Anyone running two displays, how do you like it? Any cons?

No cons for me. Best dual displays setup I have ever used.

Perhaps a dumb question - could a 2019 Macbook Pro 13" retina work with (2) Studio Displays?

I'm fairly sure it couldn't do so at 5k output, but maybe (2) at 4k? I love the brightness of my Studio Display, and would like to order a second ASD to replace my LG 27" monitor. The difference between the 400 nit LG, and the 500 nit ASD is huge to these ageing eyes...

According to Apple specs, the 2019 13" can only output to one external display at up to 6k. So just get an XDR. :)

It can do 2 x at 4K.

Happy to say that I joined the club today.

Purchased at 7pm in the UK on Sunday and delivered at 11am Monday morning. Can't argue with that :)

All setup and working fine with my 2018 mini. I'll stick with this for now and maybe upgrade to a M2 mini in the future.

Also impressed that it just worked out of the box with my work supplied Dell Latitude.

Where did you purchase in the UK with such quick delivery?

Curry’s of all places (online). Normally wouldn’t go near them but figured at least it’s an Apple product so I can just deal with them in case of any issues in the future.

Just taken another look... Seems I got lucky as they appear to be out of stock now.

I would never go for a 4K display, especially at 27", even if it's cheaper since it's a bad experience on macOS since it doesn't scale well at 4K 27". macOS expects a 110 PPI or 220 PPI display. Anything in between is just a bad experience as explained here:

Mac external displays for designers and developers, part 2 Apr 2022

After going 5K with my Studio Display, which I have for two weeks and like the image quality, 4K 27" is a bad option knowing the drawbacks and I will never consider it. 1080p 2x scaling is too big in my opinion and I prefer 2k scaling, which at 5K it does well, but causes performance issues on 4K due to scaling at 5K and downscaling it. I tend to hold on my displays for a long time, which is worth it for me.
You are right, of course, I dont know who I am going to fool. The dell display was not great, espc at 350$. Sometimes you never realise how good something is until it is gone. I will order a new one, delivery i august.

I’m thinking to buy a new Studio Display but my wife also wants to use it with her work supplied Dell Latitude 8540. Do you confirm there is no issues with the Dell and Studio Display? I understand some functions won’t be available but I would be happy if she can use it with her PC.

Works just fine for me. I’m using a Dell Latitude 5480. I’ve just used the thunderbolt cable supplied with the monitor and plugged it directly into the single USB C socket on the laptop.

My laptop is a few years old and it seems to drive the monitor fine. I’ve set the display scaling to 150% and it all looks nice and clear.

I think the only down side is that it’s basically a ‘dumb’ monitor in that the sound and webcam won’t work, but that’s fine for me as I tend to use Bluetooth headphones for calls etc.

I can now add myself as an owner, picked one up yesterday from Bluewater. I had the Inventory Watch app open and throughout the morning, watched as the nearest stores started reporting stock. As soon as they showed at one I was prepared to drive to, I bought it.

It took a couple of reboots for it all to work perfectly. Initially the colours seemed very different from the iMac it's connected to, the new display had a real blue tint. I did the firmware update and checked again but it was all still off. Rebooted again and it's all working as expected.

The camera seems OK, it's nothing like what's been reported. Mind you, after opening it to check how it worked, I'll never use it again so that's an irrelevance to me really.

It's noticeably sharper than the Asus VG289Q it's replacing. I've moved that 4K display to my work laptop and I can't believe how badly Windows 10 handles scaling. It's dreadful, I don't understand how they can do it so badly.

Just need my second display to arrive, along with the Studio Ultra now and then I'll be happy.

Bonus points if anyone can work out what car I've got from the picture ;)

People using a Studio or Mini and 1 x ASD and 1 x Something Else: are you having problems with windows repositioning on wake from sleep? I’m using an 1440p Dell as a secondary monitor (via TB → Displayport) and frequently find that things aren’t quite where I left them when the machine wakes up.

There doesn’t seem to be any particular rhyme or reason to what stays or moves, but it’s really frustrating. My guess is that the two displays wake up at different speeds and as a result macOS first decides to shuffle everything onto the ASD, then it moves some apps (but not all!) back to the Dell when that wakes a second or so later.

Stay looks like a possible workaround but I don’t love the idea of resorting to third party apps to fix basic OS functionality. Plus that seems to be geared towards a fixed set of windows, whereas I just want whatever I previously had open to still be there when the Mac wakes up again.

Presumably if I had 2 x ASDs it would work perfectly as the wake times should be identical (edit: maybe not), but I really don’t need my secondary display to be 5k. If newer 4k displays wake faster and prevent these issues that might be justifiable.

Also, thanks to whoever recommended the Cable Matters TB cable earlier in the thread. It’s working flawlessly for me so far and the 2m length is so much better with a VESA arm. The Apple cable was just about usable, but even with the Studio only slightly to the left of the display the cable was going to be pulled out if I extended the arm forwards even a little.

Audi?

I really want a second ASD, but the way my desk is configured, it's hard to squeeze one in.

Maybe Apple releases a 32" version soon.

On another note, is anyone aware of a 24" or so sized monitor that looks like the ASD and about the same height?

Got my ASD today and did a quick test with my Studio using the ASD and a Dell 27" 2560x1440 screen (so same resolution but non-retina) also using a TB to Displayport Cable and every window is were I left it.

My new setup right now (after moving my computing stuff into a new room 2 months ago, and today setting up the new ASD it's still way too clean here, but no worrys, that will change sooner than later)

You can always set the second ASD in portrait mode with a VESA mount. I can't do duals in landscape so I did one landscape and one portrait.

when you say you can't do duals in landscape, a technical limitation or you don't like it? I'm coming from a 49" dell and finding 2*27" studio displays hard to get used to in landscape :( I was wondering if one in portrait would work but I can't really think of what would work better in portrait mode

I have a feeling Apple will replace the XDR display soon and (hopefully) lower its price. If they lower the price, put a video camera and some speakers in it, then I'll consider that.

I thought about portrait mode. Haven't committed to it yet.

Just got my studio display today and it’s great. One thing I was thinking about - did you ditch your desktop speakers when you got the studio display? I’m impressed with the audio quality of the studio display and I’m thinking of ditching my speakers to declutter and minimize wires. I mostly use my Bose headphones anyways when I’m at my desk. Thoughts?

Yes, I got rid of my speakers. I still have my Blue Yeti X microphone though.

I did not, I will keep my Q350s and SB-1000 just where they are.

The Studio Display speakers are decent for what they are, but no match for what was already on (and under) my desk.

This will absolutely not happen.
