It seems to me that if you're a big enough beatles fan to be excited about them coming to iTunes, you'd already have most/all of their stuff (I know I do)

Here's another reason why it ISN'T The Beatles. Paul McCartney released the remastered Band on the Run a couple weeks ago. For those that were interested in digital tracks, the are for sale on his website at significantly better than CD quality (and immeasurably better than "iTune Plus" quality.)

So, why sell them through Apple (when most people that are interested already have them) and share the revenue when you can sell tracks on your own site and get all the cash, in a format that might inspire some repeat sales?

I didn't mean to imply that it had anything to do with The Beatles, just that Apple may be using Paul McCartney's song as a slogan for something related to iTunes.
Something new that makes you go through just another day, but you'll never forget. I think it has to do with a new feature.
Could it be song recognition (finder), better lyrics, better way to organize and access all your iTunes libraries, etc???

I don't think it's a big launch of a music album on iTunes.

Improved syncing. Feed your devices, faster.

A simpler way to sync.
iTunes gives you even better ways to sync your media from your computer to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod. There’s a new capacity bar that tells you exactly how much space you have left on your device in real time. And it’s even easier to organize all your apps on all your devices because you do it right in iTunes. Shop the App Store on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Then connect to your Mac or PC and go to your iTunes library to arrange (and rearrange) your apps and add or delete Home screens that sync back to your devices automatically.

I also thought on Wireless syncing, and actually I believe that would indeed be unforgettable, even if Windows Phone 7 already has it. It would be unforgettable because we would be able to sync wirelessly every day, many times a day. That cannot be forgotten but it doesn't mean that is also exciting. I think we should take the words "a day you will never forget" literally.

It can't be Beatles.

Do you really think Apple would replace their frontpage with a Beatles announcement? Come on. It's gotta be something bigger.

Ironic comment since many people here have said that removing the MacBook Air ad is HUGE while others have commented that dedicating the home page to this announcement is inconsequential.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I may have cracked it :)

First of all, let me talk about Apple's other domain names.
- Apple.tv points to Apple.com/appletv
- itunes.com points to Apple.com/iTunes

See a trend? Each url points to the most obvious url on Apple's website - itunes to the itunes homepage, apple.tv to the Apple TV homepage, so why doesn't iTun.es fit this trend? Because they want to show the message on the homepage to the visitors of iTun.es - implying that it has something to do with iTun.es...

Just a theory :) (that it's going to be something to do with iTun.es.)

Why would it be the Beatles? Seriously, that won't be earth shattering. I'm a huge Beatles fan to be sure, but the thing is I already have all their albums. Already on iTunes. Already on my iPod and iPhone. Anyone that wants the Beatles can get them now. Just walk into a store or order it through Amazon and then burn the CD.

Is there anyone seriously waiting to buy the Beatles until it comes out on iTunes? If so, what on earth are you waiting for?

Also, this ISN'T a case of not wanting to buy a whole CD for only one or two songs and the rest being crap. It's the fricken Beatles, they're almost all good ones. If anything, you get a whole CD full of great songs with one or two dogs....if that (I'm looking at you, Revolution 9).

I like the idea of a cloud based system. It would suck if it only worked with purchased iTunes content though..I doubt they would do that since so many people burn cd's to their library, etc. Anywho, can't wait to see what happens.

Maybe with "unforgettable" it's that Nat King Cole is coming to iTunes!

Now THAT would be disappointing...

But as I said above, it is TWO things:

- cloud-based syncing so you don't forget again where your songs are;

- The Beatles in lossless format for an unforgettable landmark "one more thing" moment.

Wireless syncing for all iOS devices.

It isn't the Beatles. Who cares about them?

I can't see it being the Beatles either. The teaser suggests something that everyone would want/appreciate. Not everyone is a Beatles fan.

iTunes music store for people in the Czech republic available? Please, we are waiting TOO long for this!!

What about Poland? There is Ovi Music Store, but iTunes Store with not just music, but also movies and TV series would be great.

Yeah, I know, that announcement would be almost surely something for the countries with iTunes Store only. Nothing to see here for me.

Tomorrow is my birthday. End of story. Steve was just going to tell you all to wish me a happy birthday.

Don't complain, it's no more useless than any of the other posts in this thread.

This could explain why the iTunes store was dog slow at 7am CST today, and I was unable to make any purchases due to some "account not eligible" warning, despite having plenty of funds available, and no other internet connection issues.

The fact that Jobs thought John Mayer's tedious set was worthy of keynote minutes (felt like hours) means that nobody should get his hopes up too high.

It's going to be something he thinks is AWESOME!!! And the rest of the world will go 'oh'.

It is not inconsequential unless Apple changed their frontpage policy. They only put their biggest announcements on the frontpage, and putting it a day ahead happens very very rarely. Either they are trying to increase Apple stock before a weak event, or it's something worthy of putting on frontpage a day ahead.
