FWIW, it's a good idea to begin installing these electrical outlets (vouched for by Wirecutter just last week) around your house or apartment. You don't need them for every outlet, but getting one for your bedroom and living room will make life much easier and future proof.

For 1.5x the price of an Apple 18W adapter ($29), you can add a 2-port 30W USB-C outlet ($44). Why not?

Well, when I sell my old car, the buyer doesn't seem happy if I want to take off the wheels. When I sell an old iPhone, the buyer doesn't seem happy if I don't want to include a power adapter.

I guess this is yet another way for Apple to attack the second hand market.

I'm not 100% sure, but doesn't Apple themselves give you less credit on a phone trade in without the power adapter? The third parties seem to, for good reason.

I have never included a cable or charger when I've sold a used iPhone. Most trade-in services also don't require a cable or adapter to be included. You also don't get any more or any less for your trade in whether you include a cable and adapter or not. Conclusion: cables and adapters are essentially worthless on the 2nd hand market.

i have a nice selection of iPad chargers laying around the house that can be used for charging a watch never mind the Anker USB A/C charger I currently use for my IPP and watch. Motorola have been doing this for years, it’s about time the rest of the industry caught up.
Argument works for now as the 5 watt Apple chargers are ubiquitous along with many home now having built in USB A chargers in the wall. The wailing will be much worse with the iPhone 12 which will need USB C chargers of the 18/20 watt variety. People usually won't have boxes of those.

Just like the air. I’m sure iPhone pros will have the charger cause it’s going to be a 20w. But the regular iPhone 12 and lower won’t.

I wonder how many people will get one for Christmas and then won't be able to use it as they will get a message "must be charged at least 50%" and etc lol.

What part of the world do you live in that there's many households without at least a couple extra 5VDC USB chargers sitting in a drawer somewhere?

not to mention that the watch has to pair with *someone's* iphone, and that iphone's gonna have a charger.

I'm ok with no power adapter, besides that o already have multiple, unused, USB-A adapters are found everywhere today, power outlets, powerstripas etc ...
Yes, and Belkin makes a nice selection of charging docks that will charge your watch and phone and the dock provides its own cable for plugging in to an outlet.

I purchased a dock from Anker that also charges your phone and watch (unlike the Belkin dock, you do have to install a watch charging cable which plugs in inside the dock) and I think that dock also provided its own power cable.

if you don’t like that, power bricks (both USB-A and USB-C) are available separately from many companies including: Apple, Anker, Aukey, Belkin, Mophie, etc

Fine if the cable included is USB-A everyone has tons of those and you don't need an extra adapter for an iPhone accessory. Airpods don't come with one either.

Problem is the iPhone comes with a USB-C cable which I have no computers with and no wall adapters for. If I buy an iPhone without a wall adapter today i'm screwed unless I use my old lightning cable. Being said the iPhone 12 might not even have lightning
They sell these at the gas station for $5, i think you'll be fine to be honest.

You were ready to drop over $400 and changed your mind because a 5W power adapter that you probably already have, and if you don't, can buy for $5, isn't included? Or for some other, more rational reason?

No space gray/black stainless steel, the graphite is hideous. Extremely minor upgrades. Apple is complacent now. And on top of it they want me to spend $800 and not include a charger? Sorry, I have my limits

I genuinely can't remember the last time I used a 5V USB-A adapter. I have powerstrias and outlets that have USB ports on them. Even when I travel (oh how I miss traveling) I have a plug bug with dual USB and an Anker brick that has multiple USB ports on it. It would be nice if the price went down for the Watch when they removed the adapter but I never thought that would actually happen.

You have several products in your sig that had USB-A power supplies included. The Watch still has a USB-A Apple Watch cable included. You won't have to buy anything, you just want to whine about something.
Sorry wasn't aware USB-A could charge the watch... headline suggests otherwise or the article should clarify that.

I've been interested in the watch and was finally thinking of getting one.

So are you going to to keep swapping the cable out to charge them? When are you going to charge your iPhone if charging your watch overnight? Both devices need daily charging...
Though with sleep tracking, Watch charging will need to be done while you are awake, leaving the charger available for your phone while you sleep. Did you ever wonder how people charge their fitness trackers that overwhelmingly come without a charger? I actually use the same charger for my phone and my fitness tracker (I charge the latter for maybe 45 minutes with said charger before my sleep starts).

So who is more whiny? the whiny or the one that whines about the whiny?
And more... did you just pay attention to those you deem unworthy of attention?
rofl.
Many people will have to pay EXTRA to have their device running no matter if they can afford it or not (if indeed the case is there's no way to charge it out of the box without 3rd party device). How many will use non apple charges and will be told oops you used a non apple charger sorry we will not fix your watch... Wait... it already happened didn't it?
I'm starting to realize that we entered such an absurd phase of human development that some people genuinely think they are nails and love getting hit with a hammer on every possible occasion.

“Just starting to realize that we have entered an absurd phase of human development...”? Human beings have been in an absurd phase of development since Adam and Eve got booted from the Garden. You, me and all these forum members are no different, only different in degrees and weak/blind spots. This is the human race in a nutshell..bam! Trust me, the first wheel sold did not include the axle. The first fire sold, did not include wood and the first woolly mammoth killed did not come with butchering instructions.

You’re simply getting older when you realize that cycles repeat endlessly. Welcome to reality. History teaches us, but what goes around, comes around. Welcome to the club.

Long story, short..if you cannot afford a charger for your shiny new Apple Watch, should you be buying that shiny new Apple Watch?

Which model do you have now? I definitely wouldn’t upgrade from even a series 4 honestly.

You have a 2019 iMac in your signature, if you really do own that computer it has 4 USB-A ports and 2 Thunderbolt 3 ports which are the same as USB-C. That is enough ports to charge your watch wether it comes with a USB-A cable or USB-C.
Thanks for a simple explanation. The article should outline or highlight that to avoid confusion or prompting someone to inquire.

Yet anyone who dares asks a simple question on here gets berated for not being a complete tech guru.
