Lol the usall Trollnes continues. What you guys expect theres no way that they could get 10 hrs batter life if they used a full OSX etc. Second Seriously a Camera what do u wanna do say oh wait let me take my 10" ipad and take a picture this is more set to fit as Steve said to the notbook users over time it will get better etc.

I am definitely underwhelmed. It can't replace my MB and it can't replace my iPhone. That, of course, means that I won't be buying that.

I was hoping for an OS4 announcement with some Multitasking news.

For those that hate this, there are plenty of Android tablets due. :D

You forgot what about when you are taking a crap.
Really your digging here.

Has anyone noticed all the creepy pictures they used showing everybody slouching in chairs to try to use this? Because this is not a thumb-type device, think about the practical reality of using this as a "casual" device. You sit in a regular chair or recliner (as I am now) with your legs straight out. How do you plan to hold this thing? With an iPhone/iPod, you can easily hold with one hand and use. With this device, it is so big that you will not be able to use it comfortably in a chair without trying to prop your legs up.

Think about it in bed. I use the iPhone in bed most nights to read RSS feeds and watch some TV shows. I am honestly trying to think how I would hold this.

How about casual use in the kitchen? You basically will have to be standing over this thing to type as it slides across the counter. Maybe they should have considered rubber backing to help prevent this.

I agree that the keyboard/dock looks pretty cool. But, for a casual device - are you really going to pop out your keyboard and dock to use?

As I said in an earlier post, i see this as a niche device. I think it is too expensive for casual users in any big numbers. Remember - millions of us have already invested in an iPhone or iPod and also already have a laptop or PC. Apple is assuming that people will shell out another $500+ to add this into a very narrow usage pattern. I am sorry - I do not see it.

Wow

So, we now have a giant iPod touch, eh iPad, with which you cannot make a phone call OR photos (ok, I have a better and cheaper camera for that). We can dock it and type but, oh, no Word (OK, Pages, but still), no Endnote etc. As long as this needs special versions of each program its useless as a computer.

No word on updates on the real computers, no nothing. Pretty disappointing in my view.:(

I know, ita not meant as a computer - but why than iWork? And to look at the internet - JUST GIVE US A DECENT MBA FINALLY

few things missing me thinks

iGPS, iSight

Another fanboy here but not impressed, I don't see any key markets it will swoon too other than people buy it because they can?

Also if it was VOIP/Phone enabled it may look like this has become a reality <http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9IUCGcjyoqk&feature=related>

The only thing innovative about this is that Apple found a way to sell a crippled netbook and make people pay extra for the keyboard and lid.

They're charging $130 to add a 3G antennae that is standard on smartphones? Seems almost criminal :/

If the basic models included 3G, rather than as a $130 addon, I'd be a lot more partial.

And I can't believe there's no camera, when the iPhones have them and, heck, $299 Asus Eee PC Netbooks have them (along with 250 GB hard drives).

Also, I saw no mention of GPS?

I hate to be a skeptic...but if it's going to cost upwards of $700, I want, bare minimum, the same featureset as my iPhone. 0_o

Guess I'll be getting rev. B.

Finally - For Non-Techies!!!

I can now finally get my older parents a computer that isn't complicated or need personal support. I love the fact I can choose between 3G and Wi-fi versions, I don't need the 3G while at home and don't plan to use it on the road.

One obvious negative for me: Screen size, I want something greater than 20" so it can be posted on a wall and seen from afar. Next year I guess.

One obvious plus: As demo'd with iWorks, great potential for new apps that run on both iPads and Macs.

New tier of computers: Agree. The other tablets I've seen are just barely smoke and mirrors over Windows (can't comment about other OSes). Though it ties you even more to the Apple platform, this is the type of interface I want to see in a Phone or Tablet. Hopefully other manufacturers get the point and start deploying a Google Chrome OS tablet too.

It's just a gimmick. That's all it is. They will still sell a ton of them but I know I won't be buying one of these.

Can anyone think of any iPhone game that would control awkwardly when play on the large screen of iPad?

Some thoughts...

$499 is a decent price for the 16gig model, but i don't get why they have to charge so much for getting the 3g feature. i think that's just a ripoff. as for the 3g plan - they should have offered something where if you already have an iphone plan, then you could just swap sim cards and use that instead. otherwise what's the point of paying for the unlimited plan twice?

two cameras (front + back) with ichat would have been nice, and so would a flash player for the browser.

also, what's up with the inch thick border around it? guess they had to have it to fit their hardware inside of it...

Think they've gotten a little overboard calling the thing "Magical"?

I can see this as a nice netbook killer though.

I was thinking about getting a netbook for a while but i wanted to wait for the keynote today. Now i know im not going to bother with the iPad. I was expecting something more than a huge ipod touch.

Sigh.

This was a little like finding out there's no Santa Clause...

...and watching Steve do this after the iPhone was a little like watching Sean Connery do "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen".

I will, sadly, take a pass on this new tech, and hope for MBP revs soon.

Ah. What a dream

It was exactly as I predicted. Just wanted to rub that in..Makes me feel big or something. Don´t worry all u disapointed folks - you will soon see that this is a thing that you need.
