What's the point of people lining up if there will be no stock for walkins? The 9to5mac article clearly says that whatever walk-in stock they receive will be going to fulfill Apple upgrade program orders because of the class action lawsuit Apple was hit with because these Apple upgrade program customers couldn't get their orders through on the 9th when preorders went live.

Yeah but most people will sadly find out the hard way since most people aren't on forums to get this news. I'm trying to pass it to all my friends that aren't so they know what they are up against come Friday.

I probably got to the store around 3:30am and I was the 3rd person in line. Now this was a small city in NC so there weren't that many people. The line did grow but it was nothing crazy.

It was us three in line until around 5am or so and then more people started to roll up.

Dang man, like I said I was thinking of heading to my local VZW store at like 4 am, and I too live in a small town sort of in West Texas. But now based off what you said I may got to rethink my strategy if you were the third person at 3:30 am. Did you get the phone you wanted though?

I typically line up at 7 AM... have gotten a phone every time :)
You either live in Timbuktu or you're not picky and willing to take anything in stock. The plus models with more storage usually run out first. If you want one of those you need to be in early.

9to5 mac could be wrong, I am going to go my apple store first thing in the morning tomorrow when they open and talk to the GM of the store and ask if there will be any phones left for walk-ins

Because 9to5mac isn't the Apple PR department. Until Apple officially announces it (wouldn't THAT be nice), it's just a reporter who heard it from "someone close to the process".

There are people who would be willing to sit in line for you if you paid them some cash for their time and you could switch place with them

I'm not that desperate plus I'm already shelling out between $700-$1000 for the phone. I'll go around 11pm. If I don't get then whatever I wait another week.

Yep. 64gb Space Grey 5S. I mean you can never be too early. I would rather be super early than to get there late. At least you can be early and wait in your car. I want to say that I was the first person there but I waited in my car until the two people walked up together and then I got in line.

Do what you see fit but I say the earlier the better. I feel you would be ok around 4am though. Depends on what model you are shooting for.

Ridiculously ridiculous :D they should pass out tokens ahead of time for crowd control like they do rock concerts.

No pushing or shoving or jumping over plants or bushes or knocking down barriers or camping out overnight. Everyone gets in line one by one when they call your number the morning of and calmly receive your pretty little iPhone with a pretty little smile on your face.

I'm giving it a shot just because I'm desperate to switch phones ASAP due to a broken phone and I definitely have the free time to go to the store and give it a shot. I also personally enjoy this kind of thing. For me, it's worth checking it out, but I'm not going with the expectation that I'm definitely going to get the phone at the store on Friday

Not looking to get into an argument but I jus talked to 3 store employees on my lunch break today who assured me they will at least have SOME phones for walk ins. So unless Apple officially announces this is just a rumor.

Yeah I actually waited in a mini line for the 6 when it dropped here in Atlanta at Lenox Mall and it was very well organized. You walked up to the line and they ask you the model you want, the look it up to check stock and if they still had it ok stock, they will give you a card with that model and color and you were guaranteed that device.

well it may be but I think everyone should know that the stocks wont be plentiful.

Wait so is a walkin for a JB+ basically impossible LOL especially if you cancel a pre order upgrade beforehand?

Yep my buddy is in Durham and he said people were already outside of Southpoint. I do think everyone should wait in line at least once. I did for the 5S but that was at a Verizon store. I cant even imagine how it would be at the Apple Store.

Southpoint is just nuts any day of the year..for this launch it's going to be ridiculous. My wife would look at me like I have two heads if I told her I was going to wait in line over night for an iPhone.

If I was going to wait in line I would do it at my local ATT store, we have a fairly large one that always gets a good batch in, though this class action lawsuit for AIUP would be a worry for people lining up. Those phones got to come from somewhere.

Yeah man I want the 32GB-Black Matte (regular black) 7 model. Man I am thinking the same thing of chilling in my truck until I see someone else roll up and then hop out and get in line with my fold out lawn chair.

I think you going for that configuration you should be good. I remember I got a 64gb 6 after work here on release day in Atlanta. That's not an easy task with how busy the mall gets so I'm sure if you get there early in the morning to a carrier store you can def get what you want. I would think.

Is there a limit for how many you can purchase per person at a launch? I remember for the 6, I think, people were complaining about how the people at the front of the line purchased multiple.

If you want a JB and you want it day one you need to wait in line from Thursday afternoon at least to even get a chance.

Yes the jet black is impossible because not a single person on the forums got a delivery day date when they preordered the jet black so that means Apple doesn't even have launch day inventory of the jet black
