I think its more the thought that "my current phone is working perfectly fine and there is not enough reason to spend $750+". Headphone jack and home button are not an issue for the vast majority of people.
Oh but I think it is. Why do people think their current phone does everything they need? Because it has a headphone jack and Touch ID home button. Face ID is not a reason to upgrade. The lust people on this and other forums had for a "bezel-less screen" doesn't matter to 90% of people.
I only know 2 people that have an X style phone. No one else wants to give up the headphone jack or Touch ID home button. Also, point 3 is the price. $750 for a 6/7/8 Plus style phone with 256GB storage, Touch ID home button and a headphone jack would sell. I think it would outsell the XR.

Wow. Smacks of desperation a little, not a good look Apple. IMHO.

If they sent me such an e-mail I would likely feel compelled to write them a lengthly response, lol.

Give it free of cost to all the iPhone owners who had to upgrade instead of just changing to a new battery - then you will be an honest, consumer friendly company.

You know, the company with "Courage"!

1. I'm pretty sure the #1 reason people won't upgrade from a 6/s/6+/s is the headphone jack.
2. People don't want to upgrade from 7 or 8 series because of a lack of home button/hate for the notch.
3. And to top it off, this series of phones is more expensive than most people are willing to pay.

It was clear, to me at least, that sales weren't going to be what they expect, because they don't understand their customers. If they did they would understand those 3 points.

There should be 5 models of iPhone, each one different, but all with 256GB storage. Storage as the differentiator is so 10 years ago. No one buys phones because they'll get more storage. It's an additional though AFTER choosing to upgrade.

The iPhones they need are; one small 5 like with Touch ID and headphone jack, one 6/7/8 with Touch ID and Headphone jack, one 6/7/8 Plus size with Touch ID and headphone jack, and their pet project notch phone in two sizes without a headpone jack. This is what their customers want. Just like no one wanted that stupid Mac Pro or the $500 emoji bar on laptops.

I agree with you! I am quite happy with my 5c, as it does what I want it to do, and headphone jack interfaces well with my noise-cancelling headphones, and my vehicle. Or the three stereo systems around my house.

Perhaps the younger crowd doesn't mind about the forced wireless options out there. I have money invested in yesterday's tech that still works quite well for me. The 5c can Airplay among other useful things. If I need more power or screen, I can turn it into a hotspot and use my laptop or iPad.

If my 5c dies, I will look for another one, or perhaps a 6. I don't want dongles, or other little pieces to keep track of. I equate keeping track of the wireless ear buds with trying to keep track of some small Lego pieces. I want to grab my phone and go.

There is no clead distinction anymore between CONSUMER and PRO models, like steve introduced. But it could be SO simple really...

All of their arguments to upgrade sounded good to me until I reached the part about Face ID. I can honestly say I don't want that. Losing the headphone jack to gain water resistance was an ok trade. Losing Touch ID is not appealing.

I agree. Apple definitely do itself any favors by removing a jack the entire world already had a cable for and charging insane amounts for their devices. I get all the reasons people have sticking up for Apple but obviously the results are in, it wasn't the right call.

I hear you. The words "you need an adapter" should be synonymous with "we didn't get it right."
Could you imagine if, for example, Ford's 2019 cars all needed an adapter to fuel pump nozzles? "We know the industry will never adapt to our proprietary Ford Lighting Fuel nozzle connector, but we've been using the same fuel pump nozzle for over 100 years and felt that it was time to make a change." Not a single person would call that courage.

I wanted to trade-in my 7 for Xr in November last year at Apple official premium reseller (we don't have Apple stores in my country) and they wanted to give me 200€ for it so I said nah. If they offered 350€ I would switch.

I wonder whether they will do this promotion through official premium resellers though (for example they offered 29€ for battery replacement).

This is all right on target. And I predict that Apple will NEVER get it.

My wife has an SE that really needs to be replaced. She dropped it in a cup of coffee over a year ago and it survived, but had a few side effects. She doesn't want a bigger phone, and she doesn't want a more expensive phone.

Apple is a big echo chamber that is out of touch with any customers that don't fit into that chamber. Most companies look at their different customers and have products that reach each of the customer sets. Apple has so many product lines they've just boxed out and run away. Mac Mini, iPhone SE, etc. They sometimes eventually come out with a follow on, but by then they've lost half the customers that wanted... like the Mini.

Not want to fire against apple (no need for that, happening enough as is) but they are such a poor value like never before! :(

Agreed. The difference before was there weren't very many competitive phones on the market. Today, there are many good high and mid-range phone (regardless that they're Android).

To be fair does anybody make a flagship phone with a 4 inch screen these days?

So the whole "privacy" smoke only applies to third party companies, buying "premium" so you can spam with these hilarious "trade-ins" is totally wanted by the Apple customer.

Damn Apple, you know us so well!

Or more powerful internals for that matter.
Exactly. I DID try some games just to see how they would run and not once did I encounter a hiccup or anything negatively impacting performance. Phones are 80's supercomputer-fast these days. Companies just keep pushing the envelope so people can find reasons to upgrade. It's the car industry all over again.

Only when they return the Touch ID sensor, remove the notch, get rid of the stupid lcd screens, and, finally, bring down the prices as they were before the last year's excesses. Then we'll talk. Until that happens I'll keep my 6s.
