Anyone notice the background they used on the announcement page?

They've been using that on all their new products recently, eg. Apple TV.

It's a weird one, at a weird time... they only just released iTunes 10, and 10.1 on Friday, so that kind of rules out an updated iTunes, doesn't it? Unless they were just using their resources to surprise people. Maybe 4.2 was never going to be released on the first GM, maybe they planted the WiFi bug? Maybe 4.2 will only sync over the cloud, and the whole GMs and Betas etc are just a ploy?

Or ya know, maybe not.

Interesting nonetheless...

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7)

Amazing how no rumor sites got a hold of this!!!!
Steve this better be good. !

Let us hope that if it is indeed some kind of launch using Apple's NC Server farm and iTunes is now cloudy, things go off without a hitch as was the case with the MobileMe being launched for prime time when it wasn't even ready for a 3:00 am showing. Otherwise, Apple's premonition will be correct and 'Tomorrow will be a day we'll never forget!'

I have thought that Apple would do something to compete with Netflix for quite some time now… I would cancel my Netflix account in lieu of Apple's equivalent in a heartbeat, because I know they could probably do it better! And if they include streaming to music with the streaming to movies, that will be what makes it better!

Imagine, Apple having something where you can stream music, movies, tv shows, etc from any device at any time for one low price! OMG! :-D

Sorry for a stupid question, but what does "cloud-based' iTunes mean?

Your data is stored on their servers, and is immediately available to all your devices.

No worries about copying stuff, losing stuff, backing up stuff, not having access to your stuff, etc.

Steve Ballmer in a Speedo

Now THAT is something you'll never forget. Tomorrow, maybe not so much. We'll see. Ballmer in a Speedo sets a pretty high standard though.

Yeah. It is pretty interesting. Why use it now? I mean Apple is famous for dopping hints, controlled press leaks, etc. Lets wait to see what gets 'leaked' over the coming hours.

Don't Facebook have an announcement tomorrow as well, I would guess its the Ping/Facebook integration.

if it is cloud based iTunes - People seem to have forgotten Lala acquisition.... No need to upload everything you have, cause they either already have it or some other people will upload it for you... so it will be just question of matching your library with cloud content... They just really want people to ditch their iPod Classics - since they dont even count it as an iPod anymore (see the last media event)...:((

Is it for your entire library or just iTunes songs. If it just iTunes songs then all you are uploading to a cloud is library and playlist data which your device logs into. They already have all the music and only need to store a single instance of it.

I can't imagine they will let you upload your entire library. I think they will let you download or stream all of your purchases. My guess is it will cost $ to have access to your old purchases, but any purchases in the future will include persistent access.

i am leaning toward the Beatles

New music tuesday. Songs will be available worldwide. Does not need a Steve presentation for just new music. The data center is still hiring. Will take some time to test streaming. Would more than likely need Steve to present.

Imagine all the music you ever wanted being managed by someone else. all you do is pay them to hold onto it. e.g subscription service.

If you have a gmail account, that is "cloud" based as its managed by someone else
