These comments remind me of the reactions to the original iPod. Go back and find that thread, it's hilarious. We were all expecting a $800-1000 device, with a possibility of a $200 subsidy with contract, and steve bends AT&T to its will. Everyone still complains.

I for one will be getting a 64 GB one (without 3G) to replace my five-year old Powerbook. Camera for iChat and haptic feedback on the keyboard would have been cool, but I can live without. Can't wait.

BTW, they mentioned that you can connect it up to projectors for Keynote. Anybody know how this is done? Dock-to-VGA adaptor or some such? This a key needed feature for me.

I think it's an interesting device - but for me, personally - I have no interest.

I have a macbook pro if I want portable computing - and it has a physical keyboard with great specs and the ability to edit video.

I have a Kindle 2 which I love for reading and e-ink is far superior

I have an iPhone 3GS which allows me to do pretty much all I need inbetween + has full mobility.

the iPad is too big (in my opinion) to carry around (like on the subway) and heavy compared to the Kindle.

If I want to watch a movie - I don't need an iPad with a big screen while commuting or on a plane - laptop and/or 3gs is more than fine

If I want to type a lot - I want a physical keyboard (not one that I have to dock or have separate defeating the purpose of having a iPad in the first place

There are so many reasons that the iPad doesn't appeal to me, personally. But I am sure it will be quite popular on college campuses.

Today wasn't anything REVOLUTIONARY - just evolutionary

i agree, but i'm sure a lot of people who don't have a notebook will consider this

How so? Please be specific. Personally, it seems like a fantastic CONSUMER product. I can totally see myself taking this instead of my laptop on many trips.

Not me... I do the same work when I travel as I do at home. I don't need another thing to port around when I am going to have my laptop ANYWAY.

It's basically a big screen iPod Touch... It's cute and I'm sure a lot of kids are going to love it, but CAN WE PLEASE GET A MACBOOK PRO 17" UPDATE? PLEASE? The current one is BARELY faster than my 3 1/2 year old machine!

"Support for 1024 x 768 with Dock Connector to VGA adapter; 576p and 480p with Apple Composite A/V Cable, 576i and 480i with Apple Composite A/V Cable"

So it can't output 720p to a big screen? It doesn't even replace the AppleTV then. Sigh.

Where is...

The camera(s)
A true e-ink/paper mode
Stylus for taking notes or marking up books
external storage support
wireless synching
oled screen

Again, Apple doesn't give you what you want, they give you what they tell you to want.

And 64GB to start? Really? Is this 2009? Lemme check my calendar.

e-ink paper mode eh? So it should have some new kind of display that doesn't exist?

Stylus?.. really, you thought it was going to have a stylus? If you want a stylus hop on eBay and buy a Palm V.

oled screen: would double the price and my understanding is that no one is really making 10" oleds yet.

64GB to start: No moving parts dude. You want a real hard drive in it?

No revolutionary feature in the device. Probably will end up along the HiFi.

Also no other announcements for iPhone, iPhone OS 4.0, MacBook and MacBook Pro updates. Possibly Apple's darkest day?:(

What was the point of that?

If you already have an iPhone and a laptop this is just a pointless device.

It looks lovely and I'm sure what it does, it does very, very well. But really was there anything on display there that couldn't be done on an iPhone?

And as for iWork and Pages being on it..... who cares? My £400 laptop runs Office with a bigger screen and a proper keyboard.

Huge own goal there Mr. Jobs. I'm suspecting Newton levels of failure with this thing.

How about disk navigation? With iWork on it there must be away to save/view files. One of the things I dislike about the iPhone is the inability to save certain things to it while on the road.

Whoooooooooooo, Yeah, Great, nah kidding, its a piece of crap.

Its just a GIANT iPod Touch, ie another rehash of 3 year old technology. What happened to the Apple who used to innovate?

As predicted by me, its a MAJOR FAIL, the only saving grace is the price point although in the UK its gonna still be over-priced.

Jobs, pack your bags and turn the lights off when you leave.

Yeah when you get the 3G option. Gee I wonder ATT or Verizon may knock off $400 to may the 64GB to $230 or $330. I'm buying it's more useful than the iPod Touch, I say that! :D

Lots of people complained about Chrome OS when it was announced for being too basic and now we have people touting the fact that this is for people who want "just the internet".

Amazing.

A Home Run!!!!

I am definitely buying one of these. I had two things on my "tech toy" list....an iPhone and a digital picture frame. This is both...and a LOT more.

The price is right
The functionality is awesome
The plan pricing for 3G are right
The look is right

Goodby Kindle....RIP

They are gonna sell a ton of these!!!! OH YEA!!!!

:apple::D

Well think about this... less battery and a glossy screen and heavier than an ebook reader - with more expensive books. Fail.

Can't do flash limited browsing experience and more expensive than a netbook with more power. fail.

can't' be put in a pocket, ipod touch effectively has the same res on existing iphone apps. Fail.

This machine isn't even a jack of all trades and still manages to be master of none - I can't see any technologists thinking this device is worth having... maybe some fashionistas. That said,it's early and I will watch the stream - maybe my opinions will change - I doubt it though at this point. The no flash / limited browsing experience really ruins the device for me.

It seems there is a general consensus on trading floor....AAPL up over 1% so it will sell.
I am :mad::mad: because no update of MBP and for iPad its just not for me. Good price tho but still need front camera and iChat in it that for sure. At least I know that new iPhone wont have camera neither.

Custom processors for all products?

Will Apple develop custom processors for all of their products?

I'm interested to see the performance gains from using the A4 chip.

I have to admit I am disappointed.

I was hoping that the Applet Tablet would be a like a Macbook Air with active tablet screen that works with a stylus pen.

I wanted at least the ability to install programs like Photoshop.

Instead we got a gloried iPhone with more multimedia capabilities.

I guess I better turn to HP or Fujitsu for my dream tablet.

There's a lot of terrified reactionary astro-turfing going on here right now but regardless anyone who can't understand why this will sell half a billion units in the next five years fails to understand the technical needs and capabilities of a billion everyday people who just want to use the internet.

Apple just released the first Model T Ford of the internet Age.

But no Flash will make a surfer like me take a long pause. Too many sites on my iPod Touch are useless due to lack of flash.

How has the "tide changed?" $829, no camera, crippled OS, poor resolution, no simultaneous apps, no ports... and a bezel bigger than the Great Wall of China. Tide seems pretty much the same to me...

ouch, you're summary is what were my first thoughts as well. I'm gonna thinkk hard about this for 90 days before I order one.

Mostly the lack of a camera, the high price and that ugly becel turn me off. I wish apple would make devices a tiny bit thicker but without those becels. they have them in every device....

and then of course: no stylus. iwork and all other software seems great though.
