I want them to make new Macs too, but reassigning their TV execs to the Mac department isn't gonna make Jony work any faster.
Everything they do takes manager oversight, product design, and even the CEO's focus. Steve Jobs was nuts (for the time) about having a simple product line. Similarly, it gets confusing on the consumer side, which is probably why one company often splits things into brands that seem unrelated.

Not that I'm against the TV stuff. It's probably what they have to do. But I think they should make a separate brand for it.

As long as she stays the hell away from narrating nature programs I’m sure I’ll be able to avoid her quite easily.

Why is this mindset so prevalent on this forum? Apple should just buy out every competitor? WHY?

Why not? Apple have the cash to buy. Big companies like ATT just bought Time Warner, Amazon bought Twitch and Whole Food, Disney bought Marvel and Star War, Apple bought Beat...

Apple is trying to build up their own TV streaming service with a few exclusive shows compared to what Netflix has to offer.

I am sure many companies are eyeing on Netflix but which one or itself will turn this service to the next level.

Just buy Netflix...

That would be a colossal financial mistake. Netflix is in a precarious situation. It is a one trick pony when it comes to revenue and its cost are rising dramatically as it now has to bid against Apple, Google, Amazon, etc., and soon even more like Disney. There is nothing unique any of them are doing. They are all licensing content, which is still the majority of Netflix's lineup, that any of them can license, and they are all bidding for the same pool of producers, directors, etc., to make "original" content for them. Problem for Netflix is that as their cost rise dramatically, they can't raise prices enough to keep up, but most of their big competitors can use their video content as a "loss leader" or otherwise leverage it with their multiple other revenue streams.

Yes, Netflix has some good original content, but Apple can develop that on its own and they already have 20 or so shows lined up and will just keep adding, so it would be foolish for Apple to spend the tens of billions of dollars to buy Netflix's shows. They've brought in the best talent from Sony, Amazon, etc., to run their video team and they have impressive track records with shows like Breaking Bad, etc.

Imvho Oprah and OWN harbor a very niche audience like Macs do. Good for Apple to keep up with niche audiences. That said I don't see it
Mac won't be irrelevant. I've been hearing the same thing since 2008. People use them for work and anything else, and Apple does focus on them, just not on the desktops. Nobody uses the iPad; it's a failure, and the ultimate humiliation is that it lost to Microsoft's Surface of all things.

btw, I don't care about the business anyway, just the stuff I own

I'm not a creative pro, but I can't see how throwing their entire creative market in the trash made sense even purely in terms of profits. Did they just run out of manpower in those departments? I know some people in the industry, and they say it's gone from Mac to Windows, just like how Hollywood stupidly drove everyone to Georgia with their taxes.
Mmmmm my surface pro is pretty awesome. Does so much more than an iPad.

Apple apple seem to forget that 50%+ of streaming service buyers are Independent and Republicans! Netflix already now loaded with Progressive type content and they just sign the Obamas to a $50 million deal for three or four movie/show of their own choosing.

They don't need to.

What does Apple need from Netflix? Netflix's value is in their content. Without it, their members stop subscribing. Apple has been making content deals that rival Netflix. Apple doesn't need Netflix's distribution channels or technologies; Netflix's distribution channel is Apple and with regards to the technology, Apple has been doing this with iTunes for far longer than Netflix has even existed.

It'll be fantastic to have this kind of competition. Netflix, Apple and Disney will push each other and the audience will win with better content. Notably, if Netflix doesn't get in on the TV app, then Apple wins because Apple's content will be there, front and centre while Netflix's will be boxed within an app by their choice.

Apple will have to create it streaming service app for Roku, Amazon and Google boxes as well as manufacturers smart tv hubs.

The Mac will become mostly irrelevant in the next years. Get used to it and leave the past in the past.

Are you insisting that the apps and media you enjoy on your mobile device will be created with a smartphone?

Lol, why do some people hate Oprah so much? I really know nothing about her other than her Wikipedia article, so idk.

She’s a serial endorser who can’t commit to any idea she raves about for more than a few months. How many diets has she peddled and quit? I’ve lost count.

More that the developers will continue to use whatever Macs are on the market to work on their apps, regardless of their misgivings.

Because Apple doesn’t need to.

A single subscription combining Apple news, music and video will more than suffice to draw users in. They don’t need anywhere near as much content as Netflix just to compete with them and in reality, most users will just maintain both.

Cook is doing a fantastic job. Absolutely phenomenal.
I think this is correct from the view of an investor of Apple.

Anyone who disagrees has personal vendettas because the product they want updated hasn’t been.
But from a consumer point of view, isn't this expected?

Why does record revenue and billions in profit matter from a the perspective of someone that uses Apple products? I think it is the products that is what is important to a consumer, not the business/investing side of things.

I have used Apple products for a very long time, and I think Apple make a much better product back when their revenue was a fraction of what it is now, especially on the software side of things.

They also usually don’t understand business or executing a strategy at all.
Again, I think that someone using an Apple product just wants it to be a high quality product.

They don't care about Apple's business strategy, unless that involves purposely slowing devices with software updates.

Agreed. Apple doesn’t need a Netflix. Heck, I wouldn’t touch Netflix stock let alone buy the company outright. The one thing Netflix has is a large subscriber base, but that can disappear pretty quickly. Their content has been crap lately and there’s going to be stronger competition in that space from ATT/Time Warner, Comcast, FaceBook, Disney, Apple, Amazon, etc.

Also, some of those studios, like Disney, will be pulling their content from Netflix starting next year, making Netflix a poorer value.

Lastly, if shows from companies like Apple, FaceBook and Amazon are any good, and they price their video services aggressively... or provide it for free... to sell more hardware, ads, Prime memberships, etc. that will impact Netflix subscriptions.

One other possibility is that all of this fragmentation will reverse the cord-cutting trend as people realize cable subscriptions provide a better value.

Business/investing side of things is a reflection of what is important to the consumer. If Apple wasn’t producing products people love like the iPhone, AirPod, iPad, Apple Watch, HomePod, etc., their business/stock price would be suffering.

What consumers think of Apple and what jaded “fans”/prognosticators / trolls post on these boards are two very different things. People don’t call this site Macwhiners for no reason. ;)

Yeah, I guess that means companies that have poor quality products/services like Comcast, Mcdonald's, United Airlines, and Walmart with be out of business soon.

It still doesn't explain why a company's stock price is a reason someone should buy their product.

You have it backwards. Apple’s stock price is proof that people are still buying their products, despite all the criticism being hurled at them here and elsewhere.

Which then begs the question - are we buying Apple products en-mass because we are sheep (as the haters would claim; after all, who would pay $1k for an iPhone, right?) or because Apple continues to put out compelling products that offer a great user experience? The people insisting on the former are the real sheep here.

Is Apple perfect? No, but then, what company is? However, Apple is still going strong, will go on to become even more successful, and I believe that it most definitely is not going to fail for the reasons stated here and elsewhere.

Oprah has always been hand to mouth as she spends lavishly on mansions every chance she gets. Not a good match for Apple.

That is incredible entitlement. So just because you love Apple, it should buy out any and every competitor and build one giant monopoly everywhere possible?

That's disgusting, you should be ashamed of yourself for promoting this mindset.
