Apple Store Goes Down Ahead of Apple Event Today, Apple Silicon Macs Expected to Debut

We have seen leaks from Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, there will be no design changes. Todays event is about Apple Silicone, they will put it in the existing Macs. Bigger design changes are rumoured to be coming next year (new iMac and a 14” MacBook Pro with Apple silicone). At least that’s whats leaked/rumoured.
Goddammit. Still no design updates? They've gone from pushing the envelope to pulling it back to 10 years ago. -_-

Not happening.

13" pro and standard MacBooks.
Might see a minor A14 spec bump ipad Pro too.

Doubt we'll even see AirTags.

Not sure why the 16” model should be left out? Didn’t they release the MacBook Pro line as the first Macs with intel back then?

Yeah I think at least one model will be able to order right after the event. That's why they had to release the beta of Big Sur with the .1, the previous version is already installed on Macs shipping in a few days

No design updates this year. This event is all about Apple moving to their own silicone. The insides will have a big update (Apple graphics, processors and so on) but the outsides are not likely too. There’s an outside possibility that they bring back the 12” MacBook or maybe that could the the Air reduced in size and weight. But reputable leakers have not mentioned that.

There could be a surprise or two tho, it seems like there haven’t been any last minute leaks (so far). With the tag line “One More Thing“ Apple don’t use that lightly, so either they are talking about the new Macs or it could be a play on words meaning just one more event (this year). But if Cook says the words during the event, then I’m expecting a surprise or two.

But how is taking the store offline before the event helping to cope with the traffic after the event? If at all, they would scale up their store servers before or during the event, not shut them down.
And the fact that their store survives the insane traffic makes me believe even more that taking it down for an update is not required, but a gimmick.

It's probably a combination of pushing cached updates out to all their servers with refreshed information, giving themselves time to fix any issues, and keeping the store offline while they do the event to avoid spoilers. They may also use this maintenance window to fix other underlying store issues we're not aware of too.

There are more modern ways of doing this for sure, but it's not surprising they choose to stick with something that has worked so reliably for them.

In a bold move, Apple goes back to its roots to resurrect the PowerBook name and after almost 20 years, it’s finally happening, the PowerBook G5.

(I couldn’t help myself)
He he, just for fun: I found a photo of 2001 PowerBook G4 and Late-2019 16" MacBook Pro. G4 had been a super-king with those bezels in 2001!!!

In an unlucky bit of timing, I purchased an album on the iTunes Store just as Apple took everything down. So the downloads are still sitting there unfinished. Hopefully they'll complete when the store goes back up. I didn't think that Apple's entire purchasing ecosystem was tied together.

I was unaware this was the case, very odd.

Its hype and tradition - that's all.

Well, the AppStore is still alive and kicking.

The rumormongers say it will be the same design. Perhaps its Apple way of saying it does the same things your old one did just with different internals.
More like its Apple's way of preserving the new design for another round of updates. Why give people more than 1 reason to upgrade at once, when you can spread it across 2 iterations?
Apple Silicon? Reason to upgrade.
New design? Reason to upgrade.
