Printing in iWork

What I would like to know is how you are supposed to print documents created in the iPad version of iWorks? Do you need the full iWorks suite on your Mac? Is there going to be a tool for your Mac that then lets you print the documents or does it only work if you have a printer that's WiFi/Bluetooth enabled?

Okay, so it's a big iPhone.

That being said, it might just get me to buy two new pieces of Apple hardware.

Right now I have a 2008 MacBook Pro 15". I need something with more oomph, so I have been waiting for the Quad-Core MacBook Pro to arrive. With the changes in the input/output options on the unibody 15" model, and the fact I expect a QC will need some extra cooling, I was planning to move to a 17" model and getting either a 30" ACD or the new Dell 27" (I have a Dell 24" right now, but want something with more real estate).

But really, the only time I take my MBP with me is to watch movies, perform email and surf the web. So now I will be carrying around something larger and heavier than what I do now and will spend north of $4000 (with the monitor).

So I am now thinking the iPad might work for my "portable" which would allow me to get a QC 27" iMac. I save $1000 over the 17" MBP+LCD and I have something much lighter for when I travel...

What would you use a camera for?

I see so many posts about it is "teh failz" for not having a camera. Just interested to know what you would use a camera on this for? I just think it would look goofy holding up one of these to take a pic. And doesn't everyone have a camera on their cellphone these days? Just curious...

What they didn't tell you is how much it will cost to fix the screen when it shatters. Not to mention the fortress of solitude you have to put around it to keep it safe. Probably end up the same size as the macbook.

That is the biggest problem I see. A device like this is very hard to travel with. So it will end up being a device you keep at home. Which is fine for general web browsing I suppose. But I am not sure what device I would replace to use this.

Yawn.:( I super-sized iPod Touch. I was expecting something more breakthrough than that.
There is so much more that this could become, so I'm hoping Apple keeps adding features like a front facing video camera for conferencing.

Bag of fail. All I have to say about that. The UI looks exactly like the iPhone's, they didn't even change the "Slide To Lock" function. Then they slightly changed the home screen.

I give it strong sales from you people for about a month, and then sales dying down into nothing as the "coolness" and novelty wear off.

google 'macprotouch' to find some ideas id love to have seen (sorry, i cant advertise this blog)

camera for ichat that can be flipped over to be used as a photo camera
screen that responds to the variety and pressure of a brush stroke
home page icons that rotate as i rotate the iPad. How could they miss this small important interface feature AGAIN!
honestly id have preferred a completly new design that allows me to multitask. YES, multitask!
And actually be able to do work rather than do a spreadsheet.
USB ports rather than a dock peripheral.........terrible.

So many opportunities missed. I'm underwhelmed.

This is the most important slide in the presentation:
[*]

It is a device to drive content and make Apple some more money. There is nothing new here bar the touch based iWork and a keyboard dock. Its a big iPod Touch with a lot missing. Nothing exciting or revolutionary. All a bit dull really.

They're really starting to be the next Microsoft... finding ways to make money by releasing things that don't need to exist

Wow....just wow

After all these years, after all the dreaming and hoping of this tablet, after all the billions of dollars of profit Apple has made from us....this is what we get???

This is the biggest failure and disappointed to come from Apple in all its history.

An iPod Touch with a big screen, book store, and 3G connection.

You gotta be kidding me.

I am more interested in the next iPhone which I imagine will have an Apple A4 or similar processor.

Agreed. Now that Apple's acquisition of PA Semi is obviously paying dividends, Apple silicon will definitely be going in to the next iteration of the iPhone, and that interests me far more than a super-sized iPod Touch.

If Apple had announced a Book Store similar to the App Store where Authors could submit their own novels without being attached to a major publisher, that would be revolutionary. Of course it would also be an absolute nightmare for Apple in terms of the volume of crap which would be submitted and the censorship issues which would inevitably arise. So we'll probably never see anything like that on the iPad/iPhone/iTouch...

As it stands, I hope major publishers have a plan-B for saving their dying industry, because the iPad certainly doesn't seem to be the miracle they've been waiting for.

The evolution continues

I always wanted an iPod Touch. The iPod Nano is a slick devise which I use listening to pod casts. The advantage of the iPad, Touch, iPhone is all of the applications available. Now there will be many more. All of the Apple related web sites now cover apps for the iPhone etc.

I have a Kindle 2 which I love for reading and e-ink is far superior

Agree e-ink is fantastic for reading, and I'm a little surprised about the LCD, but just the same I don't think we can definitively say e-ink is superior until we see the iPad, or at least hear reviews from people who have seen in. I'm sure Apple is keenly aware with the problems LCD presents with book reading, so we have to see if they did something to the screen to make it easy on the eyes for long term reading.

$499 is not "too expensive" IMO, but 32GB should've been the base instead of 16GB. I know someone here is going to be all, "16GB IS FINE FOR WHAT I DO, IT'S MORE SPACE THAN ANYONE COULD POSSIBLY NEED", but realistically, it's not a lot of space, especially for what Apple advertises. Games, music, photos, movies/videos, apps, etc. all take up space pretty quickly.

It looks a lovely device, but I'm not screaming for it. I'm still waiting for an iPhone, iPod, iPad whichever to do iChat and I really want Flash. I sold my Macbook Air and plan to buy the next gen.

Was kinda hoping it wasn't all ipad

Kinda bummed, no new macbook pros?, ilife?, This iwork doesn't seem to be iwork 2010, just a tablet version. I was hoping for something I could get today, not this summer.

I knew it wasn't gonna be anything else when the apple store didn't go down. I was saving up money for something, but not 90 days. Oh well...

I cannot believe some of the whining, like Apple told YOU what you were getting and didn't deliver. How can anyone get upset over a rumor that didn't come true... anyone complaining this isn't the "tablet" they expected, pull your damn tampon out and stop your bitching...

You forgot what about when you are taking a crap.
Really your digging here.

No - I am talking about reality here. It is not just about specs, cool factor, the look, etc... It is about how do you really plan to use this in your real life - as you stand, sit, lie down, etc.....? And yes - when you sit on the toilet. Same issue as a chair. It will work in certain applications and for certain people. But, I personally would not pay for this on top of my iPhone (which I generally love) and my mediocre (but $400) Asus netbook.

So....

who is the target audience exactly?

Desktop- Stationary, but more power and unlimited expandibility with bigger screens and storage up to 6tb

Laptops- Mobile, fairly powerful... moderate expansion storage up to 1tb

Netbooks-- very mobile, small and light... Enough power... storage up to 320gb

Smartphones- extremely mobile, can fit in pocket... memory up to 32gb... can make calls and type short emails and docks

SO where in that is the target???

I dunno about this thing... it is like the iPod touch's creepy uncle...

Maybe I would have been more impressed if I hadn't followed all of the rumors ahead of time.
