I absolutely hate the idea that they are killing MagSafe! It was one of the few "real" innovations that Apple have had.
In the 5 years of using Apple laptops, i've probably stacked it over the power cable about 5 times. Thats just once a year, but if i didn't have a MagSafe it would have caused the laptop to go flying. Why remove it? F-A-R-K.
I think the reason for getting rid of MagSafe is that the laptops are getting lighter. The sharp tug of a tripped-over cable used to be enough to snap the MagSafe out of its socket. With an ultralight laptop, that same sharp tug would likely send the laptop flying anyway.

They could reduce the strength of the MagSafe magnetic connection, but then it would come loose more often when there was no emergency. Just sliding the laptop across your desk might cause the MagSafe connector to fall out.

Port necessity. TB X2 minimum (Displays and audio interfaces) Why? because manufactures of TB compatible items have a hard time justifying 2 for daisy chaining without adding hundreds of dollars more. Headphone Jack because ... i use it. 3 or 4 USB-C ports are better than one. The idea of one port for the macbook was in my opinion the STUPIDEST idea apple ever came up with. I hate using hubs unless absolutely necessary. Point me to the survey.

Instead of buying a pair of $300 Beats headphones, you're better off buying a pair of Sennheisers at that price. Beats are pure garbage.. they do fit well with Apple's history of making garbage sounding speakers and headphones, perhaps that's what they're going for?
those are pre-apple.

but again ------->
it's 100% impossible for you to sit in front of me.. in person.. put those headphones on.. and say 'this sound like crap' or 'these sound bad'... impossible.

-----------------
and btw, being such an outspoken anti-fanboy is the same exact thing as being a fanboy.. they go together like peas & carrots..
try being neither.

And if the headphone jack was still there on the iPhone 7, it wouldnt make one damn bit of difference, you'd STILL buy it regardless. What do you care about it being there? A ton of people use it for a reason; because it's perfectly fine and NOT broken. So why are you being an apologist for Apple's stupid decision on trying to fix something that was never broken?

That's the fallacy of your argument. You can still use one if you are so ingrained with it. You can use the new lightning headphones or use a dongle. Why all the bitching about a "problem" that doesn't exist?
Move on.
Or buy a Dell or Lavano or Surface and fade away with the PC in peace. But if you are stuck in the past, that's no reason not to allow Apple to move on.

well, honestly, I don't really use the headphone jack. My audio is routed through a Focusrite into studio monitors - or through TB into my desktop monitor. I do use BT headphones sometimes.

The SD card I would miss. I cannot seem to get images to transfer as quickly over Wifi from my camera. If that were easier, I could deal.

HDMI is something I do not use often, but absolutely love when I need it.

I have a pair that I got with my 2015 MacBook this summer, and they're some of the worse headphones I've ever used, I can't believe they cost $300. I have some no name Bluetooth headphones from Amazon they sound better, and they were only $50. Hell wired Skullcandy Ink'd ($15-20) sound better than Beats. They have a horrible frequency response
lol. ok.
whatever you say

You know what the problem is? You're arrogant and smug (and some others like you have the same toxic apologist attitude). You don't give a damn if so many other people want to still use the headphone jack, EVEN IF it has no affect on you at all.

Do you have ANY idea of how insulting you are to basically everyone?

I've got the Logitech Z906 speaker system and I use the headphone jacks optical out on my Macbook Pro to get a digital connection with my speakers and 5.1 sound when I'm watching movies. So losing the jack would be a bit of a blow for me. :(

I'm more concerned about the loss of the SD card slot than headphone jack (altho that sucks too). Every DSLR today has an SD card. I can pop it out, slide it into my Mac, and quickly download huge amounts of data. Any other solution is going to be more cumbersome and require additional hardware (cables and/or adapters). Why, Apple? Why?

eh for my computer I liked to have a wired headphone jack only because i do video editing and it can get annoying with the slight delay...

for the SD card, i would like to have it not necessity as those are cheap and i keep a few in the different bags i use...

This would be the only reason I'd want to keep that port onboard.

Otherwise, it could really vanish from the portable line and I wouldn't even notice. Now the iMac is a different story. If they took it from there that'd be going to far.

Oh because I don't agree with your fallacy and explained how you are wrong. Oh yes that's toxic.
We must all agree with you or be toxic.

What's more interesting is the questioning about whether I need to use a MacBook Pro anymore after answering YES to owning iPad Pro. I answered honestly, my Mac is gathering dust and I don't need it now I have the super computer with a gorgeous touch display.

I wonder if they are seriously considering killing the Mac off? That would be courageous and very forward thinking.

LOL, so true considering they still charge $4,000 for a 3 year old Mac Pro that even then had 2 year GPU tech inside it. That's what Apple needs to fix... NOT the headphone jack that virtually everyone uses. WTF is wrong with Apple?

Apple realised that selling gadgets & toys makes a lot more money than producing decent computers for engineers and media creators...

Q-6

Right out of college I bought an Apple IIe in 1983. Bought my first of dozens of Macs in January 1985. (I have a small business).
When Apple (and by Apple I mean Yves) decided that the desktop iMac had to be thinner so they removed the SuperDrive, that's when I asked myself WTF? Have been waiting a long time for a new MacBook Pro. Probably going to be an HP running Windows 10.

Good thing we don't get sex from Apple. I kind need the port there. If there isn't somewhere to stick the device in, it isn't quite as much fun.

I know it's analog and it's been around for thousands of years, but I'm pretty sure it's not outdated tech.

How does apple not understand the music industry is run on Macs? There's no respectable sound engineer or mixer that would honestly mix anything on wireless headphones. Most won't even touch headphones when mastering

Apples profit from audio enthusiasts has to be close to zero

No, because you're wrong. Just accept it that you're an apologist and move on with your life. What, you think because you dont need the headphone jack, nobody else does?

Get outta here.
You STILL don't get it. You can still use your precious 3.5 jack. On the iPhone 7 or on your Victotolla.

And please don't tell people to leave a public forum like you are taking your ball away.

We all have opinions. Mine is as valid as yours. Well mine more. But anyway, I won't respond to you people any further. It's pointless.
