Yeah, someone who normally drives 20 miles under the highway speed limit decided to drive at highway speeds in a parking lot. Brilliant insight.
Back off, Gasu. I have seen it in the news here--sudden acceleration into a building by an oldster behind the wheel. It happens more than you'd expect. Over the summer, an oldster here drove her SUV *into* a mall. And by "into" I mean she drove it through a mall entrance and down the mall walkway lol. Impressive.

I signed up for macrumors on 2005, mostly as a lurker.
But today I gotta say something: someone died, several got hurt and yet some people are making jokes about it.
Goes on to show how ****** people are.
Anyway, back to being a lurker for the next 2 decades.

Well, I just read this on CNN:

Apple’s Derby Street location in Hingham is currently closed, according to its website.

“We’re sorry for the inconvenience while this store is closed,” the website said. “Until we can reopen again, please consider using our online services.”

There are some reports in the last hour that this was deliberate and the driver is in police custody. I'm not sure of their veracity, but I'm sure more definitive and official statements will be be made soon on the matter.
It is what local news is saying:

Apple Derby Street in the Boston suburb of Hingham, Massachusetts was struck by a vehicle on Monday morning, according to local ABC affiliate WCVB. The report claimed that multiple people were injured and said first responders and ambulances were on scene.

Shortly before 11 a.m. local time, a black SUV crashed through the store's glass facade at a high rate of speed and ended up at the back wall of the store, witnesses said. As of Monday afternoon, WCVB reported that one person has died and at least 19 people were taken by ambulance to area hospitals, with four of the victims in critical condition.

In a media briefing, police and fire department officials said there is an active criminal investigation, but declined to provide further details.

If this was deliberate, then that's a whole other thing.

Deliberate? My God.

But the odds are GREATLY against this, obviously. In spite of that news post.

I can't confirm this but it's starting to be shared on various sites as credible

I see no articles claiming that tweeted comments
The driver was not hospitalized and is said to be in police custody. Charges have not yet been announced, but Cruz confirmed that an “active criminal investigation is underway,” calling the incident “unthinkable.”

Yeah someone who has no idea what they’re commenting on…commenting. Brilliant post.

Mechanical products do fail.

I have suggestion!

Let's ALL just only post friendly and helpful things in the thread! A MR challenge! I know, it's hard.

It happened around an hour ago, not knowing what happened yet doesn't make it some conspiracy or sealed criminal situation. It could easily be a health related issue still. When people aren't making light of the situation, they turn into armchair detectives. Sad stuff.
It is, of course, still possible that there was a medical emergency, but police won't typically say that they've opened a criminal investigation shortly thereafter if that's their belief. That would suggest that they believe this was either done intentionally by the driver or the result of criminal negligence on the driver's part.

Valid point. While I read “not hospitalized” as to mean “likely not an accident,” it could just mean “not an accident caused by an issue with the driver.” Mechanical error is quite a reasonable cause until we know more.

I’m invested because I have at least one friend (not a close friend) that works there. He’s fine, has no information. I used to work at the Apple Store where most of the staff at this store relocated back when it was being remodeled in 2015-16.

The post may have gotten DUI confused with deliberate, both being criminal, although the distinction is not trivial of course. But it's the news.
