Microsoft: "Today, we would like to announce retail availability of Win..."

Apple: "Yo Ballmer, I'm really happy for you, I'mma let you finish, but we have the best operating system launch of the year."

Obnoxious and smug.

:D

Lots of windows fans here....

Typical. Here is my bitch:

Why do windows users, roughly 90% of the market share, insist on proclaiming that us Mac users, or 10% respectively, are the blind, arrogant followers of the great evil empire that is Apple?

i had a windows guy see me with my laptop the other day and he walked up to me and literally berated me for 'drinking the kool-aid'. Love that, and told me how smug mac users are!

So much energy the 90% spend to rain on the 10%.

There are so many mac haters on this forum right now. WTF? Go enjoy your shiny new OS you fascists and let us have our friggin 10% or is that just not good enough that you need 100%?

And I still argue that it is highly likely that other infringe and that they're attacking Apple because Apple is Apple.

Based on? I just saw a post where you asked how to find the patent info....

Prior art? Which Nokia patents do you think aren't valid? Or is it a fundamental conviction that The Lord God Jobs can do no wrong?

if it runs the programs i need, then yes, windows is better:rolleyes:

I am not talking about what you "need"? I am talking about an Operating System as such. From an engineering prospective, MS Windows isn't even half-decent. Comparing it to OS X is borderline hilarious.

If it works for you, then more power to you. But don't go out telling a bunch of BMW/Mercedes/Porsche engineers how your ford escort is better than a ferrari. Because it is not.

These ads have gotten to be both sad and incredibly false.

"Windows has issues". So does OS X. Why is it with Snow Leopard I still have to plug speakers/headphones in twice for it to finally route audio through the output? Why is it that the only way I can use my external display properly is to start the system up with the lid closed? Why can't I wake it like I did in Leopard? Why can't I just control it all in software like in Windows?

It's also downright hilarious when people say "Vista was a disaster". Even funnier when Phil Schiller made a comment about "only 20%" uptake on Vista and 70% on Leopard. Excuse me Phil Schiller, 20% of PC users is how many hundreds of millions? 70% of Mac users (not counting iPhone and iPod touch like Apple tried to lump in with the total number before) is what? Less than 20 million? According to Microsoft's sales numbers, Vista sold well over 300 million, which makes Vista the second most popular OS ever and installed on more than 10 times as many computers as there are Macs currently in use.

well these commercials are as dumb as the other ones. Apple really should stop with these. It just shows how bad apple elites are.

you really that blinded by apples BS?

please name 1 mac laptop that can outperform that for $1500? your options are pretty limited.

Nice hardware... but I would still have to put up with Windows. No thanks.
Also, I have no need for that much overkill. 95% of users don't.

for a company that claims ton innovate, their commercials were old when they first came out. I never like commercials or marketing that told me what the competitor didn't do as opposed to what you can do for me. since the market share hasn't really shifted, can we use an apple phrase and say what they are? "EPIC FAIL"

I always liked "bag of hurt."

And I suppose the fanboys here sit atop a smug, sanctimonious and hypocritical cloud. ;):p:D

Nah. Why address something that simply points out the self-esteem issues some people have because they see a few commercials, use the platform that the ad is in competition with, then flood forums with their memes to make themselves feel better?

They have counselors for that sort of thing, you know. I suggest you go see one.

Microsoft needs to take off the kid gloves and punch back at what you REALLY pay for when you buy a Mac:

It's all about elitism. You PAY for the Apple brand name, like you do for a Sony product like a TV. Call it what it is-- the Apple Tax.

I rest my case.

I'm trying to figure out what OS X can do that Windows can't. Or vice versa.

Light up a glowing Apple on the back of your laptop for the posers at Starbucks?

Wait, I guess that you could run Windows 7 on an Apple laptop - but then you'd be paying hundreds of dollars for that glowing Apple.

But, apparently, many here would rather pay hundreds more for a lesser laptop just for the glowing Apple.

Please explain.

What about Windows early '90s technology is hilarious compared to the Apple OSX early '70s UNIX tecnnology?

I don't need to "explain" anything. Reading a book about Operating Systems would be a good start.

The difference in sheer amount of innovation, work, and core technologies that went under the hood in every single iteration of OS X compared to Windows is ridiculous. Not only being under the hood, but also how it was able to affect and improve the end user's usability/workflow (Quicklook? Spotlight? Faster file operations? The subtle animations here and there? etc etc).

Like I said, enjoy whatever works for you. But next time you want to tell others that MS Windows is actually a better OS, I would suggest you do that in the computer engineering department of any university. Should be fun!

haha... that's awesome :)... and so true.

I wonder when Apple will do a commercial about Snow Leopard's features ?

Or you know... anything positive beyond trying to bash microsoft. I'd be amazed to see some Apple commercials actually talking about their products, what they do, etc.

or if you want a joke, ask any business why they don't run apples enterprise software/hardware. businesses run on windows software, period.

So, you can't describe any part of OSX technology that is inherently superior to Windows?

How about SMP support? Guess not, since Windows supports 256 CPUs and systems with multiple TiB of RAM -- and with 10.6 Apple has made an attempt to support the 16 CPUs systems that it sells.

LDAP? Seems that Active Directory is the gold standard for this, Apple?

It's easy to say "hilarious", "read a book" and "check the CS department". It's much harder to come up with salient points....

I think they would likely point out what many others in the field have stated in the past: given what it does, Windows is a very decent OS (at least, the NT kernel is).

Windows has had to support thousands upon thousands of components, in what essentially is millions upon millions of possible configurations. Anyone with any common sense could easily see that problems would arrive, and that's partly where some of the Windows issues originates from (such as the need to provide compatibility support for old applications).

Linux (to a lesser extent) and Unix (to a much lesser extent) also have to deal with this.

OS X, by comparison, supports a fairly narrow range of hardware, and if you exclude peripherals, it narrows much, much further. It works perfectly for providing high stability and optimal performance, and so I think your computer scientists/systems engineers would list this as well.

I mean, look at Snow Leopard: Apple officially dropped PowerPC support, and I'd argue part of that is so they no longer have to worry about compatibility issues and optimizations (along with the desire to drive more hardware sales).

The G5 was still being sold as recently as 3 years ago. Do you think Microsoft could get away with dropping support for the Pentium 4 or Athlon 64s? Hell, Windows 7 still has the support to run on the likes of all Pentium-based architectures, as well as the old Athlons (although it wouldn't be recommended to run it on such).

I found them funny. . . Once again people if you have Macs, these commercials aren't for you.

If you visit forums and keep up with the latest gadgets. . . the commercials aren't for you. They're for regular consumers with no knowledge of Apple Inc. Get over it. Apple is taking over slowly but surely.

I'm in love with my Mac. . . Glad I switched over a year ago AND I'm buying my Mom a Macbook Pro! Switching my house to ALL Mac's soon! :apple:
