Apple should go back to being a computer company and stop making TV shows.
Apple's got enough money to do both. They're bigger than Sony, which makes all sorts of things, movies and TV shows included.

Their Mac division needs to get back to making Macs. The blame lays with leadership there and there exclusively. (And maybe Intel.)

I'm getting a bit selfish here but Apple hasn't backed a single media endeavor for men.

Carpool Karaoke
A fake game show about Apps
A Witherspoon / Anniston collaboration
A thriller about a murderous psycho boyfriend
A partnership with Oprah

Am I missing something?

The estrogen is strong with them.

I want them to make new Macs too, but reassigning their TV execs to the Mac department isn't gonna make Jony work any faster.
Jony doesn’t work in hardware engineering.

I would prefer it if they concentrated on making new Macs rather than making new TV shows.
Of course because the teams responsible for new Macs are also responsible for TV shows.

The Mac has taken a back seat because of iPhone. I guess you want Apple to stop making iPhones?

Most overrated woman in the show biz
Most overrated post on this thread.

I would rather it was the other way around. I want Apple to focus on the Mac first and foremost not the iPhone.
Lol you should never be allowed to make any serious business decision for a company.
The Mac will become mostly irrelevant in the next years. Get used to it and leave the past in the past.

More like, "You get a monthly bill, and you get a monthly bill, and you ALL get a monthly bill!" :D

It's all about recurring revenue now.

ALL FOCUS IS ON MONEY NOW.
That’s what Tim is all about.
Forget about anything more inspiring.
RIP Apple as we knew it.

Jony's their head industrial designer, and any major revision to their hardware goes through him.

Reality doesn't always match up with wishes. If they focused on the Mac and the iPhone came second they'd rapidly decline. Remember, Apple was a niche player just starting to turn around until the iPod became the biggest thing in the world.

I used to be a huge fan of Oprah, but I realized that she just out for herself. I cannot stand her these days. I will not support anything that she’s involved with.
I am sure she is going to miss you. Not.

What are you talking about? It was always about the money they just didn’t make it until the iPod.
Apple as we knew it on the 90s maybe, then yes, I am very ok with forgetting about it.
How naive are you? It’s bloody capitalism out there.

Not 100% sure what the end game is for Apple here.

I know this will bug people - but honestly if two of your desktop computers had been updated in the past 5 years, I could handle hearing about some of this stuff.

Please, no! Netflix is doing just fine as they are. I love Apple, but they need to stay away from Netflix and Spotify. I don't want Apple ruining those two great services.

The only way it becomes viable to buy Netflix is if all the other ridiculous, anti-competitive deals come through, and Netflix would need a deal with Apple or Google or Amazon to get the broadband connections to compete with Comcast and AT&T with no Net Neutrality to protect Netflix.

Boy, you haven't been paying attention:

I’m convinced that apple is commissioning this sort of thing to:

  • Get experience in the tv/movie business
  • To convince people it’s serious about it
  • And then convince a big content player and Wall Street to let it buy them
  • And with Time Warner and AT&T, all bets are off now - there’s going to be some mega big and surprising acquisitions.

Jony's their head industrial designer, and any major revision to their hardware goes through him.
If they’re just updating internals it wouldn’t need to go through him. Also the recent Mac announcements (iMac Pro, Mac Pro) came from hardware engineering not Jony Ive.

I'll clarify it right now: Apple TV on Apple devices with Apple subscriptions.

It’s all about the subscription services.

Wall Street loves subscription services because they make each quarterly result more predictable and thus makes Apple is an even better stock. People will get less worried about how much iPhones are sold each quarter.

Apple loves this this for the same reason.

And there has to be some link in building up a tv service and the move to AR.

Perhaps in 5 years time we’ll all be watching Apple TV shows that look like they’re 3D projections on our Apple TVs with our Apple AVR glasses.

I remember when a friend of mine almost got divorced because of her show. He would get home after work and his wife would tell him all the things he was doing wrong because he heard it on "Oprah." This was in the early years of her show when it had more of a near-Jerry Springer type format. Years later, she softened up the format and started attracting stars.

She's not a bad person, but she sure started as one. Not interested in her programing.

She was a “bad person” because some buddy of yours couldn’t keep his wife happy and she needed to seek answers from a TV show? Okay, buddy.

Yeah why diversify and have billions in recurring revenue when you can bank everything on one product like Blackberry. Watch an episode of shark tank.
