How is it that tidy with no cables showing ?

Cable management.

How do you like that desk pad? I was going back and forth on leather or felt, I went with leather. But, I'm still drawn to the felt.

Desk pad is merino wool which I picked up on Etsy UK, super soft and works great with mouse. That said leather is also a fine choice and will likely have more longevity.

I have a question and forgive my ignorance. I am debating this vs a LG 27” Ultrasharp. I will use the monitor with my work-issued Dell ThinClient that connects to a monitor via a USB C 3.1 / DisplayPort 2.1 connector. Will this laptop connect flawlessly to this monitor?

If it matters I am legally blind and downscale resolution to 1440 or less so I can read text (anything higher makes everything far too small for my vision unfortunately).

With a Dell (Windows) computer you will get better results with a LG 27" 4K display than with the Apple Studio Display. Not to mention that something like the LG 27UN880-B Ultrafine will cost you 1/3 of the ASD price. The ASD is basically a display to use with Apple computers equipped with M1 chips and Thunderbolt 3/4 ports.

I’m buying a Studio Ultra for the main computer but 3 days a week work from home and will use it as my work monitor. Still think saving money is worth it? My work invokes lots of video calls …

That changes everything. I had a pair of LGs 32UN880-B with my Mac Studio but I found them not sharp enough as I was spoiled by my iMac 5K Retina so decided to get a pair of ASDs VESA Mount and now I'm in heaven again. To me it was worthy but I don't have a Windows PC to plug in my ASDs. I have a HP X360 laptop that I use like 4 times a year to enter into some audio equipments settings that I can access only with a Windows computer but everything else in my place is Apple. I still have a LG 32UN880-B display that I use with a Lenovo ThinkCentre M90n in my bedroom as a Roon remote and the LG works perfectly fine with Windows. You should ask in the below thread as I know others have been using their Windows laptops with the ASD but you would need maybe a dock or some adapters or special cables to make it work properly.

Could anyone successfully use an ASD with a Dell XPS15 9510 via TB3? I heard that especially Dell Notebooks are problematic.

I returned my nano display and was lucky enough to pick up the standard display from a local store.
All I can say is I am very glad I made that decision.

I found the nano blurring out the text and linework too much whereas the standard is superb. Love it.

Sure it's just my eyes, but I feel my Stupid Display isn't getting as bright as it was on Day 1. I've got the brightness set to max and turned off auto adjust and True Tone.

Is there any way to check how many NITS it's producing?

Yes, get a colorimeter like the Datacolor SpyderX or the Calibrate ColorChecker.

Not what you asked, but if you turn the brightness down a notch or two, you will get EDR, which is a version of HDR where the ASD can display “whiter than white.”

Finally got my ASD today, with tilt+height
I love everything about it . . . except the camera which is offensively bad.
when did you order it? I just ordered one today (tilt+height). Web cam isn't a big deal in the big scheme of things. Unless you are making video content through your webcam.

Sorry your camera is bad. Mine is actually quite good but then all I use it for is zoom meetings. Responses from my zoom friends indicate it is quite good and more than acceptable.
Seeing some comparisons to other built-in webcams (like the LG ultrafine), it’s actually better than most. It just doesn’t seem to hold up to the best external webcams. I think the biggest thing is Apple kind of over promised.

I’ve used the camera once, to test, so it’s a non-issue for me. The display itself is a step up from my 27” iMac, and the build quality is top notch.

May I ask anyone using Windows 11 with ASD ? I can use it with Windows 11 5k resolution by using a Belkin cable. The sound and camera are working perfectly. For brightness control, I use Boot camp from the mac pro version in order to adjust the brightness in Windows 11.

However, It seems ASD does not recognize the previous brightness level if I completely cut the power off.

Someone show the solution that I have to log in to macOS once and then after that if you go into window 11, the brightness will be set to macOS level. I don't know if it still saves brightness level if I cut the power off or not.

Can anyone help me with this? I don't have any macOS device >_<" .

Running into a Zoom issue where I have 2 Studio Displays and it ONLY uses my right monitor's webcam, no matter what I do. Tried changing it to the other monitor in Zoom settings and even changed my "primary" display in the Mac settings.

Zoom will register the change (and even let me change my audio between the two), but as soon as I X out of the settings, it just reverts the webcam back to the right one.

Anyone else run into that issue?

I also have 2 Studio Displays. In Zoom, I can't change cameras from the settings, but I am able to change it in the meeting window while a meeting is active.

I now have a new XDR with a Logitech Pro 4k cam but I am adding 3 more Studio Displays around it. I'm hoping I can get it so that the Logitech is always on by default since there are 4 cameras total to choose from. That would be a pain to have to choose every time.

Same for me. Only my ASD that is set on landscape mode is the one that I can select for Zoom in preferences. While in a Zoom meeting, I can switch cameras, though.
