I'm reading all the nano texture reviews... I ordered tilt/height + nano and debating cancelling, but then that bumps me to the back of the line by 8 weeks if I cancel and order the standard. Ugh!
The standard glass with the basic stand model is always available in my local electronics retailer here. Just not available from Apple Stores.

Don’t get the Apple studio display. There is a major fault with the power supply. I’ve been through 3 of them all with the same issues. Loud buzzing sound coming from the top of the monitor when the brightness is below 2/3rds full. Video link supplied:

I think Apple is aware of the issue and it appears they have pulled all the stock in Australia. I can’t find it anywhere.

Just out of interest - are those of you that are experiencing issues using the monitor with a laptop or a stationary mac with its own power connection? I can also hear buzzing from time to time from my display, but it seems to stop completely when disconnecting the TB-cable from my MBA. Curious as to whether somehow making the laptop draw power through its own power supply and cable rather than the monitor and TB-cable could be a fix.

I have this noise as well (see this thread), though it doesn‘t seem to be as loud. Haven‘t had anyone else confirm this behavior on a Studio Display yet (some Cinema Displays apparently had that issue?), so I was planning on contacting Apple Support today and ask for a replacement. What did they tell you, and how did you get your hands on 3 displays already? I fear I won‘t get a new one before June, hoping I can keep using my current one until the replacement arrives since I need it for my daily work (if Apple even agrees to a replacement at all).

BTW, I only have MacBooks here to test, so yes they get their power from the display. That‘s how I intend to use it 100% of the time, so wouldn‘t help me much if the issue went away with a Mac powered externally.

Hey mate.

So when I got my hands on the 3rd screen with the same issue I went through apple care and jumped through all the support hoops they had. I ended up speaking to someone at the apple headquarters in Austin Texas USA (6am in the morning sydney time) and all they could do for me was to take it into my closest apple store and send the monitor away to be pulled apart and investigated. Apple couldn't guarantee when they would be able to replace the monitor or even be able to fix the monitor. So I decided to take the monitor back to Harvey Norman (Australian shop), get my money back and now Im using the LG ultra fine 5K Monitor for Mac, which has zero problems.

This is very upsetting, Apple knows there is a problem with the 240v 50hz version of the monitor. Every single apple store in NSW has Zero stock. They have all been pulled, and I feel sorry for anyone who has bought this monitor. If I was you I would take it back and get your money back and wait till apple fix this issue.

Thanks for the detailed answer… that sounds really disappointing. I‘m surprised you don‘t read about those issues anywhere yet, especially if it really were a universal problem with 230V 50Hz (I‘m in Germany BTW, so same config I guess?).

Let‘s see what Apple Support tells me. I‘m really really happy with my display besides that noise (which I don‘t regularly hear in my current setup – yet).

I only hear the noise when the brightness was about 2/3rd full or half full. At full brightness no noise at all. That tells me that its a power supply issue. It was very common in early 5k iMac's. Some kinda issue with power supply that regulates voltage to do with brightness.

I can also hear that noise, but only at the back of my ASD. Sitting in front I don't hear it.
Could it also depend on how much power the MacBook is drawing?
@KandiMountain let us know what Apple tells you. I am also based in Germany.

Same for me, only when brightness isn‘t 100% – but that‘s how I use it all of the time, and there seemed to be a lot of people with no noise, even at low brightness, so that got me thinking sth. might be wrong with mine.

Received my 2nd Studio Display today and have had time to use them for a while. The second display hasn't prompted for a firmware update so I wonder if the first display updates it, the Mac updates it, or it just hasn't prompted me yet.

Overall they are great however there is one issue I noticed straight away. If you have you Mac Studio underneath your display as Apple has shown, then you will be impairing one of the speakers. As soon as I started playing music I noticed it as there is less room for the sound to escape on the side you have the Mac.

Also it is not possible to use the speakers in both displays at the same time as far as I can tell. Because of this one of the displays speakers will be completely redundant. This is especially strange when you have sound coming out of one display but your YouTube video is playing on the other (silent) display.

Build quality is as superb as you would expect and they look amazing.View attachment 1985375
Amazing setup! What are you using for the bias lighting behind the monitor? I use 3x Philips Hue Play Bars at the moment on my Ultrafine - not sure if it’s sacrilegious to attach 3M tape to an Apple display…

I bought my studio display at an Australian Apple store on 18 March and have zero noise. I have been using it daily and it is completely quiet. I am running it through my UPS. Are you sure they have zero stock in Australian Apple stores because they have been pulled? Maybe they are just all sold out? They are available for order with delivery stated for late May - early June. I am originally from Ohio and it looks like no stores there have stock until May. I checked a couple of of other states and even other countries and found nothing in stock anywhere.

I do not run my display at 100%, but have had it down to 50% or a bit less. I have not tried it lower than that, but will tomorrow.

I am very sorry you had this problem and hope it is not widespread.

I have quite sensitive ears and I usually hear noises that other people may not notice, for me my Studio Display is silent. Here the voltage is 220v/50Hz. Stocks from Apple Store appeared for two or three days before they were completely gone. The last one stayed quite a few days because it is with the $400 height adjustable stand. Haha. But another electronics retail store still has the base version and the one with VESA mount in stock for next day delivery.

I just returned mine for the same issue. I had a long discussion with Apple engineering on the phone, and it’s clear this is a design flaw that will require a manufacturing fix.
