Mechanical products do fail.

While I read “not hospitalized” as to mean “likely not an accident,” it could just mean “not an accident caused by an issue with the driver.” Mechanical error is quite a reasonable cause until we know more.

This actually happened to someone I know just this summer. Car without warning wouldn't be able to stear anymore, brakes not working and the only way the car stopped was after it meeting a tree...

Not saying this was the case here, as we don't yet know, just underlining that such things do happen.

Everyone really just stop with the arm chair detectiving and speculating and sit tight until we all - including the police - know more. This literally just happened.

As for the jokes and other insensitive comments... because you never wish anyone something bad, I truly just wish it will never be your friends and family that suddenly are on the news and you'd learn the hard way ...

It is, of course, still possible that there was a medical emergency, but police won't typically say that they've opened a criminal investigation shortly thereafter if that's their belief. That would suggest that they believe this was either done intentionally by the driver or the result of criminal negligence on the driver's part.
They said that after my post.

This was not a Tesla. And the guy apparently was driving 60-80 mph. This was almost definitely deliberate. So sad. What is wrong with people these days?

Yikes this is terrible. Hopefully this wasn't deliberate.
knowing the parking lot rather well the vehicle would have need to have the accelerator pretty much wide open and no braking for a path finder to be going that fast.

They are designing them. Unlike other companies, they won't hit the market until they are safe.
Got it, agreed.

I was just asking in general, not trying to be snarky about the event. Best wishes for a speedy recovery to all those harmed in this horrific event.

Could’ve hit the gas instead of the brake by accident.
Sure, someone could have started that way. But what's the normal reaction to that? It's to reflexively pull your foot back, not press down harder. No way the car would have jumped the curb while navigating a sharp right to turn into front of the store, rammed through the window, and driven all the way to the back of the store.

The PD in that area doesn't need their team of detectives and investigators to look into this apparently. The True Crime fans on the internet have already solved it.

Costly yes. But dangerous? Eh, consider how many cars are on the road each day and the percentage of fatal events can't be that high. Obviously even 1 is a sad tragedy but I wouldn't call cars inherently dangerous.
They are much, much safer than they used to be but a lot less safe than trains and walking.

Walking isn't an option except for short distances though.
I walk 5 minutes to the bus or underground station and then I can go wherever I want. Many destinations are faster by tube than car. If cars were more restricted people would probably support building out better, faster transport options in their cities. Obviously it has to be a gradual transition. Probably makes sense to restrict cars in small areas of city centers and expand outwards. More efficient and less accidents or room for intentional violence in densely populated areas.

Seeing all the jokes makes one wonder about the value of reading and posting comments here.
Yep, and while I don't want to give specific examples, I think most forum sites have been on a decline the past few years in terms of trolling, etc.

I want the truth about things, that's why I only look at specific news sites, because I know about all the ethical violations that occur on other news sites. I took a class on journalism ethics, and I can name COUNTLESS ethical problems with specific sites.

The way people are influenced by such garbage, it's ridiculous and upsetting. It's kind of like peer pressure...

Terrible and I think this is why a lot of areas like this should consider installing barriers so these type of tragedies don't continue to occur.
