they will have to charge alacarte. They don’t have the content library to do a subscription service.

and these shows cost too much money ti give away

But they will have to do something to get people hooked... Netflix has an entire library of licensed and original content, and so does Hulu. Disney has Fox, Marvel, and all the kids movies we grew up with... and Apple comes out with this? I would only watch this for free, while doing laundry or cooking because I know I can turn my head away and don't miss much.

At the end of the day, this looks very polished and slick. It looks well written. It has great actors. Whether the theme, topic, politics, or genre are for you is irrelevant, as there will be many other people who this does appeal to. There are many sci-fi shows slated to release on Apple TV+ as well, including Amazing Stories, Moon, etc. No reason to auto-hate Apple TV+

What do you mean ala cart? None of these services are ala cart. My guess is Apple will have to price it low enough to get people to check it out. And the price will probably go up over time if successful.

My guess is they’ll start out matching Disney. The need to get people watching the shows and building up a reputation as a quality service. Whether this show will be good or not remains to be seen but the trailer looked well produced. I’m willing to give it a chance.

And people also have different "channels" to purchase. Since that is Apple's goal, perhaps they should focus on a genre. Keep it simple. Sci-fi seems to fit best and oh look, it's usually among the top watched. Think different?
I love this trapped-in-the-early-'90s line of logic.

"Apple is a computer company -> Computers are for geeks -> Geeks like sci-fi -> Apple should focus on sci-fi."

It's so, so sad that this what Apple has become. Instead of finally providing an Apple TV subscription that people wanted, they invent out of thin air around new content that no one wants. Awesome.

Yes they do, it's called the plethora of media available on the iTunes Store. But they've utterly failed to properly negotiate a subscription to that content (after at least 5+ years of trying).

Their turning to originals is evidence that they've failed and given up trying, which is a gigantic loss for customers.

Why do people think the stuff on Netflix is so great? This new show they’re promoting looks like hot garbage.

Indeed, Netflix has blown all of its cash on garbage, and now can't even stay afloat without raising prices every quarter. I've now canceled my sub on the news of The Office, Friends, and other content being removed at the same time as raising my price for the second time in one year. They're out of their minds and deserve to take a huge hit.

Oh that’s disappointing. Thought there might be some promise in this show as I like aniston. But I’m just not interested in the lives of vacuous tabloid fodder morning show tv presenter personalities whether in real life or dramatised.

who the heck is in charge of commissioning at Apple ? They are going to be at risk of damaging their brand. Come on Apple get it together.
Lol yeah, I could really see how getting phenomenal, popular actors together for a high budget show could really damage a streaming service.

I don't live it in the USA but are people really interested in that kind of series (from Apple)?

I'd hope they would make a killer show like GOT or Stranger Things, something that people can easily understand and watch. I thought that was the point of Apple's streaming service - to compete with Netflix, Hulu, HBO etc.

Apple is a “Safe” company always have been. I think the people that should be applauded most times are apples marketing and legal teams lol. I would be shocked if any Apple produce show is not “safe”

You know they are doing lot more shows and movies too. This is just an example of what is coming. If it’s not for you, it’s ok. End of they day you are only one person. There’s still like billion potential users and i’m sure some of them find this show good fit for them.

I think this trailer is good example to show the quality of upcoming shows and movies.

You also mentioned Netflix, i think Netflix is mostly very crap and i would never pay anything for it.

Apple is going to burn a lot of money. Lets see what this service will offer.

This looks like a show for adults. Those shows you mention are good but they are simply TV's answer to superhero movies which is not the question most adult viewers are asking.

So the first thing Apples does in the post-TV-era is to create a show about an outdated TV-genre, which rather caters to the generation X than to millenials, who didn't even grow up with a TV?
To me, it looks like a #metoo show about TV celebrities which is exactly what current social media and news cycles are all fixated upon.

Most insightful thing I've read on MR forums in a long time.

Apple Music: $9.99
Apple News+: $9.99
Apple TV+: $19.99

Bundle price: $34.99

That's my bet. TV shows are inherently pricier to make, and if Apple is getting away (sort of) with $1k+ phones and $300 "smart" speakers, I bet they stretch the limits of reality with a $19.99 video subscription service. It'll be touted as all 4K HDR, made with organic, grass-fed celebrities, and integrates with the TV app, etc...

Reminds me of Anchorman. Except without the screenplay originality, witty dialogue, slapstick comedy etc. I'm also fairly certain as a "drama", it's been done several times before but can't remember the name(s) off the top of my head.

Talking of Anchorman, whilst some of his straight acting roles are superb (The Big Short), Steve Carrell looks completely wasted here, with Aniston clearly pegged in this trailer as the "star". Ugh.

I think it depends on how many shows are available for AppleTV+'s premiere. If it's only the Morning Show, they cannot charge anything. But if they have at least 10 shows premiering at once, they could charge $14.99 monthly.
