Assuming the box will be smaller now? The previous ones had so much free space it was ridiculous.
If your device has a standard port (USB-C, previously micro USB), you can leave out the cable. Less so if your device requires a special connector (as the Apple Watch does). Apple considers Lightning a standard port, if I remember correctly, Airpods come without cable.
I think it’s illegal to buy them in most countries 🤷♂️😂Do you own children?
Companies now are under significant pressure from consumers and governments to do more from the environment. I’m glad to see things going in a positive direction😅

Samsung reportedly won’t include chargers with some phones starting next year
Apple is also rumored to exclude chargers from phone boxes.www.theverge.com
The problem is people who are legitimately confused about something get mixed up with those just wanting to complain or dislike Apple. From my experience Windows tech gurus are a bit harsher when it comes to stuff like this. Thanks for a simple explanation. The article should outline or highlight that to avoid confusion or prompting someone to inquire.
Yet anyone who dares asks a simple question on here gets berated for not being a complete tech guru.
They really need to make it USB C across the board.lol screw the environment, yet they won't put USB-C in all their devices so we have to have multiple cords to charge each device. that's a bs excuse.
it's kinda like the argument of "environmental waste", but every other device uses usb-c except the iPhone.
didn't realize apple made all those other products, you learn something new everyday!Looking around my desk I see...
kindle - micro-B
Plantronics PLT headset - micro-B
Airpods (gen1) - lightning
iphone XS - lightning
olympus TG5 camera - micro-B
ipad mini - lightning
Anker Qi charging stand - micro-B
macbook pro - USBC
Zephyr Fire 300 running flashlight - mini-B
Aftershokz Aeropex headphones - proprietary cable to USB-A
Yep, every other device uses usb-c except the iPhone.
Honestly, I’m fine with it. If you have a Watch it implies you have an iPhone...which includes an adapter.
then apple just needs to scrap all cables and adapters from every device they sell and from their website. i love that the same people that say this is okay are complaining about "apple one" prices. truly funnyI have seven compatible power adaptors in my drawer, doing nothing but taking up space for the most part. At home, everything charges off my computer via USB (or now my new USB hub), and on the road I have one of the seven adaptors that I take (which is compatible with the Apple travel kit). I could throw the rest away tomorrow and wouldn't notice the difference...and that's really Apple's point.
These things are ubiquitous after the last 10 years, all kinds of small electronics are using this stuff, including the pet waterer and feeder I bought recently...they came with USB power adaptors and a USB cable (they aren't included in the seven, they are out in the garage). Apple doesn't need to make these anymore, they are a commodity that you can borrow from someone or buy for a few bucks...you can buy six for $13 on Amazon right now.
So, really, complaining about this, or declaring you won't buy Apple products that come without a 5W USB power adaptor, is pretty silly.
Good. I love the smell of Apple profits in the morning. Makes my retirement portfolio keep growing. Allows me to keep buying new Apple products with those stock gains. It’s called, “fiduciary responsibility” and is required of all publicly traded companies.
you're charging them wrong, bro.And if you want to charge both your watch and your phone overnight which I do??
didn't realize apple made all those other products, you learn something new everyday!
Yes, but why does that matter?Do you own children?
why would it take years?Even within the Apple ecosystem not all devices use USBC.
AppleTV4K remote - lightning
Airpods - lightning
ipad mini - lightning
Apple Magic Keyboard - lightning
Apple Magic Trackpad - lightning
and even if Apple moved everything over tomorrow, it'd still take years for folks to migrate -- even if they bought nothing but Apple products.
FWIW, it's a good idea to begin installing these electrical outlets (vouched for by Wirecutter just last week) around your house or apartment. You don't need them for every outlet, but getting one for your bedroom and living room will make life much easier and future proof.
For 1.5x the price of an Apple 18W adapter ($29), you can add a 2-port 30W USB-C outlet ($44). Why not?

Thats a good point. I'd rather buy a third party no name cable than a no name chinese usb adapterSome iPhones have the USB-C-Lightning cable. High-end ones, the ones that people have to spend a grand on, who'll have no problem buying a $30 power adapter if they don't have one.
BUT you can use any Lightning cable with Lightning iPhones, so if you really were so left out with the USB-C cable, you can always buy a Lightning USB-A cable, which are like $5 and available pretty much everywhere, I see them in supermarkets, pharmacies, etc.
now that's pretty funny. we are talking about apple cutting corners to make them "richer", to then people here aren't rich enough to upgrade everything to usb-c but are okay with apple's power play move. now that is classic.Perhaps you're rich enough to run out and replace all that stuff the day USBC socketed versions hit the market, but most of us aren't. We'll replace stuff on a slower basis, as we need to, and the listed items all have years of useful life remaining.
why even include a cable then?
Agreed. Either they weren't brave enough to withstand the combined force of dual grievances from MacRumors Complainer-Warriors, or maybe they want to feed the publicity/social media frenzy twice by removing them at separate times. We're over 200 posts deep and that's just one thread in one forum.I am actually a bit annoyed by this - why dont they get rid of the charging cable as well? I already have three or four charging cables so dont need another one when I upgrade the Watch.
I might've agreed with you a couple years ago, but I'm at about 3–6 years between upgrades and I'm almost completely on USB-C. I went from 2012 MBP to 2018 MBP, and a year later a 2014 iPad to 2018 iPad Pro (all four refurbished). My camera is USB-C, the Samsung SSD I bought five (?) years ago is USB-C. The writing was on the wall in 2015 when the MacBook was released with a single USB-C port.Perhaps you're rich enough to run out and replace all that stuff the day USBC socketed versions hit the market, but most of us aren't. We'll replace stuff on a slower basis, as we need to, and the listed items all have years of useful life remaining.
