Goona, did you even read his post? Seems like it was pretty positive about the Iphone to me....

Was there some "loyalty test" that we were supposed to pass in order to comment here?

I can't tell if thats sarcasm or not form MosX.

Even if Apple sold unlocked phones in America, because AT&T is the only company that sues standard GSM frequencies(?) you'd be stuck with AT&T anyway.

If I ever move to America I'm brining 10 Unlocked iPhones from NZ and selling them on Ebay for twice the price!

Verizon note to self:

Before ripping competitors 3G network apart because of essentially 2 bad spots in the nation (New York & San Francisco), do some research to uncover the facts that our 3G network is so slow that AT&T's 2G network is almost as fast as it, and their 3G network is almost twice as fast, and that it can handle voice and data at the same time, where our 3G network can NOT!

You really asked for it Verizon! :p

Summary

I remember reading about simultaneous voice/data in the past, but I kept forgetting about it. So let me get this straight. From the discussion here, it sounds like, currently:

- simultaneous voice and 3G data is possible on AT&T with the iPhone (I've confirmed this.)
- simultaneous voice and EDGE data is not possible on AT&T with the iPhone
- simultaneous voice and Wi-Fi data is possible with the iPhone (I've confirmed this.)
- simultaneous voice and 3G data is not possible on Verizon with any device
- simultaneous voice and 3G data is not possible on Sprint with any device

I've read claims about the first four before, but can't confirm the last one.

AT&T doesn't think people who live in rural areas deserve the latest in technology.
WTH are you talking about?

Exactly, this is what Apple and AT&T are clinging to then they are in deeper **** then I thought.

It doesn't respond to the main issue with AT&T and the point of Verizon's ads.. it's terrible 3G coverage. The city I live outside of, Asheville NC doesn't even have 3G coverage and it's a metro of about 400k. Hell we hardly get decent coverage with EDGE here nevermind 3G.

Yeah that is the reason why Verizon is the one that started attacking Apple and AT&T.

All I can do is laugh, drinking some cool aid.

Wow, this a feature I HAVE TO HAVE!!!! </sarcasm>

Come on... if all you can tout about your network is being able to talk and surf at the same time (AT&T also say theirs is faster, and there are some stats that prove it, but I doubt highly that's true in the less-crowded cities), then that's pretty much sad. I'd much rather be able to talk without getting disconnected and surf the web without losing signal.

Silly commercial... apparently the Verizon commercials are becoming a success -- AT&T ... AND APPLE ... are now spooked. With all the negative publicity of AT&T, it's a wonder Apple still wants to even remotely be associated with the name...

Yeah right Apple and AT&T should just sit there and let Verizon run their silly little commercials and shouldn't fight back.

You're kidding yourself if you don't think that Verizon's commercials weren't a direct response to the success of the iPhone.

40% of all iPhones sales are going to customers leaving their current carrier and moving to AT&T.

With as perfect as everyone thinks the grass is on Verizon's side, I'd guess the iPhone was probably the #1 reason people left Verizon.

So hey, let's make people scared of AT&T's network (rightfully so in some markets) and put an damper on the exodus... We'll make some commercials... Yeah, that's it!

didn't know there was anything special about this, being using this feature all the time since the first time I found myself needing to do it. How about, I'm on a conference call, take another call, lookup information for the caller using one my apps and then hang up with them and go back to my conference call and no one is the wiser. :D

Why in the heck would you sign a 2-year contract with Verizon for a phone that doesn't support LTE when Verizon is launching LTE in 30 markets in 2010?

That Island of Misfit Toys is going to get pretty crowded :D

Maybe they'll have a Droid II trade-up program after Christmas.

Yeah we should expect anything positive from you with regards to Apple.

What? I do love my iPhone. And my iPods. Especially my 80GB 5.5G using a true line-out connected to either my surround sound system or an amp for my headphones.

My ONLY problem with the iPhone is AT&T. I would go to T-Mobile, but their data and texting costs end up being more than AT&T.

Seems like it was pretty positive about the Iphone to me....

Was there some "loyalty test" that we were supposed to pass in order to comment here?

Exactly. I really do like my iPhone. And my iPods. Hell, I have 5 iPods after all. The only down side to the iPhone is AT&T. AT&T's network in southern California is worthless. Every other competing network out here is better, including T-Mobile.

I can't tell if thats sarcasm or not form MosX.

Even if Apple sold unlocked phones in America, because AT&T is the only company that sues standard GSM frequencies(?) you'd be stuck with AT&T anyway.

iPhones work just fine on T-Mobile using EDGE, since AT&T and T-Mobile use different frequencies for 3G. The problem is that Apple and AT&T illegally block people from unlocking the newer iPhones. Unlocking is currently LEGAL under the DMCA and both Apple and AT&T stop it. The only real issue is that nobody has the legal funds to take on AT&T and Apple in this regard to get them to abide by the law.

What are you talking about? I had a regular "dumb phone" on Verizon before the original iPhone and I was regularly getting speeds of over 1Mbps. Going to an EDGE iPhone was a huge step backwards in browsing speeds.

AT&T has way more bad spots than Verizon. You can pretty much count ALL of southern California as one giant bad spot for AT&T. I can't tell you how annoying it is when I see someone with a Boost Mobile phone getting a signal and chatting away when myself and none of my iPhone/AT&T friends can get a signal.

The problem is that AT&T's 3G network is so bad that you're more often than not on EDGE without even realizing it.

Another problem with that argument is that Verizon no longer cripples phones and they do offer phones with WiFi.

AT&T's network is so bad that it basically puts the iPhone on the same level as the Driod, you have to be around WiFi to use voice and data at the same time.

With as perfect as everyone thinks the grass is on Verizon's side, I'd guess the iPhone was probably the #1 reason people left Verizon.

The iPhone is why I left Verizon. AT&T's network is why I'll be switching back to Verizon.

Fight back with relevent information and features, or hell how about fight back and actually fix your network.

AT&T fought back with mentioning we get voice coverage, whoopie, people invest $2,000 over the course of the contract for voice coverage? Ha.

Then Apple responds with this, mentioning a pretty niche feature that only works on AT&Ts 3G network.

Except that millions of users in major metropolitan areas like NYC & San Francisco repeatedly report horrible reception and frequent dropped calls. AT&T really needs to shore up their network, but that's not secret to anyone.

Maybe these people need to get a better phone because I live in Los Angeles and I definitely get great signal here and 3G everywhere.

Went to NYC and the coverage was better there than it is in LA. San Fran was lacking though when it came to 3G coverage though. Very slow.

This is on an iPhone by the way.

Works on Rogers here in Canada as well. It's a nice feature. I can do other things on my iPhone while talking. Useful all around, except when driving, obviously.

If the Verizon fanboys on this thread had this feature, you would see how how much trumpeting of it they would be doing.

Context, my friend, I think it's more then clear that I'm talking about the US.
Well, in the US, T-Mobile and AT&T can do simultaneous data and voice, but I'm sure you've picked that up from the preceding 100 posts pointing that out. Again, not an AT&T only feature.

And thanks for the press releases and PR stuff, I'll tell you when I stop dropping calls and get 3G coverage.
You wanted them to respond with facts and you want them to fix their network, no?

Did you actually look at the page?

They explain what they're doing to fix their network, and every time they turn on 3G in a new city, they post it there.
