That does make this description of the UPDATE seem somewhat misleading. Why would Apple not just describe the update as a security fix, instead of suggesting that the update "blankets your space with a blazing-fast, secure wireless network"? (Yes, I know it later goes on to talk about the Airport Extreme, but that's just a way of building in a little advertisement).

Admittedly, I have not tried to connect with a pre-N router, since I do not have one. Has anyone with a pre-N router tried this update yet?

About AirPort Extreme Update 2007-001
The perfect wireless solution for home, school, and business. As it blankets your space with a blazing-fast, secure wireless network, it opens up a world of possibilities for home entertainment, backups, printing, and more. With the AirPort Extreme Base Station, you and up to 50 of your friends, colleagues, or family members can enjoy a robust wireless network offering up to five times the performance and up to twice the range of networks created with the earlier 802.11g standard.

Anyway, this is hijacking the discussion of the rumored Apple event, so I will defer any further discussion of this to the appropriate thread.

Maybe Steve will give a keynote on the latest $1.99 802.11n enabled patch. My Airport Expreme is scheduled to ship on the 28th of February, the day does look to be correct.
Not all announcements are keynotes. You can't have a keynote if it's the only event, and there's no way anyone would overdramatize such a minor issue with a big media ramp-up and Steve Jobs.

Just because Apple has an event and Jobs shows up does not make it a keynote. A keynote address requires multiple events (as in a conference or symposium) and it requires a central theme or major announcement from which there are derivative events at that same location.

If this is a Steve Jobs appearance, it's a new product, a Leopard/iLife update, or a major change at Apple. I would assume that Apple will make some kind of response to Vista's launch once the Microsoft uproar dies down.

Yea there response was releasing multi-colored ipod shuffles...how embarassing:(

I realize predictions are like a sense of humor: everyone thinks they've got a good one... but here's mine:

On Feb 20, Apple will release speed bumps (including increased base RAM/HDD sizes) for the Mac Mini (1.83 GHz/2.GHz) and iMac (2.0 GHz/2.16 GHz/2.33 GHz) and announce a Leopard release event for mid-April. Buyers of Macs between Feb 20 and the April event will receive vouchers for Leopard. The April event will see the official release of Leopard, iLife 07, iWork 07, and introduce all new Clovertown-based Mac Pros--which Steve will be using to show off all of the aforementioned software.

TouchScreen iMac with HDMi

Well a Touchscreen iMac with HDMi is the word I am hearing.

That would blow the market away almost as much as the iPhone.

"Year of the Touch"

Well, it wouldn't blow the market away per se, HP's already got their big touch screen LCD/media center computer out. I was playing around with it at Best Buy; vaguely cool I guess, but I didn't see much practical use for it. I guess it was nice to be able to click on icons and move windows around without needing the mouse, but didn't seem like a huge deal to me.

What about this, it is a streach, but still. Look at this. It says that they will stop selling Final Cut Express HDon March 27, it's a strech but possibly they might be planning on that being the release date.

That doesn't say Apple will stop selling Final Cut Express March 27th..It merely states the date the promo offer is good till.

If I'm not mistaken Tiger was available March 14th,theres a possibility that Leopard will be available then too.

There is a possibility that Leopard will be available on any given day prior to the official end of spring (which is June 21st). The Jobs II era of Apple has no record of being overly-sentimental about historical dates.

Generally Apple pre-announces OSes about 1.5 to 2 months in advance of release.(It takes about a month to go from GM to shipping enough retail copies for launch). My guess no Leopard until April at the earliest, but May is probably more realistic.

The defining difference between the HP offering and the Apple offering will be multi-touch, whereby the screen registers multiple touch points at once. Of course the average consumer will just buy the HP for novelty value and not know the difference, but the multi-touch is for those interested in going beyond novelty.

This is what I have been waiting for since the Mac Pro's were launched last year: New Mac Pro with Leopard nothing else.

I wanted to wait till Leopard came out before buying a Mac

February 12th is my birthday so if Apple introduces the Mac Pro 8 core on Feb 20th and Leopard in March - I'm happy with it, but not later then March please:)

All hte best to you, but I doubt even if it is announced we will see it before April

well i am getting on the bubble to time to order a mbp. I want to wait for leopard. I want to wait for the new screens. I want to wait for the bump in core speeds...Come on apple give me an idea. If it will be longer than may then I need to go ahead and order one today.

I'm waiting as well, but I am in no hurry. If you need it, then why wait until May? If you can wait that long, then why not wait the extra month to see what comes out at WWDC?
