Would you expect to buy a PS5 without a power cable because "everyone has a 2pin power cable"?

Or a Laptop without a usb charger "because we have loads of them around the house"?

No the device is dependent on the charger to function, so it should come included...ESPECIALLY when that device is a high-end price compared to the rest of the market.
a) There is a bit of a difference between a device that needs to be plugged in to work (PS5) or is used mostly plugged in by most people (laptop) and one that needs a one-hour charge per day.
b) Fitnesstrackers, Bluetooth headphones, GoPros all have come without chargers for many years precisely because they are not quite the same as the devices mentioned in point (a).

Why not just buy the bands separately? Or a cable separately? Why not just sell just the actual watch? if you can’t use it every day out of the box and you paid hundreds of dollars for it, what’s the point?
The charging adapter is unique in that it’s included in both the Watch box and iPhone box. Including it on one box or the other when it can be used to charge both devices is a great way to cut down on waste.

I don't mind about the missing charger for the new Apple Watch but it's probably disappointing to a lot of people.

Definitely upgrading from a Series 4 just because of the O2 sensor. Will not pre-order though.

sure, but what if you want to charge both things at the same time? many places where people charge their phone, it's not easily accessible to access the charging block as it may be plug in behind furniture etc. So now we have to unplug and plug it back in every time we want to charge a phone or a watch? it wouldn't bother me if they actually reduced the cost of the device to make up for it...then if you really need one you go buy the adapter and use it.

So you take it out of the box and you can charge it OR you need something else to do it?
Serious question...you can’t plug it into any usb on a computer? I am shocked you really believe the adapter is so pivotal. It comes with the cord.

Fine. Screw the environment then. I saw this as an easy way to cut down on waste as most people have a ton of these things lying around but never mind. Either way, Apple is moving forward with the idea.

lol screw the environment, yet they won't put USB-C in all their devices so we have to have multiple cords to charge each device. that's a bs excuse.

I don't get it. Where do you folks get extra adapters?? Don't you include them when you sell/pass the watches/phones/etc to someone else?!

Honestly don't get it. I've had A LOT of adapters over the course of my life.. but alas, I have none now because I include them when I sell the gadges like normal people would. So now I actually have to go buy a separate thing to charge my watch? I don't want 3rd party adapters, I want the Apple one. And you bet your ass they will charge (heh) you for getting it separately!

“Just starting to realize that we have entered an absurd phase of human development...”? Human beings have been in an absurd phase of development since Adam and Eve got booted from the Garden. You, me and all these forum members are no different, only different in degrees and weak/blind spots. This is the human race in a nutshell..bam! Trust me, the first wheel sold did not include the axle. The first fire sold, did not include wood and the first woolly mammoth killed did not come with butchering instructions.

You’re simply getting older when you realize that cycles repeat endlessly. Welcome to reality. History teaches us, but what goes around, comes around. Welcome to the club.

Long story, short..if you cannot afford a charger for your shiny new Apple Watch, should you be buying that shiny new Apple Watch?

You certainly fit the description if you find it ok to HAVE to buy something in order to get what you JUST BOUGHT to work. It's not about being able to afford it.

SO the answer is no?

The watches became cheaper (at least in the Netherlands) and 80% of Apple Watch buyers probably already have a charger so I really do not see the problem.

But you, like everyone else complaining, most likely have a dozen chargers already.
Your assumption that everyone has USB C charger is wrong and why the hell I should spend extra money for it? I gave a simple solution - if you customer does not need a charger than it can deselect this option from basket with information that $29 will go for saving koalas or rainforest or sharks. If Apple want to be really eco then firstly should support right to repair because replacing SMD capacitor or resistor is always more effective than manufacturing a new logic boards. Secondly they should to organise an action to stop selling tones of trash to Africa and low cost countries (like Romania, Poland, India, Ukraine etc).

exactly! i can't imagine selling my old iphone to someone and saying oh it doesn't come with a charge go buy a cheap one at the grocery store if you want one. thanks!

I get that, but they not going to reduce each watch by $2.
that's exactly my point. it's a money play for them. not environmental...that's an excuse.

iphone doesn't even have usb-c yet...so how is that supposed to work? lol

I never use their 5w power blocks always bought my own (Anker) even their cables (no thanks)!.. I do not see an issue with not shipping without power block.

Based on today presentation there is a chance that iPhone 12 will get USB C port.
if it was truly about environmental waste, then yes, the iPhone should get USB C so we can use the one charger for all of our devices. but that won't happen

In times past, it was best to give the adapter with the device since everyone had their own power plug and you couldn't reuse one with another. Like going from a Nokia to a Motorola phone, for example, needed a different supply. However, this era is now filled with standard USB power bricks for every gadget out there. You have any device made in the last 15 years and it has USB it works with the cable they include with this watch. You can plug into computers for charging, cars, airplanes, etc. And if worst comes to worst, you don't have a power brick, well you can pay like $5 for one that doesn't have to be Apple, or if you want Apple get the Apple one and keep it for life! It's yours now! These things last forever! Seriously I haven't had a USB brick go bad, so long as I can replace the cable (cables fray and need to be replaced but the bricks haven't gone bad yet).

At first I read this as there would be no charging cable at all in the box. That seemed absolutely insane to me. But, now that I see it's just the adapter, I don't see an issue. It may just be us, but at this point, we can't give those things away. We've also installed several outlets that have USB plugs right in them. There's really no need for the adapter any more.

I would be fine with Apple doing this if they had included an option for people without an adapter to order one either for free or for a heavily discounted price at the point of purchase - that way you cover all bases of not needing to manufacture and potentially waste product and ensure that no customers are left buying crappy, cheap chargers which will break/catch fire.

Instead asking to fork out an additional £19 is just a kick in the teeth and shows blatant profiteering.
