The issue is that the brightness is max by default and there is no way to change that on the ASD since there are no controls on it, and no way to control it from the Elitebook either. Got it to output at 4k with a bit of faffing and it looks fine. The ASD wasn't detected initially too. Think I had to set it to mirror display in the Elitebook.
I've seen that the Firmware upgrade turns the brightness down some...but I can't upgrade the Firmware to check.
Edging closer to returning the ASD. I think it's awesome, albeit a bit overpriced (IMO), but with the technical issues I'm finding it hard to keep it. Maybe the LG Ultrafine will get a look in, but not hearing good things about build quality on that.

Hi, I am seeing different configuration for iMac 5K inbuilt Screen vs. Studio Display in Bootcamp Windows.
Both panels seems to be different or alternately my windows is messed up.
Can any one help to understand why
-my IMac 5k 2020 i7/5500XT. can't match active signal mode to desktop mode while studio display can match?
Other Observations
-Studio display is allowing 12bit depth/Full RGB 4.4.4 while inbuilt 5k iMac 2020 Screen allowing only 10bit depth

Which Mac mini configuration is that? Can it handle 5K well?
From what I understand, the solution to controlling the brightness (using Windows) on either ASD or Pro Display XDR is to use the Belkin/Huawei VR cable, which has USB connectors that will tunnel through the USB-C cable you can use with the Apple display. You'd need Apple's Bootcamp drivers in order to adjust the brightness in Windows.
Handled it fine so far, M1 Mini (16GB RAM, 512GB SSD).

The Intel UHD Graphics Control Panel seems to work for me. Others have said it hasn’t worked for them.
Add it to your cart on apple.com and go all the way to the final checkout step. You might see it available for pickup at a local Apple store. Although it's unlikely, that's probably your best shot.
When I go on the Apple Store app I’m seeing I can pick up any version in store on June 23rd. I’ve never seen a pick up date that far out so maybe that’s when they’re going to start?
That’s been showing up for the past 2 weeks. Apple is just basing that on the estimated ship times of new orders. However, over the past few days, many stores have received tilt-only nano-texture displays. Those stores update to “available today” if you select that model.
Mine switched to “Preparing for shipment” yesterday. My quoted shipping window was April 7 - 14.
Just in case for anyone wanting to purchase an ASD VESA Mount. I was able to purchase yesterday a pair from Best Buy with store pickup for April 20th. You have to go to the store in person and check with your local BB store if it's available for store pickup in your area. Chat doesn't work, you have to go in person as online it shows "Coming Soon" so you can't place the order online but in person is totally possible:
I posted this info yesterday and already two other guys posted they were able to order the VESA Mount option with store pickup for April 20th as well.
Any tips on how to pull this off? I tried calling my local store today* and the guy told me that the backend claimed all models were "unavailable." Personally I want the tilt & height model, but I didn't specify and asked about all models.
You have to go in person and talk to the person in charge of Apple area. I didn’t do anything extra ordinary. I just gave the SKU:6501569 to the BB girl in charge of Apple area, she went into the system and told me that the ASD VESA Mount was in fact available for her to order with store pickup as early as April 20th, then right away I placed two separate orders. At least yesterday they had available. They call this kind of orders “early access”. This is the second early access as there was one before with store pickup for April 14th. According to the BB Chat Representative who gave me the tip to order directly from the store, the public availability is scheduled around April 25th for online orders.
Alas. I hope B&H or Adorama releases theirs for purchase soon. I don't want to wait until late June.
Just in case, I haven’t canceled my Apple order for a pair of ASD VESA with scheduled delivery for May 27 - June 13, though. I will cancel it as soon I get the pair from BB.
