Why? Are you forced to buy it?
No. But it just gives me (and millions more) a reason to get a Dell or Thinkpad or HP instead. If Apple would just make their prices reasonable, instead of thinking they are the Ferrari of computers, then millions more would buy a Mac.

I am not bothered by people buying it - I am bothered by Apple selling it. Way too expensive, and there are not a lot of configurations.

More configurations equal a nightmare for support issues. Maybe that is why Apple gets great ratings for it's support department!

IF you don't own a Mac why are you defending it/Apple? Don't get me wrong I like the Mac but the fact is they are overpriced and underpowered.

There are multitouch addons for PCs if you want it that bad, and they cost only like $40 but I still laugh at those gimmick gestures.

If you find value in it why haven't you bought it yet, and how come you think it is value?

Who said it was a value? Something has to be a value for me to buy it?

What i do find value in is all the little touches macs have, the multitiouch (i like it so piss off), the unibody construction, the MAGSAFE!!!, etc etc.

I dont have one yet because I cant afford it yet. Thats the nice thing about life, you can save up for what you want. A PC just isnt an option for me anymore. I'm done with Windows and Im done with plastic laptops that break.

First, those gimmicks are quite useful. You obviously never used it before, while into a rush and working to meet your deadlines. AWESOME I say.

Second, you just here bitching about a computer, that you don't own, and don't expect to buy. Answer this two simples questions: Why are you on this forum and what are you doing to contribute to this community?

You don't even own a Mac? what the heck....? At least I own a Mac.

And who cares about multitouch? Has to be the most useless gimmick ever.

So first you bash him for proclaiming Mac as good computers. Then you bash him for not owning a Mac and you do. WTF?

I am not bothered by people buying it - I am bothered by Apple selling it. Way too expensive, and there are not a lot of configurations.

That's one of the nice things about capitalism. Don't want it? Don't buy it. Apple could sell the 13" Macbook for $2000 if they wanted and you couldn't do anything about it. Apparently enough people think Mac laptops are worth the price of entry because Mac still has the same pricing structure as always. All I'm hearing is "waaa I want the computer to be cheaper so I'll buy it." That probably won't happen, Apple doesn't care and they'll still be in business whether you buy it or not.

Ah and here it is. So what YOU think is the truth

Yes I dont own a mac, why is that a problem for you?

I love multitouch, I first fell in love with two finger scrolling and it has only gotten more useful to me from there.

Dont dictate to me what i find value in.

"but... my opinion is the only one that matters!!"

Seriously, I'm not all that surprised with the CR results. I'm a relatively new switcher (my little brother gave me his old G3 500MHz iBook in 2005 when I was in the hospital). For a computer that supposedly has a 73% failure rate, it's still working pretty well, yeah, I still have her so I can tinker with some older OS9 games.

Yes, they're more expensive than Dells/Asus/etc, but as the tech girl for my family and friends, I can tell you I'm tired of working on Dell and Toshiba laptops. Out of the household's (my girlfriend and I's) Macs, we've had 1 failure (Late 06 iMac logic board failed, and was replaced under AC) out of 6 (9 if you count our respective parents' macs as well). That's pretty damn good in my opinion, but at the end of the day, it's my opinion.

I can say that since going to Macs, I'm finding myself having more time for work and play, I'm not having to tinker to replace video cards, fans, etc. That helped pay for my purchases.

Who said it was a value? Something has to be a value for me to buy it?
If you really think it is value, then buy it. Are you writing on a Windows PC? I am writing on a Mac, at least I actually went out and bought one (and I really like it, btw).

What i do find value in is all the little touches macs have, the multitiouch (i like it so piss off), the unibody construction, the MAGSAFE!!!, etc etc.

Dell's (and other PC notebooks) have mult-touch (see other post), unibody is useless (oh it looks pretty), Magsafe? lol... wth.

I dont have one yet because I cant afford it yet. Thats the nice thing about life, you can save up for what you want. A PC just isnt an option for me anymore. I'm done with Windows and Im done with plastic laptops that break.
Can't afford it? See what I am saying? There is no reason you shouldn't be able to afford it - Apple should be somewhat affordable, not the outrageous prices Apple makes you pay. If you are tired of Windows, switch to Linux.

You don't even own a Mac? what the heck....? At least I own a Mac.

I get that you're never going to buy a mac notebook. That's you choice and privilege. I personally think that Dells are junk and will never buy one again. But I've never gone onto a Dell forum, (I assume they exist) to slate them. I also am not a big fan of the MBA, but again I don't go into the MBA section of this site and slag them off. You not only slate the macbooks, but you also imply that anyone who buys one, and happens to be happy with their purchase is stupid. I just don't see the point of doing it, unless it is to annoy.

No. But it just gives me (and millions more) a reason to get a Dell or Thinkpad or HP instead. If Apple would just make their prices reasonable, instead of thinking they are the Ferrari of computers, then millions more would buy a Mac.

So your proposed solution is to talk people out of buying Macs?

I swear to @#$%&* god, man, I'm trying to follow your logic but it's reminding me of the little sing-along bouncing ball.

yes except with apple you're paying a huge premium for "superior hardware" that "just works". Just look at the failure rate of the first guy I posted. when you pay a premium, you expect a product that "just works"

LOL like BMWs right??? Hahaha good luck on the reliability of those...

You FAIL.

Apple does just work, so these people must just be completely terrible users that drop it and slam it all the time. Consumer Reports doesn't lie and neither does my experience.

And this is why Apple will never get more than 3% of the market share.

I have never implied anyone who owns a MacBook/Pro is stupid. Heck if I had $2500 to spend on a notebook (Laptop Hunters style) I'd definitely get a MBP.

I'm sorry but it seems like all you do on this site is lead a crusade against the "fanboys". Why?
Kinda makes him a fanboy too, don't you think?

I would. I've seen these kinds of stats from CR for over 10 years now and they confirm what I see in my every day life. I work in a place with a mix of Macs and PCs. The PCs fail far more frequently than the Macs.
Just to clarify, I meant:

is it normal that EVERY PRODUCT you own is defective? I am a relatively new switcher and I have had no problems with my iPhone, Macbook pro, keyboard or mouse. Either you are tinkering with your stuff, you don' take care of them, or your just a snob who wants to smear the product image of apple.

Apple has PR flacks trolling the Internet message boards and submitting posts to support or at least neutrallize negative feedback on Apple products. If you find yourself dealing with a poster on a message board who never backs down or always has an answer/comeback that spins a problem in favor of Apple-- you've caught yourself a PR flack.
Possible, but I've seen the reverse occur too. (Of course this is just from my experience.)

Anti-Apple PR flacks are trolling the Internet message boards and submitting posts to support or at least neutrallize positive feedback on Apple products. If you find yourself dealing with a poster on a message board who never backs down or always has an answer/comeback that spins a problem against Apple-- you've caught yourself an Anti-Apple PR flack.

Says who? You? Lol. Ferrari is in the business of selling nice, expensive cars. Apple is in the business of selling nice, expensive computers. Ferrari doesn't want to be Honda and Apple doesn't want to be Dell, HP or anyone else. Get it yet?

You know, im getting tired of your proclaiming crap. The unibody is rock solid, its not about how it looks (which just happens to be amazing).

After dealing with multiple laptops power jacks breaking, magsafes are amazing to me.

What you think your better than me because you can afford to go out and buy a mac outright? I dont have the funds to even go out and PC right now if I wanted. I'm saving for what I want.

He's saying he sees value in something he has never experienced.

So bloody what, at least they are offering an alternative to Windows, you must be one of those dudes who wants Windows to have 100 percent with no alternatives.

My old iBook almost had its power connector break because of someone accidentally pulling it. Our PC notebook's power connector stopped working one day (it looks like it's broken somehow), although I don't know how.

Troll Alert!!!

Interesting that both "iwantitthatway" and "bmwfan" both joined in apr 2009. TROLL!!!! Hey BMWFAN, you know you can get a Japanese car for WAY less and it will do everything that over priced can of kraut does, right? hahahahahaah Or should I call you IWANTITTHATWAY - I bet you do. You don't think Toshiba laptops or any of the other don't have their share of defects? I've had a MacBook Pro for 2.5 years and it works like the day I bought it. I would pay more, I don't care - I won't use a piece of crap like I did for my first 10 years of computing and now I've saved a ton of money and far less headaches by having one great computer for a long time. ARN check those two IP#, I bet there the same.:D:apple:

Says who? You? Lol. Ferrari is in the business of selling nice, expensive cars. Apple is in the business of selling nice, expensive computers. Ferrari doesn't want to be Honda and Apple doesn't want to be Dell, HP or anyone else. Get it yet?
Actually, it's the opposite. PCs are like buying a Ferrari for the price of an 87 Toyota Camry, buying a Mac is like paying Ferrari prices for a crappy Ford.

How can Apple be like Ferrari when they have underpowered hardware?

He's saying he sees value in something he has never experienced.

Oh so you fill in my life story for me do you? I fell in love with OSX TIGER when I got to live with my aunts 2004 powerbook g4 for two weeks two years ago. Then my uncle bought a macbook pro with leopard and I fell even harder.

I love OSX and windows bothers me now.

Dont tell me ive never experienced a mac.

8.1% during that quarter, but in the bigger picture, they still make up less than 5% of the market. Does this include stand-alone Windows sells as well?
