Apple never has GREAT deals. You can save more money buying a refurb from the online store than from any Black Friday deals. But you will save a few bucks. Better than nothing. ;)

Meh, the discounts are technically not even discounts if you have the student discount.

And I just used discount three times in the past sentence.

only idiots are buying computers and electronics during the holiday season

sandy bridge is coming in less than 2 months
new ipad is coming early next year
iphone is almost 6 months into its cycle

CES is the second week of January and all the new TV's will be shown off with a lot of them available soon after the show ends.

I bought my 21.5 inch iMac last year on Black Friday. I paid $1049 for the $1199 iMac from Macconnection. two mail in rebates, 1 from Apple and 1 from Macconection provided the discounts. They came through with the rebates and I am very happy with the purchase. I also was able to get iWork for $39. So I guess I am an idiot.

Any wild guesses for Apple TV? Was going to get one today. For 5 bucks off I still would buy now. For $89 total I might wait, for $79 total I'd definitely wait.

It's not a sale. Its a "Shopping Event."

Exactly right. The idea is to get rid of overstocked product. The "sale" items are loss leaders designed to attract the type of people who will buy some of the other overstocked stuff on the shelves.

What does Apple have plenty of stock on and want to clear off their shelves (more than they want the full profit)? Who buys that kind of stuff? What trinkets will get them in the door?

Probably iPod stocking stuffers. There's been no shortage on those, and random impulse buyers will come in to buy them (and hopefully other stuff as well).

Result: more profit for Apple, not less.

Just for kicks id love to see Apple heavily discount the white MacBook and or mini for this one day! I bet people would go crazy for them. Helps with the marketshare too :d

Here are my guesses for Black Friday prices at the Apple Store:

iPad Wifi:
$489 - 16GB
$579 - 32GB
$669 - 64GB

iPad 3G:
$589 - 16GB
$679 - 32GB
$769 - 64GB

iPod Shuffle
$39 - 2GB

iPod Nano
$139 - 8GB
$159 - 16GB

iPod Touch
$199 - 8GB (Deal of the day)
$279 - 32GB
$359 - 64GB

Apple TV
$89

MacBook
$899 - 2.4GHz/2GB/250GB (Deal of the day)

MacBook Pro
$1099 - 13"/2.4GHz
$1599 - 13"/2.4GHz

MacBook Air
$939 - 11"/64GB
$1199 - 13"/128GB

Mac Mini
$599 - 2.4GHz/320GB

iLife'11
$39

iWork
$59

I already spent my money on my car or at Kohl's. Technology is in a slump until after CES. iPad 2.0 is going to probably kick my Macbook to the curb and there go my OS X days.

That 27" IPS Dell for $724 was tempting though. Maybe next year...

will this apply here in the UK as well? i'd be interested in what an iPad will cost. cheapest i can see for an entry iPad is £401

Not everyone qualifies for an EDU discount and not everyone who doesn't chooses to circumvent the system. For someone who would normally pay the full price the $101 off, or whatever it ends up being this year, is plenty.

I love how on this site the people that complain are the ones irrelevant to begin with. You're the same guy/gal who decides to go and buy it off of Craigslist or other retailer for even less anyway so why bother complaining about something you have no intention of taking advantage of.

This is a great offer for the consumer and on a day which, quite frankly, most manufacturers ignore and most retailers get killed on just to bring people through the door. I'd say this is a good middle ground.

I didn't realize there was such a thing as an irrelevant Apple customer.

It's not a matter of opinion, it is a matter of fact. If that many people that cried and whined about it were customers, it would never have happened. They didn't sell enough to make a good business case to keep them around. Period.

Quit being a di*k.

I hope you have a wonderful thanksgiving with your family, and safe travels if you are traveling for thanksgiving.

There will be nothing worthwhile to purchase if you already have access to the education discount.

We are the Apple Core Collective...

You will be assimilated. Your biological and technological distinctiveness is inferior and will NOT be added to our own. Face it... We have better stuff. Resistance is futile. Merry Holidays! ;)

This is my opinion on this BS Black Friday sale at apple.. How much does it cost to make their ipods, iphones, and ipads,.. I know it's posted but can't remember or care what it is....

Anyway selling a 64g wi-fi ipad for $600 when it cost them $200 and something dollars to make is a rip off.. I know they are in it for the profit but if for a black friday sale they dropped that price down to $400 they would sell that much more and make that much more profit...

I have a MBP and love the way it works but the prices for some of the apple products are way over priced..... Now one other poster put a macbook at 899 for a sale price.. I might buy one of those at that price but I'm starting to shun away from apple because of their greed......

it's called upsell and everyone here does it in some capacity for their employer

Are the Beatles on sale?

Brilliant simply brilliant. This one made me laugh hard enough to disturb the natives... :)

Their all too busy being serious over work.

Same old story, nothing for sure, nothing but hype.

Intel is almost as bad as Apple when it comes to hyping products. I upgrade my MBP , and ThinkPads each time there's a new chip. I've got years of experience and very few times is the new processor even close to the speed increases they claim. Loading my system with max ram & every other available upgrade, it's rarely anything to get excited over. But that said what sells in our society is the "illusion", the mystery before the reality, the gamble. People who wait waste a lot of useful time. Newer is not always better, and few truly need what the mouthpiece is selling.

true, but why buy a computer for $1000 or so when you know something better for that price is coming in a month? it's not like prices are going to go up. it's not like the old days when Intel would release a CPU and it would take months for dell and others to ship systems with it. Intel has been producing the new CPU's for months now and Dell and others are stocking up right now to be ready for the official launch

with all the BF leaks i'm seeing a lot of LED TV's on "sale". in reality it's dumping old crap because next year almost everything will be LED and/or 3D built in
