08:30 05Feb2007 PRN-Apple Inc. and The Beatles' Apple Corps Ltd. Enter into New Agreement <AAPL.O>

CUPERTINO, Calif. and LONDON, Feb. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Apple(R)
Inc. and The Beatles' company Apple Corps Ltd. are pleased to announce the
parties have entered into a new agreement concerning the use of the name
Apple and apple logos which replaces their 1991 Agreement. Under this new
agreement, Apple Inc. will own all of the trademarks related to "Apple" and
will license certain of those trademarks back to Apple Corps for their
continued use. In addition, the ongoing trademark lawsuit between the
companies will end, with each party bearing its own legal costs, and Apple
Inc. will continue using its name and logos on iTunes(R). The terms of
settlement are confidential.
Commenting on the settlement, Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO said, "We love the
Beatles, and it has been painful being at odds with them over these
trademarks. It feels great to resolve this in a positive manner, and in a way
that should remove the potential of further disagreements in the future."
Commenting on the settlement on behalf of the shareholders of Apple Corps,
Neil Aspinall, manager of Apple Corps said, "It is great to put this dispute
behind us and move on. The years ahead are going to be very exciting times for
us. We wish Apple Inc. every success and look forward to many years of
peaceful co-operation with them."
NOTE: Apple, the Apple logo, Mac, Mac OS, Macintosh, and iTunes are
trademarks of Apple. Other company and product names may be trademarks of
their respective owners.

Great. But what does this have to do with the topic of the thread?

So sorry, trying to read everything here but the board keeps crashing. I was planning to order a Macbook at the end of this month anyway but Leopard will only be shipped with Pros for now if this rumor is true?

Not sure what you mean about "Pros" only. Leopard will ship with all Macs when it is released. They wouldn't continue using an older version of OS X on the MacBook

Ok thanks, must have read the article wrong. I sure hope this true!! Where is this Apple Events page everyone is talking about?

EDIT: Btw, Leopard is almost certainly not coming out this month. I get the impression that you might be expecting that a MacBook you buy at the end of this month is going to have Leopard on it, and that is almost definitely not going to happen.

At best Leopard might be fully unveiled this month, but most everyone still expects it will not actually ship until May or June.

No really? I just re-read the article and it says 3-24...I know this is just a rumor but it had me hopeful and I would wait until then but I can't wait until the summer...

Well, yeah, that's the rumor, but there's been almost no confirmation of it anywhere else. Almost every report about the state of Leopard indicates that it is going to be much closer to June than anything sooner in terms of release date.

You might as well get a MacBook now and then just buy a copy of Leopard when it does come out.

As tiger 10.4.9 has been seeded to testers, I would assume that that version will be wild for a couple of months at least before 10.5 is released. Otherwise, what is the point of 10.4.9 ?

I would expect April May as the Leopard release window.

A valid point, but it's worth noting that Apple can and will continue doing smaller updates to previous OS's............ not everyone would upgrade to 10.5, so Apple would still want to roll out an update to 10.4 with what they deemed to be necessary updates, fixes, etc.

can I just sum it up....no one has any clue when leopard is coming out lol....i know i want it just as bad as the next person but we're just gonna have to wait and see cuz all of these rumors about release dates have been crappy so far....the last rumor was about possible mac pro's and leopard and all they released were colored ipod shuffles....common apple...microsoft comes out with vista and what do you do??? you come out with colored shuffles..pathetic...me want leopard now!!!:apple:

possible

random queastion: do you think there will be an imac update on Feb 20? The reason I ask is if you look at the "Buyer's guide" it says that the current imacs are due for an upgrade and I know that people have been talking about having blu-ray drives added so I can only speculate there will a new imac.

For the people staying with Tiger...10.3.9 came out way after 10.4 came out...

i hope for a imac upgrade soon i plan on purchasing a imac soon and i would hate to get a imac and then announced newer imacs the week after blu ray would be nice i have a ps3 but not a hd tv but having a imac that is capable of having blu ray and playing them would be nice

The iMac is built on the same mobile platform that the laptops are, so I don't think it makes a whole lot of sense for Apple to do an iMac revision before the "Santa Rosa" platform is out, so I can't see an iMac upgrade until May.

An incremental update with slightly increased specs would be OK, but I don't know that I'd hold my breath.

Re: blu-ray, I don't know that blu-ray drives have gotten cheap enough that they could go in the iMac just yet without affecting the price. Aside from that, I kind of wonder if Apple doesn't want to wait and see how things shake out.

Think (different) we are going to see a preview of the final Leopard real soon. Would be in line with an event on the 20th. I'm signed up to ADC and just reveived this...

Sounds like a "feature-complete" version is due soon. Figure launch 6 to 8 weeks later. I'm still pegging it at April 24th.

Thanks for the response. I've just been looking to get a new imac and didn't want to buy one and have a new version come out right after I purchase it (it happened to me with my mac mini - obviously I wasn't keeping up with my mac rumors at that time ;-) ).

Ditto, but I'm working that day so can't make it. :(

As for new machines, I keep telling customers that they can forget any new portables or iMacs before March/April time. I suspect the next ones they release will have Leopard and Santa Rosa based Meroms. I'd love the 24" to come with Blu Ray and bigger hard drives, (maybe 400GB+, but at least 320GB), as standard, but I don't think I'll see everything updated that I want. I may customise.

so...hopefully something is indeed cooking ...

AAPL: Apple announcement this month? - LoopRumors.com (84.62 +0.47)
[Update]

LoopRumors.com reports very reliable sources are saying that Apple will be
making an announcement this month. The nature of the announcement is not yet
known, but the rumors around the net point to one of two things: A Beatles
announcement, or a new wide-touch-screen video iPod. LoopRumors' sources are
'very confident' that Apple will make an announcement this month. LoopRumors
mentioned that Apple is readying a Special Event either late this month or
early March. This new information suggests that Apple will make the
announcement sooner than later. Information trickled in after Steve Jobs's
keynote that there were other products to be announced, but didn't want to
steal the limelight from the iPhone or AppleTV. LoopRumors reported that Apple
was working on several other devices and expect a few of these to be
introduced this year. Steve Jobs has already gone on record saying this will
be the most exciting new product year in Apple's history.

Sirius Satellite Radio Perhaps?

With all the talk about a possible merger between XM and Sirius. I've read in the past about how Sirius' chip set was too big (credit card size) to fit inside an ipod (needs to be like finger nail size) and ultimitely the reason why Steve turned down Mel. It' now two years later with over 6 million subscribers. Does anyone here think it might be time for a change of heart out of Steve to partner up with Mel and Sirius?

probably not true but i read somewhere that leopard is ready, apple hasn't shown the UI to any of the developers and it is good to go...so maybe feb 20th is gonna be a good day for us

Here in Australia we've got a $199 rebate with the purchase of a new mac and iPod. This goes until mid April. I would therefore conclude that there will be no updates to any of Apple's range until mid April, probably the day after the offer expires.

I'm hoping for a Leopard preview with of course free leopard upgrade coupons awarded to all Mac purchases come the 20th of Feb. I doubt this though, because of the obvious leopard theme in that other future event (WWDC 11-16 June), where it seems leopard will be previewed and released.

You don't work in software development do you? I do.

Even if only the UI is the only thing that is changed, then the whole OS has to be given the kind of testing that third party developers can. At the very least they have to check to see if their current software will actully work correctly.

That means there are several weeks of "release candidate" version of the OS to go through beta testing at the hands of developers, followd by a few more weeks to take the gold master, turn it into pressed DVDs, and get them out to the stores and warehouses.

That is 6 to 8 weeks minimum after the first release canditate surfaces. It ain't happend yet. A new UI can in no way be considered "good to go" sight unseen, and Apple has never shown itself dumb enough to launch a completely untested OS on the public. Even MicroSoft is not that stupid (thier problems are more to do with fundimental design flaws that they can't fix for various reasons - not lack of testing).
