Apple Survey Asks iPhone Users What They Do With Old Power Adapters

I don’t know why Apple thinks everyone has a bunch of power adapters kicking around. I have only ever have 2 power adapters in my life at any one time, the one for my current iPhone and iPad. The old ones are always sold when I resell my old devices.

Valid points in my opinion but consider also that Apple has been selling small USB chargers since the iPod days from the early 2000s.

And many people use third party charging solutions, either wireless or via sockets or via these USB ports. Millions of other electronics have similar ones in their boxes. Often times households just accumulate them over time as devices are passed around and not sold.

i always sell my old phone to a family member or give it to a family member, i include the headphones and power adapter when I do so. Usually i've never used either as I have better versions of both.

I think it's fine to drop them, if they have options that are reasonably pried. And I mean by apple standards, not cheap-android priced junk. Maybe options for different watts so you get what you need. We do need to stop the e-junk that constantly fills up recycle bins. And EarPods. Don't need another pair.

Total Apple spin. They’ll go on stage this fall and tout how they no longer include power adapters because it’s environmentally friendly, but really what’s most important to them is keeping Wall Street happy.

I don’t really mind as I have USB plugs in most receptacles. I’d rather they include a longer cable than a power cube. However, it feels like a “paying more or the same for less scenario” upon hearing it.

I have all of mine still using them:

Toss the EarPods and the charger but keep the cable for the whiners. Get rid of all that extra cardboard and e-waste as soon as possible and don't worry about all those people who have a dozen chargers they never use placed around their rooms. Anyone who can afford a $1000 iPhone can afford a charger if they need it that badly. Oh, alright, give them a $5 coupon towards a charger if that makes them happy. Never mind, they won't use that, either.

I, and I assume most people, sell it with their old phone, therefore we need a new one with whatever phone we upgrade to. Stop being cheap and continue to include the adapter.
Agree completely, HOWEVER... I wouldn’t mind if they included a USB-C to Lightning cable in the box instead. You could use your MacBook charger or any other USB-C one and it makes connecting it to your computer dongle free. And cables always need replacing over the time so it would always be welcome to get one with a new iPhone.

Now they just have to make a new iPhone worth buying...

Personally, I have no problem with Apple excluding the charger from the box, so long as the price of the iPhone is discounted by the retail price of the charger.

I have a drawer full of 5w power adapters. I have been using the iPad adapters to charge my phones before wireless charging. Now that we have wireless charging I use that, or I use the Usb-C to lightening cable with my MacBook.

Good riddance. a. I'm drowning in old USB chargers. b. Most of my charging is done wirelessly on Phone/Watch combo chargers c. other charging is done with multi-outlet USB chargers and various multi-headed cables.

Kindles haven't shipped with chargers for years. no loss at all.

It's a bit rich of them to assume that everyone owns a device (be it a computer or a charger) with USB-C ports... while the USB-A is still most widespread standard.
USB-C has been around for years now, USB-A is dying, clumsy and inconvenient. If you can't afford $20 for a new charger you should be buying a cheap android phone

These aren't equal. Not getting a charging block vs not getting tires warrant different levels of outrage.

Wouldn't the closer example be the removal/upcharge for the spare that used to be included with new car purchase?

Even a spare tire is a necessity if you look at it from many scenarios.

I feel people are looking at it from the perspective that most of them have an Apple device already so they have the chargers. I’m thinking from the point of view of a new user and those users who buy used. Previously you would get a fully functional package, now not. And no, it’s not a $1000 phone, it’s a $399 phone too, that can be bought for $199 as well. How does the charger price look now?

I’m sure Apple will take this further into their entire lineup of products including the Mac and MacBook and the watch.

On the other hand, this also seems to be heading towards port-less iPhones. But, even a wireless charger will need a charging block, and now that becomes an additional overhead for users.

Ultimately, it’s all about making more money while giving lesser and lesser, and if people are happy about their money losing value, more power to Apple!

The reality is a HUGE portion of people (I'm assuming here, but let's be honest with ourselves) have a charger they could use at home if the new device doesn't include it. What's frustrating is that we are continually buying their products, I'm doubtful the price will drop, and they want to take something away. But nobody with power is going to go to wake up in the mornings with a dead, uncharged iPhone because of this. I wish I understood the reasoning more... assuming the knowledge leaks are true.

This just confirms that Apple is considering it. Even they haven’t completely decided yet!
I'm more or less thinking that this is to ease the pain for announcement day. We are "expecting it" now. People will still be trashing the move, and it will surely and ridiculously make brief headline news, but it will be less backlash than a surprise bombshell.

Having children in a split household, power adapters and cables both seem to magically disappear. Although I've recently started holding fast charge options, not having a power adapter with a new phone would be a bit of a loss in our circumstance.

“Lost or misplaced it” seems like the most common one for me, but that’s because I usually don’t use it.

But they should still provide customers with one if they want. If they don’t pack it in the box, pass those savings on to the consumer. If they want an adapter, make it available as an add-on. If this is about reducing electronic waste, that seems like a good solution.
