According to several reviews, it's hard to tell the difference with the taptic engine compared to the mechanical button, and you get the benefit of being able to click anywhere on the trackpad. The configurability is still there, with the force tap as an added gesture.

So does the 13 rmbp new trackpad still have click too?

I think it looks great.

Apples touch ID works sometimes but really needs improvement.

I find it quite reliable on both my 5S and my Air 2.

----------

I have heard complaints of touch ID problems in the 5s model. That said I own a 6 and touch ID works flawlessly for me even with dropbox. IMO doesn't need improvement, it's just fine right now.

A sample of one, but my 5S' Touch ID has worked quite well for me.

I understand that ForceTouch has some functionality tied to added pressure (like fast-forwarding or word lookup), but couldnt they simply implement "longtouch" for the same thing? What else can it do that we'll miss out on as "last-gen" users?

No, because long touch is indeterminate for most (how long, seemingly no one knows ;-), while a tap/stronger force is clearer and more intuitive. They're not the same thing at all.

I will be incredibly disappointed if they don't offer a 5-series size this time. I don't want a bigger phone. It's fine if others do, and happy they have the option*, but I don't.

Force Touch will be an amazing addition to the iPhone though, and open up a lot of new possibilities for app ideas and app features.

* (happy in abstract, though as a developer the 6/6+ are a pain to support)

Maybe they'll offer a 4GB 5S for $549.:D.

They've improved Touch ID from the 5s to the 6 models. I never had a single problem with Touch ID in any iPhone nor have anyone I know (about 10 people) with iPhones either.

Watch that Samsung Galaxy S6 getting a special breast cancer awareness edition next week...

Samsung already made a pink Galaxy phone. Right around the time they also released a gold Galaxy - right after the 5s launched.

Apple's returning the favor, I guess.

Since they're only mentioning pink then it leads me to think it's a pink gold, not an actual pink.

Kind of like Metal Pink Gold Princess Peach in Mario Kart 8

Damn! Wish apple release iphone 6c with 4". Same spec as iphone 6. I wouldnt mind if they release iphone 6m(ini) with same spec as 6s.

Pass. For two reasons:

  1. There's no way I'm upgrading from my iPhone 6 Plus just for force touch and a pink option.
  2. I upgrade every two years, and my iPhone 6 Plus will only be a year old.
Full disclosure: Only the second reason means anything. The first is total nonsense. For those currently carrying an iPhone 5S, and waiting anxiously for the 6S models to be released, I'm going to be so happy for you, and a little jealous for about 12 months until the iPhone 7 comes out in 2016.

Nobody was expecting you to upgrade.

I'm curious every time I see the "improved Touch ID" bullet point. Touch ID has worked essentially the same for me on both the 5s and the 6 as far as I can tell. How much better does it need to get?

Sure, if I have really dry skin in the winter, it doesn't work the first time every time; but that's to be expected and I wouldn't want it to work any other way. If Touch ID can't match my fingerprint because my skin is dry and my fingerprint doesn't match the fingerprint it has stored, I don't want it to let me in the phone. It's better to err on the side of security.

I think Apple has a better grasp on what would sell profitably than you do.
Possibly, though Apple is obviously fallible and has made many, many mistakes, including financial ones. That's also no reason why we cannot make suggestions.

Obviously there IS a market for 4 inch iPhones. Apple is selling them! (Currently Apple sells the iPhone 5s, 5c, and even 4s in certain markets. Even the iPhone 5 is still being quietly, "unofficially" sold at clearance through prepaid carriers.) My suggestion ("keep selling 4 inch iPhones") isn't a radical one, especially considering Apple's other actions. Apple discontinued the 17 inch MacBook Pro completely ("too big"), Apple dramatically shrank the Mac Pro, and Apple just introduced a 12 inch MacBook (smaller than the 13 inch MacBook Air and MacBook Pro). Apple introduced the iPad mini after the iPad. The second generation Apple TV was a big shrink from the first generation, and the AirPorts/Time Capsules all shrank, at least in footprint. And what is the Apple Watch? An iOS shrink, to the wrist. OBVIOUSLY there's a market for small(er) form factor devices, and that continues to be true with the iPhone. My specific suggestion describes how Apple could continue to serve the 4 inch iPhone market segment in a way that simplifies its product line, lowers its costs, better protects its flagship devices, and attracts more new iPhone customers, all of which contributes to Apple's revenues, profit, and marketshare. Not a radical idea!

I'm waiting to hear what camera improvements it will have. But I like the idea of this force touch.

me too.

right now the samsung s6 is *really* tempting me. but i'm not convinced by the camera.

this is a comparison of low light shots with s6 vs iphone 6 (and some other phones)

it really doesnt look even close to as dramatic as what samsung showed at their s6 event.

both s6 and iphone low light shots look fantastic.

I really hope they bring back a smaller version!
3.8, 4.7, 5.5

The rose gold option is a great idea !

I'd planned on letting the wife use her Gold iPhone 6 for another year, as I usually upgrade her every over year, but if a Rose Gold/Pink iPhone 6S drops, I'll have no choice but to upgrade her.
