It is a damn shame.

I don't understand how Apple under Cook has gone from being the industry leader to becoming a company that cannot even produce a device with a bigger screen.

Tim Cook should stop trying to defend iPhone's screen size as if it is dictated by God and start getting his head out of his ass and get a clue.

Since he has become CEO, he has spent an inordinate amount of time defending the iPhone's screen.

It just makes him look silly.

Apple needs a CEO with vision and leadership, not someone who does nothing while the stock tanks.

There are plenty of larger screen phones whose actual dimensions are not hugely different to the iPhone 5.

Slap an iPhone 5 on top of a Blackberry Z10 or a HTC One and whilst they are a little bigger in dimensions they are not overtly so. I think most people's pockets can handle 3-5 mm extra.....

I meant in comparison to the Galaxy Bloat II. Its sig bigger than the iphone 5, no way that would fit in my back pocket jeans. Nor do I need a screen that big to carry around with me

A bigger iPad would be cool. A 5" or larger iPhone would be messed up. It's supposed to fit in a pocket.

I seriously doubt they would make a 13 inch iPad. What I am really hoping is that they are testing a 13 inch touchscreen for a MacBook Air. I won't buy one until it gets touch. As it is now, I'm so used to using my iPad with a logitech keyboard, every time I go back to using my 17 inch MacBookPro, I constantly find myself reaching for the screen to move something around only to quickly be reminded it isn't a touchscreen.

that's such a bad, dare I say, stupid idea.
That's why Microsoft isn't selling well with Windows 8.

I thought both of the people whining about the iPhone screen size already switched to Android.

Seriously though, this will be a headache for developers and will lead to Android-style fragmentation. The biggest advantage of the iPhone over Android (though there are many) is the diverse app ecosystem. Let's keep things simple for developers instead of making them create apps for 8 different screen sizes. Less time wasted on fragmentation leads to better apps. Seriously, if you want a gigantic, barely-fits-in-your-pocket, wildebeest of a smartphone, just get an iPad Mini or switch to Android. Take a quick glance at sales numbers for iPhone vs. Galaxy Note/Note 2 and it's obvious that it the market doesn't want a gigantic phone. It's not worth the developer headaches to please a handful of whiny people.

And if they make a huge iPad, I'm definitely calling it the Max iPad.

For me it's like this. When I see iPhone 4.7"+, I'll buy it. Until then I'll be using Nexus 4. Plain and simple.

iPad Maxi? - I had to check my calendar and make sure it was not April 1.

Seriously, when Steve returned to Apple, one of the first thigs he did was kill all the "extras" and have the company focus on the things it does well. I hope that lesson is not forgotten.

Fanboys - Apple says 3.5 is perfect don't want a 4' - now 4' is perfect don't want a 4.3 or 4.6 - well some of us do, just because you don't want it doesn't mean Apple shouldn't go do it. Should just make 3 sizes and keep everyone happy, up to you to buy which one you want.

A slightly larger iPhone is inevitable, but with regard specifically to it's camera capabilities, if the camera sensor isn't made to be larger than what it currently is that would be a very disappointing aspect of any bigger sized iPhone, IMHO.

As for a 13" iPad, I really just don't see the point of it when most consider the current 9.7" big enough, whilst you have a 13" MBA to fill in that mobile size slot very comfortable AND with the benefit of a keyboard.

Putting in a larger camera sensor and making good use of it would also require increasing the thickness, so don't bet on it. Just having the larger sensor might make quality better, but it wouldn't be anywhere close to what you'd expect.

At any rate, if the phone size grows without a smaller option, the next phone I buy will be a 4S. The size of the 5 is, in my opinion, inconvenient.

It's also likely they're testing the 13 inch 'tablet' as the detachable screen of a 13 inch MBP or MBAir...They've got a patent for a device like that with magnetic hinges that extend.

Am I the only one who does not want to see a touchscreen on the Air? It sounds awful, honestly.

One of those things that is there is someone wants it. Like a stylus is an option on some phones or tablets not a requirement and I see options as something great.

Not too sure how much I would use touch on a laptop, the mouse or trackpad is easier.

I think you're underestimating the number of people who would be interested. I would buy a larger iPhone in a second. I'm currently still on a 4S (still prefer the OS to Android), but waiting for a larger screen The 5's screen is barely larger, I think they made a mistake with the 5, forcing developers to do a lot of work for very little gain. Should have gone right to ~4.5", then kept the 3.5" screen as the smaller version.

And frankly I would be fine with keeping the current 1136x640 resolution, no extra pain for developers, of which I am one.

I would love a 4.3 or 4.8 screen for the iphone not sure about a 13 inch ipad though.

Indeed, what would be the loin of having a tablet the size of regular notebook?
On the other hand I am also not that happy with the ever increasing size of phones. Originally, it was about making phones as small as possible, no it is going exactly the opposite direction: large seams to be innovating. I don't know what to think of this.

----------

Finally!

Bigger the better I say.

Really??? Why?

Not everyone keep smart phone in pocket. A lot of girl keep it in handbag and have no problem operate with two hand. So the big iPhone can have market separate from normal iPhone. It will suit difference people with difference life style.

WTH? a larger iphone is for muppets. The iphone 5 sizing is just right, any larger and it can't fit in your pockets easily.

Really? Really? For size comparisons I took this of my friends iPhone 5, my Galaxy S4 and for poops and giggles his iPad Mini. The S4 isnt even that much bigger than the iPhone.

Am not sure whether these numbers are actually that large, don't be mistaken that only those who complain are being heard. Increasing screen size by loosing the rims is OK by, but a larger phone? No way, size doesn't matter, if you need a bigger screen you probably using the wrong device anyways.

We have several Lenovo Helix hybrids in the office and they are quite slick.

If Apple were to do a MacBook Touch convertible hybrid I would for sure give it serious consideration.

As for the iPhone. A 4" device has no where to go but up if you want more tech, better tech and better battery life.

Personally I think Apple should skip another incremental hop and go balls out with a 5" >1080P IGZO display iPhone, with 2GB of ram, and a massive battery. Dump the home button and go full gesture in iOS.

For those that want a smaller screen, there is the iPhone Color...

I can't see them releasing a lower-res phone than what's already out there. Bigger size would surely mean more pixels.

Honestly, I prefer the height of my 4S to that of the 5. I want my phone to be portable - light and small. If I want to do heavy reading I'll grab an iPad, but I keep my wallet and phone in the same pocket and want to keep it that way. I wonder if a bigger iPhone (or "phablet" as some are calling them) would cannibalize iPad sales. I think the smart business model is to keep phones small and market the iPad Mini to those who want a bigger screen in a still highly portable device.

If the trend is towards a single iOS product, at a range of sizes.. 4" 5" 7" 10" 13" .. even 60"... etc... whilst initially that seems reasonable and inevitable, could that actually devalue the brand perception?

Is that what we/Apple want?
To walk into the Apple store and ask for a 4" and a 12"...
Is this Subway?!

I want 3.0 inch!

No need for a smartphone, I need a handbag for. I am not a woman.
Would be nice, if Apple would offer SMALLER sizes, too.
Smaller size would allow the construction to have more stability, and it would become easier to protect it while in unfriendly environment. I am moving around a lot outdoors.

As an optin I guess okay. But I want my phone thinner lighter. Nit bigger. I hate those huge phones.

Apples competitors are getting increasingly good at making thin, pocketable devices with larger screens.

The external designs are damn near shrink wrapped to the displays where overall volume is very close to the iPhone 5, despite the smaller display.
