Apple will shock everyone and introduce iPads and MacBook Pros in unapologetic plastic (AKA lacquered polycarbonate) with micro-fiber silicone covers with viewports.

The Mac Pro will not have its own cover since a Pro Cozy would wreck the cooling.

Or not.

The media, public, etc.

I get that. What you seem to not get is that this is basic marcomm (marketing communications). Keep the message simple and focused. Plus this is consumer time. This is very likely only or primarily an iPad event.

I get it plenty. I've also seen plenty of Apple events that have the primary focus and then the secondary focus.

The main event will be the iPad/Consumer. The secondary will be the Pro.

There isn't much to update on the iPad/Mini at this event. Everything on them has already been covered at the iPhone event last month. The only true new thing are the covers. Everything else is a part already on the iPhone that has been explained in depth. Fingerprint, Camera, M7, A7, etc.

And I'm suggesting the primary will be iPad.

And you know this how?

Even if what you assume is true, that still doesn't mean Apple wouldn't devote an entire event to refreshing iPads. They are masters at getting lots of free publicity for even modest things. Going into the holiday shopping season they want everyone talking about new iPads and new iPhones.

Random thought, but do the people who set up these apple events (presumably non-apple employees who work for the Yerba Buena Center) know what's going to be announced? Or the people who work at the printers who print billboard ads, etc?

Obviously anyone who has early access prob signs tons of NDAs but I'm always curious how many people know what the final product looks like before the official announcement (Foxconn employees at the very least).

And I agree. The primary will be the iPad. But again, there will be a secondary.

I know this how because the iPad follows the iPhone tech roadmap. It always has.

And MacPros and MacBook Pros are holiday gifts for Prosumers.

Apple is not going to do another media event from here on out through the holidays. So it's logical that the Pro items (MP and MBP) are announced here.

When next week comes around, you can come back and go "you were right...my bad". ;)

Six things I think will NOT happen:

• Apple introduces matte, antiglare display Retina MacBook Pros.

• Apple introduces matte 30" Cinema 4K displays driven by Thunderbolt 2

• Apple introduces a 12" or 14" iPad

• Apple announces Mac Pro with starting prrice under $2000

• Apple drastically redsesigns MacBook Pros with different color/material...they will stick to unibody aluminum construction.

• Apple will continue producing the Classic MacBook Pro (I think they are discontinuing the Classic MacBook Pro and going Retina-only from here on out)

EDIT: You must realize, these are all things I would like to see from Apple...Matte displays, keeping the Classic MacBook Pro lineup, and a MacBook Pro chassis redesign. All of which I think are NOT going to happen...

Yes, I know this too. What I'm suggesting is that you (or I) know nothing about what other iPad product enhancements Apple has planned.

You're reaching. LOL

Anyway. I guess we expect different things from this event.

That's not called logic, it's called wishful thinking.

Back at ya!

iPad mini vs iPad (large size)

I have been using regular iPad for last few years but I think iPad mini will suit me better (lighter, easy to hold etc).

Anyone transitioned from large iPad to mini has any words of advice?

I know I will lose the screen real estate but I think iPad mini is really easy to handle and not cause any pain to my wrists.

I would definitely buy a new iPad right away if it had TouchID and some form of user accounts. I've got a 5 year old and it is a pain to turn on the restrictions each time he uses it, or worse I forget and he finds it and deletes a load of photos.

I just keep picking up my mini and holding my finger on the home screen while I stare at the screen which says Slide to unlock. Takes me a few seconds to realize its not going to. lol

I was wondering when they were gonna do this. They really wait till the last minute!

I'm excited for the event.

I was thinking the same thing, hopefully the new iPad has everything iWant. 2 gigs of memory, 64 bit processor and touch Id with a better camera. I'll give them my money.

And my unconfirmed countdown is now confirmed.

(a) I wonder if they'll stream this one.

(b) My money is on new iPad Mini and new full-sized iPad. Mostly incremental improvements: faster processor, shell improvements, TouchID, camera bump, etc. iPad Mini with Retina I'm less sure of, but signs point to yes. A Mac mention, but most of the time on iPad stuff.

a) Stream = No they won't stream. Apple's on the no-stream bandwagon as of lately.

b) Retina Mini = Yes. Apple will announce the Retina Mini on Monday. I am 90% sure of this.

  • OSX Mavericks (for my current Mac) - ~$20
  • iPad Mini 2 (32GB, Wi-Fi) - $430 + tax
  • Haswell MacBook Pro w/ Retina Display (i7, 256GB) - $1900 + tax
  • Thunderbolt Display (refreshed) - $1000 + tax
  • Total = $3350 + tax
I need a job :(

Just buy it on Amazon. That'll save the "+ tax" part... ;)

LOL... less than one month with my 5S and do the same thing with my iPad 4th gen. We adjust so quickly to changes that are implemented well. It makes putting a pass code in seems so archaic.

This event will be interesting. Lots of crowing about the new iPhones, followed by Mavericks I would expect, then the iPad and Mac news.

I am really interested in seeing the retina Mini at this event but I am not getting my hopes up. I still find the mini harder to type on than the full size iPad and the iPhone.
