Well, I just got the nano-texture model, and comparing it side-by-side with the glossy, I'm leaning toward keeping the nano. I don't see much difference in reading text, but the difference in reflection is significant, particularly when the sun is shining right into my living room.

Update: I’m keeping the nano and have already boxed the height-adjustable glossy to return to Apple tomorrow. But it was a tough choice. Both have their advantages and disadvantages.

I've been trying to test spatial audio, but there is no documentation on it.

How do I test spatial audio with studio display?

I've tried listening to Apple Music, but I don't see the spatial audio option in the control center.

This is a bit of a weird question and is just to satisfy my weird curiosity, but any chance someone with a tilt or tilt/height monitor would be willing to hold theirs sideways 90 degrees and see if it rotates the desktop? I’m very curious if they still have the accelerometer. If they don’t, then how could they swap stands like from that support document when the time comes?

Yes, it does. All models have the accelerometer. Note that it works only if you rotate it clockwise.

I think it does it automatically if you had spatial audio turn on in Apple Music.

IMO Apple should have made the height adjustable high enough to allow 90 degree rotation. The stand has excellent build quality and would be worth the $400 premium over the VESA and tilt-only models if it supported rotation. But that said, many people will find the height adjustment model worth the $400 premium as is.

Works almost in any app except Slack. I do not have portrait and center stage in Slack calls.
Let me add to that, the second part of this whole setup: the mic modes which are supposed to be fantastic (Standard, Voice Isolation and Wide Spectrum) I have only ever seen them on FaceTime. Not on Discord and not on Microsoft Teams.

Oh, so there is hope after all that once they extend those options to other apps the voice quality might improve and others won‘t hear every mouse click on Teams calls? That‘s great news – I wasn‘t aware of mic modes and thought the voice isolation was just really bad…

Are those also showing up in control center like the camera options?

I am doing lots of meetings (Webex, Google and Teams) and found the Studio Display audio/speakers really annoying, almost impossible to understand what somebody is talking.
Too much bass and sort of bubbling voices due to spatial/surrounding effects.
I got somehow better results going in MIDI app and choosing stereo setting. But there is no bass control whatsoever.
Most of the time I switch to the MBP speakers and all is okay, finaly clear voices. I wonder what Mac Studio and MacMini owners will do without other speakers available?!

This experience also rise the question what is the use of this sophisticated speaker system?
-Meetings and FaceTime - useless
-Music maybe, but music professionals use stereo, not surround.
-Games will be a good application but again cannot connect an Apple TV, PS, Nintendo to the Studio Display
-Movies also a good application, but you are limited, only the TV app or some streaming services in a browser window like 20 years ago. No Netflix, Hulu apps for MAC. And again, will be diferent story if could connect an Apple TV to the Studio Display
-FCPX maybe some professionals, but for home use not realy?

What about with TV app though..and what if you want to turn it off...?

It's hella confusing IMO...
I think the TV app is automatic too, try to watch See, and it sounds amazing. Apple Music you turn it off in preferences, playback Dolby Atmos, and I don't think you can turn it off in TV app.

Exactly, I do hope they add it, for Discord I have already submitted it as a request/bug on their support system and a post on Reddit. For Teams I don’t even know where to start…

Bear in mind that Teams has a not so bad built-in noise cancellation handling though, under device settings, doesn’t work as well for you?

Mic modes that appear for me on FaceTime:

I have those activated in Teams, but people still hear every click & key press. I think I tested all the options the first day I used the ASD and there was no really good one using the built-in mic. I now bought a small app to at least easily toggle between unmute/mute for calls I don‘t speak as much & when I‘m exhausted by wearing headphones so I hope it‘s not that bad for my colleagues…

Still, I‘m not even sure who would need to do something here, is it really the app developers like Teams & Discord? I would be surprised if that were the case given how widely Center Stage was supported from day 1 (and Photo Booth doesn‘t support it ?). I would have thought it‘s on Apple to feed the somehow filtered/altered video/audio input to the apps. ?

I seem to remember reading that Apple has a white list of apps that can use Centre Stage and the microphone stuff, but for the life of me I can't find the article.

I do remember on Day 1 of having ASD, there was no centre stage option in Teams... but then a few days later it appeared (and I can't see Microsoft being that quick to update Teams)

Ah, I see, then luckily I got my display a few days later when Teams worked with Center Stage right away (might have returned it otherwise).

Just did a test FaceTime call – those mic modes are pretty cool indeed, no typing audible in voice isolation mode. But: In all the modes I sometimes had an echo from the speakers on the other side!? Really hope there‘ll be some optimizations coming with future SW updates.

A few people out there used an M1 Mac mini with the Pro Display XDR were fine, so this shouldn't be a problem either.
Thank you for taking the time to reply.

Please see this and this YouTube video.

I sold my M1 iMac to get myself a M1 Mac Mini 16GB to pair it up w/ ASD and if 5K resolution makes the machine slower, the whole purpose is defeated.

My ASD is stuck in processing and in my country you cannot return it.

I ordered mine 11th March and expected 12th-26th May and so far not been delayed like I hear others have been on here. Mine just standard one. It bit of pain waiting so long for my display and my Mac Studio arrived 2 weeks ago (order on same day). Lucky I do have spare display I use for work, not good one but better than nothing. Still using my old iMac as main computer at moment since I don't have display for Studio and have to move work display around on working days and off days.

I’m using it with an 8GB M1 Mac Mini and it’s smooth as butter.

I've had the opposite experience. Hours of Zoom calls and no issues with audio. I love listening to music on it also.
