So...services is where you’re gonna be now, Apple?

End of an era, truly... We are gonna see more and more mediocre hardware, until the day you stop making hardware altogether.
Internet based content isn't a new market for apple, nor is streaming even.

Why do you think it will be much harder to pull off?

Seems just about the inability of some to believe they can do it. MobileME was a disaster. Heads rolled. Yes, Steve Jobs screwed up, because he knew zilch about networks. So then they put up iCloud, and people thought it was primitive. Now, do you hear many complaints about iCloud? Apple Maps is still #2, but they keep on improving. Some people just love hating Apple.

My reason for wanting it is pretty simple. In a family full of iPhone users, my wife and I are Android users. Having iMessage would be wonderful for group chat, unlimited character length, unlimited photo, video and attachment size, read reciepts, end to end encryption, etc. Theres really not a reason to NOT want it.
Also, there is no iMessage alternative on Android. You have facebook messenger and whatsapp (a facebook owned company) so theres no way i would EVER use those as there is 0 privacy. There are other smaller options like signal, telegram, viber, kik, etc... But no one is EVER going to convince all of their contacts to sign up for a random 3rd party service. I understand countries outside of the US dont use SMS and so depending on what your friends are using you might have a handful of different apps just to communicate.
In the US, we primarily still use SMS, which is pure crap. Its the equivalent of using dial-up when the rest of the world has moved on to fiber. RCS is supposed to fix this, but Apple may not support RCS and so then it becomes a moot point. You also have to remember that iPhones make up less then 15% of phones worldwide. Just because they are popular in the US doesn't mean they are popular everywhere.

Honestly, its stupid of Apple to NOT release iMessage for Android. Blackberry did the EXACT same thing in the 90's with BBM. Once/IF RCS does come along and becomes the new standard, Apple will be trying to play catch-up (like BBM tried a few years ago by releasing to other platforms), but the world had moved on. If Apple released iMessage now before RCS catches on, they could completely capture every market and be the standard of mobile messaging.

Thanks, I honestly did not know. Texting was somewhat character limited and also the service providers charged extra for texting when I had my Android. Now most providers have either unlimited or a ridiculously high limit on the number of text messages before you get charged.

As to why Apple doesn't provide a Android compatible App, I don't know. I could guess at a few reasons, but they would only be guesses.

Also, there's no reason to think this will be the end of their innovations. Who's done anything as earthshaking as the iPhone?

Exactly. Or the iPod and iTunes Store.

People keep talking about (lack of) innovation, but I've yet to find another company that has released anything even close to those products in consumer space.

Just saw some kid singing a song in a high school gym on the "livestream." If it was supposed to be a reference to a recent pop culture phenomenon, I’m not aware of it.

Which "market" are you referring to that's being ignored? And what data do you have to back up your assertion?

The market that prefers capacity over high-end speed in their desktop Mac as well as a low entry pricepoint.

For numbers, I point you to this year’s upcoming quarterly reports. Welcome.

Unfortunately the cited products’ original release dates are much closer to Apple’s near-death experience than to the current date. And that’s what’s making people a bit nervous.

Bundle a family plan with Apple Music and then we’ll talk, depending on what premium channels are bundled.

Bundle a plan and provide a decent ISP in my area and I might be interested. I have (besides satellite services) a grand total of 1 choice. And although my speed is now high enough to stream, I pay through the nose to get it. The great wireless revolution isn't going to work until you don't have to worry or think about where you currently are, the service is there, its fast and its reliable. 3 things that aren't true in 80% of the physical area of this country. Now, 80% of the population might have good service where they live, but drive 30 miles away from a major city into a rural area and I bet you can't rely on it.

Guys i'm charging all my crapple devices at 100%, getttin ready for ios 12.2. ;)

I like several of the Netflix original series. I agree several of them are bad but there are some good ones. And the stuff I like the most is no ads, no logos, no previews, and 4K and no stupid censorships. I like all the marvel series, travelers, stranger things, etc.
Just watched this lol

So...no data. Just an unsupported guess.

It would be amazing if Apple announced a live streaming service for events like concerts. Want to see Bruno Mars in a city you do not live in? Pay $20 for a live video feed. I would sign up in a heartbeat.

You wouldn’t be scared if your entire business was streaming mostly licensed content and Apple, will the most cash in the world to buy content and 1.4B devices with screens was about to launch a streaming service?

If I was Hulu or Netflix, maybe. If I was Disney, I would laugh at Apple's puny streaming service. Disney is the only streaming service surprise that I think Apple could announce as being included that would guarantee its acceptance. But I don't think Disney needs Apple, so I don't think that is going to be announced.

Great idea

I don’t think you have anything better at hand right now. If you can’t wait, take the forum votes of the matching articles on the topic and the criticized product details as a hint.

Anyway, I just didn’t wanted to let your endless praise that you slipped into this thread somehow get away without some contrasting feedback. It’s still not well positioned here, so I’ll focus in the hopefully great presentation tomorrow.

What would you like to see in new shows? I still hope for new episodes of Team America - World Police. Lots of new high-potential marionettes around these days.
