If you look at the apple server status page it says on the time line that the site will be down from 7am until 11am Eastern Standard Time. I don't understand how they can do this for four hours without losing their asses...

It also says their photo printing is under maintenance, I assume this is just part of the store however.
Good to know.

So it's planned to be down that long.

Won't stop people on MR from reloading every few minutes and then acting surprised it's still down.

Or complaining it shouldn't be scheduled to be down that long in the first place with our infinite knowledge.

Good catch! Kinda wish I thought to check hours ago lol

I was actually considering getting an iPad Air 2 (would be my first iPad), but after watching the Keynote yesterday I am disappointed in the updates Apple have made this time around. In my opinion these updates Apple have made for the iPad, Mac Mini, & iMac all seem not worth it for me, unfortunately. Paying $2,500 for an entry-level iMac with Retina 5K Display is outrageous!! Apple at least should have made the internal specs for the iMac better to justify that price...

the $2500 5K iMac is not entry level. the 21 inch is

If it's standard time, that means it won't be up until noon EDT.

New ipod coming!!!!!!!!!!!

I just got word from my friend at apple that when the store comes back online the entire iPod line will see a minor refresh. same look, but larger flash storage and minor price changes

Sadly, as an Apple fan, and collector, I am underwhelmed with both newest models, especially considering their prices. I was waiting out to see if the new models had any new physical features (knowing it was unlikely), but sadly they actually deleted one, the mute/rotation lock switch, which he makes little sense to me (how many pennies per unit are they saving)

Just need to decide now if it is worth it for me to save ~$300 to abandon iOS and go with an Android tablet that has some of the hardware features I am after. The downside is, it will also require me to purchase Android versions of the photo / video tools I use for editing and posting content, and find ways to share data between my iPhone and tablet when traveling without a laptop. I know of a few options for this, however iCloud has been my tool for most of these situations.

Using my old iPad with iOS 8.1 will be the deciding factor. Continuity may keep the newest iPad Air in the running for me.

Just a thought: maybe they are monitoring the number of visits to each country's store whilst it is down, and they've got a load of stock waiting to be loaded onto planes in China. Once the site goes live, they fly corresponding amounts of stock to each location and make sure that demand is met globally. The reason it's down for so long is to ensure that they get good data. Just a thought...

For what it's worth, one of the resellers is listing 8am PT (11am Eastern) for preorders starting.

I'm genuinely curious. What hardware features are you after that the iPad doesn't offer?

I find Google+, Google Drive, and Dropbox to be much better solutions than iCloud. I don't like "syncing" and don't consider iCloud to be a true cloud - it's a mess IMO.

Google+ provides a real cloud both backup and accessibility from any device, browser, and platform. Dropbox provides file syncing better any device and platform.

Would make sense as the A5 is ooooold. But wild that with the endless time-waster no-news rehash of the first half of yesterday's event, Schiller wouldn't have taken 30 seconds to mentioned this.

If this will be your first iPad, there's no reason to be disappointed. The iPad Air 2 technically is the best iPad. I'd highly recommend getting the new Air as it is faster, thinner with a better camera.

I see it as a disappointment only to people who recently (past 2yrs) bought iPads/mini's.
