Aren't you ignoring 50% of the population that doesn't need pockets?
I see a lot of women using these large phones with a wallet case they put in their purse.
looks like im with the minority that thinks current size is great and don't want iPad mini mini in the pocket

Maybe 6" is a bit big, but the 2 biggest complaints I hear about the iPhone here in China is that it's (1) too thin, and (2) looks like a brick.
Myself, I'd consider getting one if it was a bit wider, it's just too thin for me.
Wait, 6 inch and most people want... here's a thought, get the iPad Mini with cellular access, bam! biggest phone - you are welcome. 
6" is too small, if I wanted a bigger iOS device I'll gladly take an iPad mini, keeping it around 4" would make sense though.
6" to me is no mans land, too big for a phone, too small for a tablet- it's a lose-lose.

My work pretty much requires me to use Otterbox Defender if i want my phone to survive so phone being thin is good but most people do not use those ridiculously large cases. But interesting point about phone being too thin personally i haven't heard of those complains but interesting to know they exist
Thank goodness. I just want an option if I want to get a larger screen. Maybe 4.5" or something. I'm not sure yet, I'd have to use one for a while.
giving everyone a choice is a great idea. some people will like a bigger screen, some won't, but this will help sell even more iPhones
4.7/4.8 would be ideal
I have small hands for a guy and I think 6' makes it a tablet, but 4.7/4.8 sounds perfect. Especially after seeing what Motorola was able to do with a 4.7 inch screen in the moto x (only slightly taller and wider than an iPhone) and perfectly usable in one hand, I'm excited for what Apple may come up with. Hopefully sooner than later.

Yeah, as long as you don't, you know, use INTERNET on your phone! Lol, at anybody that buys a NON 4G smartphone in 2013. Why not just buy a dumb phone'?
I'm not upgrading my 4S until it Apple offers a phone with a bigger screen. If Apple does not bring one to market by the time I'm ready to update my handset, I will buy a Samsung. The 4" screen is ok for Apple, but not ok for my eyes. I want a bigger screen that is easier to read and has more information on it. Apple is having a harder and harder time executing... they held back on letting a iPad Mini loose and it hurt them, when they finally did, it outsold their iPad. Now they have held back releasing different size phones and are loosing untold numbers of sales to Samsung. Samsung releases the watch, Apple is still prodding around in the dark. It's no shock that AAPL is nearly 40% off it's high. The company is not being run properly which makes them too slow to execute. Mac Pro is a prime example...when a computer company can't update it's flag ship product for 3 years.

iOS 7 is the most beautiful & functional mobile OS I've seen. If Apple can only make their device less than 10% larger, but fit a 5" screen by eliminating the borders.. I'm all for it.
If you want an Android... go for it. I hear there are a few nice ones.
