No, both AT&T and Verizon offer significant ($25) monthly discounts for paid-off phones on their family plans.

Are you referring to the Verizon Edge program or prepaid plans? I'm talking about the regular MORE Everything where you pay a monthly fee and share devices under one data cap. Whether you bring in a phone, pay full retail, or get a free subsidied phone, the plans cost the same.

Yeah, but those are prepaid plans. I'm referring to their regular MORE everything plans.

I'm confused about the plans... one of the purpose of a 2 year (24 month) contract is to bind the buyer until the phone is paid off.

If I bring my own phone, why is a contract needed? Shouldn't it just be month to month pre-paid? (the billing can still be done monthly like a regular plan if the customer chooses). Am i missing something?

its in thoery not.

But the carriers have set up the industry the way they wish to do it to maximize their profits. They dont want to give you a discount for bringing your own phone because in THIS particular case, they're going to earn more profit overall from you, than the other guy getting the iPhone as part of his deal

Yeah, most people get confused. The difference between prepaid and regular used to be more pronounced when carriers were still selling talk & text plans by the minute. Prepay required you to buy minutes as you go; regular required you to pay a monthly fee. Now with unlimited talk & text, the lines are sorta of blurred. Now you don't buy minutes, but rather data.

With Prepay, you will not accidentally incur overage charges, which is sort of a plus for most haha.

But you still get more features and perks with their regular plans that you don't get prepaid, such as wifi hotspot and sharing data across multiple devices.

ok, I see, so by signing to a 24 month contract (regardless if you bring your own phone) you are guaranteeing the carrier 24 months of pre-determined revenue.

In exchange for this guarantee revenue stream, the carrier includes special features that aren't available in month to month plans. (or it's an enticement for you to commit to 24 months)

That's absolutely crazy when you consider Samsung targets the full range of prices all the way down to dirt cheap while Apple focuses on the high end.

That's like BMW outselling not just Lexus but the whole Toyota division too! Almost unheard of in business.

Nobody forced Samsung to use Android instead of innovating by giving the consumer choice with their own awesome operating system like iOS. And Apple could have just been lazy and used somebody else's operating system too. But they didn't. They created iOS.

Samsung has their own operating system too now of course, but it's not even as good as Android... let alone iOS. Too little, and way too late. So yeah. Two companies are competing. One is just doing a much better job than the other.

And one is on an upwards trajectory and the other (with a 75% drop in profits from losing the fight with Apple on the high end and cheap Chinese OEMs on the low end) is pretty much crashing down.

If you want Tizen there's only one place to go too... except no one wants Tizen.

Uhhhhh, okay? Really not sure what any of that has to do with Apple's great quarter not being unexpected. So yeah I'm gonna just find the exit and leave cuz something else must be going on that I... uhhh yeah.

The removable battery and SD card doubtless sway a small fraction of buyers. Perhaps so do the handful of waterproof phones. But Apple has such an excellent reputation, refined UI, and expansive app ecosystem that it will still be years before anyone can surpass the experience they offer.

It almost always was the main argument when discussing the pro and cons of the two phones that was used by the Samsung fanboys.

What planet are you on? The gs6 got nothing but amazing reviews from real world people holding the device.

Countless times they used the word premium and from what I saw most people were blown away from the gs6 design and build quality
They get paid for that response

Just YouTube every hands on video of the gs6 and see what they say.this guy said the gist of the launch was not showing good signs in the build and design of the new phones and that's an absolute biased lie.

The phones are getting very well hands on reviews from people!

We get it, you work for Samsung. But sorry, you are on the wrong forum, buddy. People comes here for Apple news (or rumors), we don't care about Samsung, neither do we want to.

I'm assuming being the largest seller is now important and that numbers matter? :D

We all appreciate the achievements :D. It's worth for applause, isn't it? Regardless whether it's important or not, it's irrelevant.

Well put.

Nice. Get wrecked, Samsung. If you want the semi-janky OS, at least get a Motorola. Much nicer phones.

Yeah, numbers matter.

Wouldn't everyone want the iPhone to be waterproof? I'm pretty sure Apple's been intentionally slacking on that.

You tell me.

Market share is not and will never be important to a company when taken alone. What I've always said, what I'll always say.

Now you tell me, how come your ignoring the people in the thread who are saying it's unimportant? You don't have to answer that btw, I already know :D

While Samsung of course are the ones who have not only been accused but also caught for paying Bloggers for favourable articles and also paying forum members for trashing the competition, I'd be careful with accusing members here of continuing that tradition.

The only post I read in this thread was your reply to mine.

Samsung's S6 is clearly the result of their desperate effort to gain their share again. And clearly their taking cues from Apple. Many people here said something very true. Even though blatant copying is pathetic, this just gives us competition and will drive the upcoming 6S to be an even greater upgrade from the current iteration.
