Yes they do, it's called the plethora of media available on the iTunes Store. But they've utterly failed to properly negotiate a subscription to that content (after at least 5+ years of trying).

Their turning to originals is evidence that they've failed and given up trying, which is a gigantic loss for customers.

Indeed, Netflix has blown all of its cash on garbage, and now can't even stay afloat without raising prices every quarter. I've now canceled my sub on the news of The Office, Friends, and other content being removed at the same time as raising my price for the second time in one year. They're out of their minds and deserve to take a huge hit.
If Netflix loses The West Wing I may end up dropping it. I’m guessing they will once WB announces their own service.

It's so, so sad that this what Apple has become. Instead of finally providing an Apple TV subscription that people wanted, they invent out of thin air around new content that no one wants. Awesome.
What “Apple TV subscription that everyone wanted” are you referring to?

Zero interest in Apple TV+, Apple News, or Apple Arcade. Apple's "services" leave so much to be desired. Most of their services come off as vapid money-grabs.

Anchorman the sequel?

I don't live it in the USA but are people really interested in that kind of series (from Apple)?

I'd hope they would make a killer show like GOT or Stranger Things, something that people can easily understand and watch. I thought that was the point of Apple's streaming service - to compete with Netflix, Hulu, HBO etc.
Relative to the political situation here in the US the last several years, where anchors like Matt Lauer were fired (sexual harassment), as well as Roger Ailes (Fox News) before he died, this show looks to be dealing with the same stuff. Several sitcoms came out in the '70s of similar nature, and they dealt with big topics of the 60s like the Vietnam War, civil rights, women's rights, etc. I'm kind of surprised Apple is putting something like this out there - Tim Cook influence, most likely.

So is this considered a comedy?
Welcome to the modern day comedy. I remember reading a review for a new Brit comedy in the Guardian a few years back and the critic commented that it was good this "comedy" didn't have laugh out loud funny moments in it as that allowed the characters to develop and have depth and emotion.... WTH!?!? That's not a comedy, that's a drama...

Comedy shows and movies are on life support.

And we all know who is responsible for this...

Fascinating to me how this started based on Brian Stelter’s book (fascinating read if you’re into media, by the way) detailing Ann Curry’s ouster from Today but seems to have since pivoted to a story based more on accusations against Matt Lauer and/or Charlie Rose. Wonder how much of the former is still present.

Oh that’s disappointing. Thought there might be some promise in this show as I like aniston. But I’m just not interested in the lives of vacuous tabloid fodder morning show tv presenter personalities whether in real life or dramatised.
Eh, if Netflix had asked if anyone wanted a show about a senator, or a women's prison, they wouldn't have gotten overwhelmingly positive feedback, but those went on to be pretty compelling TV. It all depends on the writing and acting, and that's hard to judge until after the first few episodes.

Ahhh..what an endearing proposition. A movie show-casing two traditional media personalities, and their surrounding drama -- which turns, essentially, into a cat fight.

Winning!

[Should Ms. Aniston be doing hair-care commercials, instead -- displaying what is her most precious commodity?]

Thinking there's a typo there. It should be "The Mourning" show, because that's what Apple will be doing when no one pays to watch that bomb.

I was kind of hoping this show would be similar to HBO's "The News Room", but this looks too dramatized to be so -- maybe I'm wrong and it will turn into a show loosely based on today's current events once the characters are more developed.

not sure this type of melodrama "a TV show about a TV show" will gather much following nor success.
Traditionally, there’s no subject the entertainment business loves more than itself. There’s a sort of presumption within it, that because 100% of the people watching it are watching it, that 100% of everyone is watching it and wants to be in it and cares about every detail of it. It’s more than a little narcissistic. Now excuse me while I listen to any podcast or late night show or talk show, where the guest of honor is not a scientist or philosopher or innovator, but yet another actor, talking about... acting. Maybe they’ll get nominated for an Emmy or a Grammy or an Oscar! I guess we’ll find out when all these people get together and give themselves awards and televise it, expecting us all to tune in and watch, as one the most important nights of the year we all must be waiting for. Gag.

Man I’m a humorless jerk before I get my coffee.

Hope Apple TV+ is getting better than Netflix and HBO for Apple users
Similar to Apple Music over Spotify, and iCloud drive over Dropbox and OneDrive

If this, if that, it looks, it seems...

Guys: let's wait the Apple TV+ starts and then everybody will decide if it's worth or not. Some will appreciate, others not. It's fine – everyone has different tastes.

Personally I'm tired of all that guns, rifles, blood, killers, murders, the-best-hero-and-everything-else-is-a-loser etc. which fill the average Movie/Show productions lately. It seems that it's not possible to do a storytelling without the above mentioned components. Technically very well done productions – quite empty stories, though.

Just look at the posters/thumbnails of any video streaming service: a sequence of angry faced guys, pointing guns, dark scenes, dead or almost dead bodies... Fear, suffer, pain, danger...

What the hell. :) To some extent, it's even tragicomical, if you're sober enough to detach emotively for a second.

Yet, a lot of people seems to like this kind of productions. Otherwise they wouldn't be produced in such quantities. What can I do? Nothing, just complain here, like others... ;)

I know, the evergreen, universal, timeless relationship between good and bad. The Apple TV+ series will surely include some drama. Otherwise it'd be boring.

The worldwide literature/culture is full of bad vs good stuff since the dawn of mankind – still, I think the show business is exaggerated, almost perverse in this regard.

because that's what Apple will be doing when no one pays to watch that bomb.

Just like no-one will pay for Apple music? :) with size of their userbase they only need fraction of their users (and they will get them) and it will be popular service.

I think it depends on how many shows are available for AppleTV+'s premiere. If it's only the Morning Show, they cannot charge anything. But if they have at least 10 shows premiering at once, they could charge $14.99 monthly.

A logical person would agree with you. But this is Apple. They will throw out words like "premium service" and "only Apple can ____" to justify the high margin. Their objective is to drive the services revenue as a major component of overall income, and even with only ~10 shows at the premier, they can tout that each show is of the quality of any HBO production.

In fact, that's likely where they're aiming: only the highest quality production and acting talent. Netflix and Amazon have a lot of great shows, but the overwhelming majority of the content come from B movies and low grade shows that you'd almost think were sourced from Youtube.

The best part is that we get to read reviews by people acting as if they have already seen something they'll never admit to watching when it's available.

What a great thread.

It will definitely be $9.99. Any less and Apple will lose money, which would go against their current goal of increasing revenue from services. Any more and nobody would subscribe. Heck at $9.99 I won’t subscribe, I’m planning to get Disney+ and already pay for Netflix.

Netflix already has done tons of original shows so they can do whatever they want and see what ends of being popular or not. This is Apple's first show and says more about what Apple feels is important and they are choosing to swing with the Me Too pendulum.

Netflix's first original content five years ago was Lilyhammer, a creative comedy spoof of The Sopranos.
