I don't want to buy a jet black, I'll be satisfied to get a matte black Plus 128gb that's all I want but I don't know if it's even worth going to the Apple Store to try since the report says there won't be walkin stock, they reserved their entire stock for the "Apple Upgrade Program" customers and left little to no stock to walkins, it must have to do with Apple.com screwing up the preorders from these Apple upgrade program orders that weren't going through on the website when preorders went live due to some server error so Apple is trying to make it up to these Apple upgrade program customers

If you want a jet black then going to an Apple Store on day one makes little to no sense as there is allegedly no stock of the jet black available at launch

I used to work for Apple. I'll chime in here.

1. Apple Stores gets iPhone couple days before launch date sitting in a room with 24/7 guards (not joking).
2. There ARE limited stock (like any other product launching and releasing to the public) but they do get shipments throughout the day and your best luck is be the first 50 in line to guarantee your iPhone if you didn't pre-order.
3. Don't bother calling in the store.
4. If you pre-ordered, there's a SEPARATE line you will still wait for about 5-15 min even though you made reservation to pick up in store so that the traffic of people aren't crazy.
5. Your best bet is to wait at a carrier store over night if you really want one since no one really camps out for that. But good luck!
6. Be safe and have fun.

Cheers! :)

That being said, no one really knows what the supply of Matte or Jet Black will be. I would be surprised to see any Jet Black, but maybe a few Matte Black will be around. Maybe I can try to pry some more info out of the people I know at the Apple Store...

they won't tell you quantity...no one knows only except the store leader (the gm of the store). Jet Black is like the whole Gold iPhone again lol. Limited quantity since it's a new production process that Apple did. I went with Matte :)

At this point, I'd rather have Matte Black. I realize how obsessive I am about fingerprints and scratches, so there's no point in buying Jet Black only to put a case on it (clear cases suck. I tried that with Gold already, so I know from experience).

I may consider another color other than Matte Black. I prefer the black border though...

I'm with you on the black border thing, it's the only reason I stick with black. Still hoping someday they do the black and gold combo

What do you mean by "preorder"? I preordered my iPhone on the 9th of September and got a delivery windows of Oct4-10 so if I decide to stand in line on Friday I'll be standing in the regular line and the preorder line correct?

You mean people that preordered through the Apple upgrade program will stand in a separate line ?

some people could pre-order and set a reservation to pick up the phone at their local store, even if they weren't necessarily part of the IUP

Ok, So you're saying they should definitely have stock of the 128gb iPhone 7 plus matte black for friday morning? i mean that should be realistic for me to assume ill get one on friday if i end up going out there to the apple store on thursday early enough?

I can't speak to your specific store. But I do know I've been able to get the phone I want by showing up on Thursday, and being at/near the front of the line at a few different stores over the years.

This Friday a bunch of sweaty virgins will be waiting outside for hours for a new phone, I on the other hand will be inside sipping tea waiting for a UPS driver to bring mine to me.

Every year, some yahoo makes the same childish generalization just because they want to dump on people for doing what they want to do. It's ok to not wait in line. It's ok to wait in line.

I'm in my late 40's, have a long successful career as a principal software architect, have a large family, engage in trail running and weight lifting daily. I'm probably more fit than you (despite my age) and probably make more money than you. I don't say this to pretend that makes me better than anyone for any reason: we all have our own challenges and priorities that are all valid. I say it simply to point out the ridiculousness of a statement like 'a bunch of sweaty virgins'. I've been at the front of the line for every release since ... maybe all of them? ... and with one exception, each of those years the people up there with me were typically entrepreneurs, engineers, or other successful individuals. And, really, it makes sense: to be waiting in the front of the line for an iPhone means you A) have to have the disposable cash to purchase a premium luxury item and, B) have to have a flexible enough schedule to afford you the time to be out there that long. The intersection between those two sets of people seem to yield a higher percentage of successful folks.

So, while others are sitting on their plump rumps sipping over-sugared water at home, I'll be out socializing, having fun, and enjoying the day with my new toy.

Things appear to be different this year regarding available stock for walk-ins with the new upgrade program (and class action lawsuit.)

It's looking like those walk in phones are now going to upgrade people...

I'll be socializing as well from inside my home, outside my home, at a restaurant across the street, get up to go to the bathroom anytime I want, to watch a little TV, talk to my neighbors and wait for the UPS truck to arrive. ;)

Not to mention I'll be able to open the package and set up my phone in a very comfortable area

Until Apple says something, it's all speculation. Do you really think they'd have the 'courage' to do a Launch Day with NO walk in stock at all? There's no way. Limited? So what else is new?

Are you paying cash or something? Why do this and not order online?

Two reasons. I typically trade in my last year's model to apply towards the price of the new one. Can't do that with pre-order.

That said, I still make a pre-order attempt, but I'm never able to get in on the first wave, it seems (probably having to do with living in the mountains, not-great ISP, etc), and the delivery dates are always pushed back by the time I'm able to get in there. I'd like the phone on Friday, and have fun doing the line thing anyway, so, no harm no foul.

Lining up for the iPhone is a ritual for a lot of people. If Apple was going to do that, they would let people know, period. If not, there would be a huge public back-lash.

Apple cares very much about the optics of the company. Its common sense.

If you pre-ordered the phone and it gives you Oct4-10, you can't stand in the pre-order line. the line is for those who have reserved their iPhone to be picked up at the Apple Store.

If you didn't get any notifications of it to be picked up at the store then you're out of luck.

We all experience launch day in our own different ways. :)

It's too much hassle to wait in line for a long time and be told "we do not have the model you want for walk-ins", it's happened to me in the past. Plus you know all the scalpers that camp overnight are going for the most desired model (Jet Black this year IMO). It looks like everyone here is on the same long wait boat. I think i am ok with waiting until my pre-order gets shipped this time around.

you can't expect to go latter at night and expect to get a phone, you need to line up before 5 PM on Thursday to even have a chance.
