apple sends out gift boxes to people who can afford to get the products in the gift boxes so they continue to tell everyone on YouTube what they want people to hear. Fixed it for you.

I do wonder if those AirPods Max have usb c?
Bro this was exactly my feeling yesterday watching the Tyson Fury fight broadcast from Saudi Arabia. I forget the exact details, but one of the official commentators was talking about how some of the princes were gifting million dollar cars, $100,000 watches, etc to... celebrities from all over the world that they invited to the event. It felt really cringe. Basically instead of really building up an organic organization and audience, they just used massive amounts of oil loot to buy out people and to buy eyeballs for their event. It made it feel like a Roman empire era event and spectacle. Made all the celebs and performers at the event appear to me as prostitutes. Like these people would never be here if they weren't ready to sell themselves off at the drop of a hat. It's a bad look.

Saying anything positive doesn't make it an ad. Saying only positive things and skating over the negatives makes it an ad. If you review a good product, being fair and balanced means saying mostly positive things.
Nah, even in the US it is legally considered a sponsorship and the dude can get in trouble if he doesn't mark anything he ever says about the products as a sponsored post. Even if he does a video in 4 years from now about how the headphones don't hold up in 2027... its a sponsored video according to US law. And rightfully so.

Social media influencers produce no value whatsoever.
Neither do advertisers, a multibillion dollar industry.

I can’t be mad about a generation that is just filling the roles this type of consumer economy has created. They didn’t build this nonsense, just took the opportunities it created.

To be clear here, you're saying Marquees Brownlee produces nothing of value? Value to who? To you? Does your estimation of value apply universally to everyone everywhere? Or only to you?
Dude is not even worth the time. He sees the world revolving around him. He has no practical tools to evaluate what can be valuable. His mind is set in his ways and his world. It is glaringly obvious to anyone who can see two feet in front of their own nose, that MKBHD is a high quality production, that not only provides valuable consumer information, but can also be seen as film making and art. He is one of the few reviewers that can actually give you a glimpse of how a product would fit into someone's life in the real world. He singlehandedly ushered in the second wave of the video tech review. Before he came on the scene, most channels, even those run by million dollar media companies, were just some dude standing on scene reading a spec checklist. You had no way of telling what kind of experience you would actually get when you held the product in your own hands.

That is very true, and after all, we do have choices, still

Hmmm, these kind of gimmicks suggest Apple isn’t particularly confident in their upcoming products and needs to gin-up some astroturfed support.

Firstly, I’m not a fan of influencers, but…remember they didn’t ask Apple to send them anything.
This is entirely on Apple.

Secondly, this is not really anything new. It’s just a different medium (YouTube).
Back in the day, print journalists received Apple gear, some had to be sent back, some they could keep.

You could argue, Apple is simply doing social media. But this one is somewhat strange. AirPod Max for a Mac related launch seems a bit disconnected. Unless tomorrow will be about gaming with spacial audio.

I guess we’ll see on Monday.

Lamarr seems like a really nice guy but seriously the guy gets so much free crap from so many companies and makes so much money from youtube from him opening up electronics boxes.

Seems all that hard work to get through school and get a career was the wrong choice in life I made.

This in no way says any of that.

The hot takes on MacRumors continue. This type of activity has been part of marketing as long as marketing has existed.
This in every way says it is a gimmick.

The rage replies on MacRumors continue. Apple has led with products and given Apple swag to folks who attend Apple events for as long as Apple has existed.

Why the heck are people focused on dumping on YouTube influencers, instead of on speculating about what the fact that they send out APMs with a note about how "spatial" they are?

First of all, it costs them virtually nothing to send out 100 pair of APMs to get a little bit of free advertising, especially since they need to clear that channel of existing models before the new version comes out.

Second, the Prime Time scheduling of this announcement and the fact that they are sending out hints about Spatial Audio, I'm wondering if they aren't announcing some new service or expansion of an existing service. New Macs alone wouldn't justify a focus on Spatial Audio, since existing Macs already support pairing with APMs and, thus, Spatial Audio.

I guess we will have to wait 1 day 5 hours and 10 minutes to see, won't we?
