I use multi-port usb chargers or converted wall plugs in just about every scenario I’m in. I doubt other people are as “sophisticated” but definitely agree it’s not needed (for me). Maybe make it optional for people that want it with no cost difference?

Where are people getting these extra power adapters? Are they not selling their old Apple devices? Or are they not including the adapters when they sell them? When I no longer use an Apple device, I sell it with everything that came with it. I don't have any extra adapters laying around.

Update:
I just saw Tanax had already made this point. I'm also not comfortable using free swag adapters or the ones from a dollar store.

Granted, it'll be nice as devices migrate to USBC and we shift in that direction over time, but it's a stretch to suggest folks will be able to standardize on cabling anytime soon.
The more I thought about my earlier response, the more confused I was about what I was replying to, I went back to the first post I saw from you, and I'm still confused. Do you agree or disagree with cables being shipped in the box?

The apple watch chargers are at least $30 these days.

You were ready to drop over $400 and changed your mind because a 5W power adapter that you probably already have, and if you don't, can buy for $5, isn't included? Or for some other, more rational reason?

The beauty of the thing is that you can go buy a nice two-port charger that is far more convenient. And if it was something you were going to buy regardless because you want a more versatile or faster charger, now you don't have the waste of an unneeded one lying around.

Why do you have to order one? You can use any brick you already have in your house, you could plug it into 99% of laptops or desktops and charge from there, you could buy one in any store, literally almost any grocery or convenience store has them. And you can buy one, and use it for life. Literally I have not had a brick die on me yet, as long as I can replace the cable.

Well, I only have 1 Apple higher power USB-C adapter that came with my iphone Pro so all my previous adapters are already out of date, not as functional and absolete. I have since ordered a couple more 3rd party ones and absolutely would love more new higher power USB-C bricks with my next iphone and/or ipad.

I want and need more.

I don’t recall replying to you, and not where I can easily search to find out what you’re referring to.

if the question is whether devices should ship with a cable in the box, I’d say it depends on a variety of factors.

The charging adapter is unique in that it’s included in both the Watch box and iPhone box. Including it on one box or the other when it can be used to charge both devices is a great way to cut down on waste.

So what happens when the new iPhones don’t come with a charger either (since it’s only reasonable this will happen next)? I get your argument, but there are still new customers. ”Hi grandma, here’s a brand new Apple Watch. You have to buy a separate charger though. Or share the with your iPhone 11 or older charger.”

Doesn’t make sense.

Don’t buy your grandma an Apple Watch without spending an extra ten bucks on a wall adapter then. Y’all are acting like those people in an infomercial making everything seem so complicated and hopeless.

I like the creative reason they gave for not including a power adapter. I agree, and I decided to not buy the watch so that they can produce less for even better environment.

I laughed my a** off when they spun it as an environmental move by not including the charger. Ok then Apple, lower the price of the watch by $20-30 or give the option to buy it at $400 with the charger included. You know because this is all about the environment and reducing waste rather then a multi trillion dollar company trying to figure out any to increase profits...

If the iPad has a 20w charger included in the box, there’s still hope for the iPhone.
I have like 20 of the 5W cube chargers, and two of the 20W, and the 20W is the only charger I've ever had that broke. used it like three times and it just stopped working. not promising going forward.

Wrong. Apple is all about the experience. I remember when they included a dock and a FireWire plus USB cable with your iPod purchase. Now? They don’t even include a charger. What next? Sell MacBooks without chargers? Why not? If you’re spending $2k on a computer, what’s another $100 to charge it? C’mon, get real.

I really think they cut the charger out of the equation because an iPhone is required to set the watch up in the first place. As for grandma, that’s interesting and you’d either give her a spare or buy a new one entirely.

Does the new watch come with a USB C Magnetic Charging cable (because there is one of those shown as „New“ in the accessories page)? I have quite a few USB A 5W bricks, but zero USB C ones.

That‘s what annoys me most about them leaving the power adapters out of the box. They ship their crap with 5W USB A adapters for ages even when every other company switched to higher watt ones (and to USB C) and then when they ship one or two generation of products with higher-capacity power adapters (and no one had time to adapt) they leave them out altogether, but ship a new cable that doesn't fit in all those millions of 5W USB A power adapters we've been hoarding apparently.

... whilst increasing the price of their damn products.

So funny how people want an Apple Watch but still living in the past century with no USB outlets in their homes. All other arguments I have read are of course complete nonsense. I mean how can you be sure about Apple making more profit without knowing how latest changes add up? They could as well have added features that otherwise wouldn't have been implemented if they'd still deliver chargers with every watch. You can't tell - that's the point. Apple doesn't have to find excuses to raise their margin in the first place. They would simply raise the price. End of story. How can you even think they would try to hide increasing prices? Doesn't make sense at all.

Apple's statement of environmental concern is a horse****.
If they really do care about our environment, then make their product more repairable, and stop giving us fragile cables that easily breaks. Oh yeah and you better combine lightning and USB-C. Why let consumers handle two types of cables wasting resources?

It's always more margin.

So what will be the argument when Apple cuts the charger from the new iPhones?

I doubt they will. If they do, I’m not sure, and I can’t support that decision.

They way they announced the decision to drop it from the Watch retail box made it seem it was the only product they had in mind.

The idea of not shipping a charger with iPhone was originally a rumor. Maybe they got it wrong and it really was in reference to Apple Watch?

Not really. Having a Watch implies you have an iPhone (because you have to in order to activate it), so you already have one power adapter. The fact that there’s a joke about people collecting the adapters and having 6 on hand throughout the years proves it. Hell, I have nearly ten and my partner has another 4 or 5 lying around. They should have some kind of donation bin actually. 🤣

Apple has other ways of reducing product cost as well like metals, displays, batteries, adhesives, etc.
