Lat time I checked, AT&T did not have phone sales outside of the US, which is what Verizon is going after.

You are reading into this way too much

No, it's a valid point. An AT&T phone will work in nearly every country in the world. With a Verizon phone, you're limited to the US, Canada, maybe Mexico and a small handful of other countries that operate CDMA networks (mainly in Asia and Africa). Your phone would be a brick in Europe. It's definitely a valid point for anyone who travels the world.

Pretty good. I had no freakin' idea you could MMS while on a call in 3G or use maps. I thought I was tech savvy:rolleyes: Im such a noob:p

Tell you what I gave up 3 original iphones with AT&T and I will never go back to such a crappy service. The maps are true and correct. I drive for a living and never in all the time I have had cell phone service that dropped more calls then ever before. In a 500 mile trip on average from PA to CT on AT&T I lost calls about 8-10 times a night and had no service fro miles along the I-84 highway in New York beginning Mile marker 55 or so. With Verizon I lose maybe 1 or 2 calls a night and that only because of the D.O.T scales knocking off service... So no matter what AT&T sucks and that just a fact and not a commercial. I feel sorry for you Apple you just turned a lot of would have been customers against.. You should have stayed out of it and left the truth be told.. Now you going to be looked at like a company that just about money from AT&T..What a shame. Now I want to get rid of my Blackbook and go back to PC any takers ??? Apple you suck for that dirty move against a scum run company..... Mike B (Verizon Customer)
:confused::confused::confused::confused:

Mike B, you have some serious personal issues man. Lets be clear, and I'm talking as an outsider to the US but reasonably frequent visitor, ALL the US networks are pretty rubbish, lets be honest. But you have to understand that Apple have an agreement with AT&T, and as business partners they have an unwritten obligation to support each other. Let's not forget, both companies are there to make a profit!

Personally, I think the ad's are great, very funny really. And come on, you want to sell your Blackbook? Gee's, you want your mom to wipe your butt too? Grow UP!

To guess that Verizon has zero dropped calls is silly. All carriers have dropped calls. I've had Sprint for 10 years and have had about a dozen drop calls. Most were when traveling outside a major city. Why do you think Apple went to Verizon first? Because At&T had a better network? Everyone I know that has an iPhone says the service was much better with their previous carrier.

Anecdotal evidence is not really evidence in the grand scheme of things.

Apple just smacked down Verizon! I love these wars. ;)

I guess the next question will be from Verizon: "Ever want to make a phone call, and not have your call drop? Can your phone on AT&T do that?"

Zing!

I doubt they would want to go there, seeing as how people drop calls on Verizon.

Quote from 2nd ad....

Why oh why does Apple continue to use statements like this that just reinforce the worst stereotypes about users of Apple products?

SUSHI!!!!! Geez, how wimpy is that!!!

It's hip, stylish, and references the same. It's perfect, and it's what SELLS.

Sushi is IN, by the way. It's incredibly popular, and there is a certain refinment to Sushi as a food choice. It shows taste.

One thing that has been bugging me for awhile now is, how do you get your contact's picture as a small box next to their name like in the commercials? I only get a background of their pic when they call.

Apple just blew a massive hole in Verizon's non-iPhone "game plan." Some dumb carrier vs. Apple in advertising. LOL, it's a horrible mismatch.

Weird... Apple going after the Sushi demographic rather than the Long John Silvers demographic? Who would have thought

population coverage

Verizon's 3g *area* coverage may by 5 times ATT's.

The relevant comparisons are:
- total *population* coverage (probably close)
- 3G *population* coverage (at most 33% better for Verizon)

But it's far too defensive to admit lesser or equal coverage in an ad, and ATT has probably done as well as it could trying to make this point.

/popcorn.... *omnomnomnom*

Love these big corporate ad wars. So entertaining. With all this mud-flinging it's lookin' like a literal sh**storm in the sandbox lately. Got to wonder: are the engineers on either side of the sh**storm doing any innovating while all this is going on, or are they waiting for the smoke from this latest pissing contest to settle? The commercials are great but seriously keep the innovation flowing so there's no need for such bickering to begin with. (i.e. AT&T, add less suck to your network, please.) Rather than side-stepping and detracting from the issue at hand -- work on the issue at hand, and maybe make a public statement to that effect. Ah yeah that's right, AT&T, you need a bit of time (& $$) to invest to add less suck to your network. So in the meantime what can you do?? AHHHHHHHH. Change the subject. I applaud yours (& Apple's) effort.

Ah well, whatever. In the end the choice is the power & responsibility of the consumer! Verizon, AT&T and certainly not precious Cupertino will ever take that away.

Continue to exercise your freedoms as an informed and responsible consumer. And to each his/her own!

The ads have some risks:
People who are outside of 3G coverage, or who fail back to EDGE because of 3G congestion, are sure to try this out and not understand why it doesn't work.
True, but the same goes for MMS service. Apple has already made multiple disclaimers regarding service availability in certain areas.
Verizon's answer to Apple: Yes, using voip.
LOL. Nice try though.

I think the Apple commercials are pretty positive overall, and do a remarkeably good job of touting THEIR advantages while not even mentioning the competition, even by inference. They simply ask if the viewer's carrier network can DO what was demonstrated. For Sprint and Verizon customers, the answer is the same qualified "NO" that AT&T customers have to give when asked about any potential networks coverage advantage/parity compared to Verizon. That SOME WiFi capable devices could conceivably do both, seems beside the point when its ALL about celluar voice/data these days. That EDGE cannot, also seems beside the point.

Hillbilly Town

AT&T's 3G covers about 75% of all Americans....that's not small. Maybe they don't cover some hillbilly town in the middle of nowhere (at least not yet). But where most of us live/work, they cover. They do where I live/travel.

I live in a Hillbilly Town in "the middle of nowhere" (Given, West Virginia) and have perfect 3G service from AT&T on two iPhones. Most of WV has flawless 3G service with few if any dropped calls or other problems.

Just my $0.02.

Wow! Even Apple feels the Verizon ads have merit

The holiday buying season is upon us and Apple decided to bolster up the weakest and most disappointing thing about their GREAT product: the ATT network. Clearly, Apple is doing what it can to make sure holiday sales remain strong: they know....they really DO know how bad the ATT network is but Christmas is upon us so its time to sell, Sell SELL!

Bravo Verizon. Your adds are working! :D

Sincerely,

A totally dissatisfied ATT customer living in San Diego

The whole point of this exclusivity bullsh*t is that it doesn't allow people a choice.[/QUOTE said:
I did not hear people complaining when Verizon had the best phones. Now that AT&T clearly has a superior product on their hand everyone wants the exclusivity deals to go away. I think they should stay and the iPhone should only be on AT&T. This will force Verizon to push the phone makers they work with to develop better phones and in turn push :apple: to continue to improve the iPhone. In the end we will be the winners since the phones will continue to improve.

When you add the picture in Address Book on your computer.

Who cares how good the phones are. Having AT&T for service is like driving a Ferrari with wooden wheels. Your not gonna get too far, nor get there too fast.

Has anyone noticed that when ATT speaks up, everyone here says to ****, but when Apple says something, everyone hear agrees?

When I looked at these comments, I expected a whole different reaction, but I guess that doesn't matter.

So very true. I was thinking the exact same thing.

I especially like how no one even responded to your comment.

AT&T puts out an ad with Luke Wilson last week using the very same thing Apple is bringing to light as one if its five bullet points and everyone tells them to suck it up and that they can't even get on 3G to begin with, much less make simultaneous calls. Apple says the exact same thing and they're suddenly sticking it to the man and burning Verizon.

(The real irony will be when the iPhone eventually lands on Verizon and we start hearing claims about how unrivaled their network is...)

Verizon even has exclusive phones, heck the Droid is exclusive but you don't know hear anybody whining about that. That's how the phone business works, you start out exclusive and then move onto other carriers. People act like the iphone is the only phone that is exclusive.

And who are you, spokesperson for AT&T's 80 million plus customers?
