No Touch

Trust me people, no touch in Lion. I have a close associate who develops software for Apple and he's informed me that no one he knows of is working on anything that can be done with touch.

Also, a major switch over to a cloud-based disk system, much better implemented than iDisk.

He got the preAplha version today but couldn't get it to download (he works from home, not at an office), I doubt it will have any of the new UI but if it does I'll post my report on it later on this thread.

EDIT:: Forgot to mention, there should also be a "App Store" for OSX introduced. It'll be a lot like the current App store for iOS, i believe implemented through iTunes and should make finding/buying applications for your computer a lot simpler. Note: This will NOT be the only way to actually download apps, you can still download apps how you used to, this will just be a new way of doing it.

Lower prices please! What good is a great OS and reliable hardware if only a small majority can enjoy it?

I feel that way about Aston Martins and Breitlings. Except, that's WHY they're Aston Martins and Breitlings. You want the best, you gotta save for it. I calculate that I'll be able to afford an Aston 68 years after I die. And that's if I die when I'm 172!

Personally, I think the event will be a roaring success.

Really? Did I just say that?

[Sorry!]

More than anything, I think 10.7 will be all about the cloud. Hopefully, these features won't require paid MobileMe subscription, but I suspect cloud-based syncing of data such as documents, music, video, photos, calendar, contact, and application settings (e.g., browser bookmarks and cookies) between Macs and iOS devices will be the main focus. iTunes Store and App Store will become web-based and iTunes app will be used primarily to manage and play media files once again.

I think a lot of people are going to be disappointed. Just look back on past events and what was announced. And I highly doubt there's gonna be a "1 More Thing".

I hope it's gonna be a good announcement, but we'll probably be getting the bare minimum.

I don't know if anyone noticed this but...

We all know what the Lion means. OS X Lion, period. For the next paragraph, pretend it's not there, but that there's just white instead.

Good grief. Let's pretend that your aunt is male and is now your uncle.

The Apple is a 'door' to what lies beneath. They are going to crack the door partially open and give you a sneak peak at the Lion. Not the whole Lion, but part of it. End of story. No convoluted inference to make.

They are not going to want to talk about 7" iPad , Antennagate post free bumpers, iOS rumors , iPhone sales , white iPhone, etc. Just mac stuff.

It is a funky Apple "door" because that brings the attention to Apple. The company and world famous logo. They want you to see the logo.
It is presented uniquely so you won't miss it even if you seen it hundreds of times before.

Nice. I thought it would be a couple weeks more. Is it just me or does the lion look like it's behind a trackpad? Also, if there were to be upgrades, would you think it'd be worth it to upgrade from my "discrete" MBP (w/ the powerbook body?).

Data integrity (checksums ) and volume management.

No seriously, let the other poster reply. People post about wanting a "New Filesystem!" all the time, but I bet most of those people don't really understand what is lacking in HFS+ or wouldn't be able to say what it is they are looking for.

And feature for feature parity with ZFS or BTRFS is not really required for consumer level machines. While volume management would be nice, it can be seperate from the filesystem level, which would actually help Apple ship it faster (LVM2 is mature, there's plenty of knowledge on making it work out there already, and it's multi-system. VxVM could be licensed and ported by Symantec, it's very powerful and also very well known).

Filesystem checksums is probably overkill. Consumer type machines and workstations do just fine with journaling for data integrity.

Of course, many of these could just be retrofitted with HFS+, saving a lot of effort for Apple.

Which doesn't require actually rewriting HFS+ according to your own wiki article. Seriously folk, stop simply quoting other FS' feature list and actually come up with some use cases where HFS+ is lacking and has caused you headache. Much less stress and heartache when Apple doesn't ship a new FS.

LVM2 would be plenty good. Make it part of Disk Utility and enable the installer to create volume groups and logical volumes on boot.

For everyone that want's a Cougar operating system, they already had Puma (OS 10.1) which is the same thing as a Cougar so I don't think it will happen.. :(

Also to me, the banner looked like a trackpad with the Lion coming through. To me that kinda indicated that the trackpad is going away revealing the Lion OS which (hopefully) doesn't need a trackpad, aka Touch OS. A man can dream right?

Ahhh, it's nice to see the positive/negative vote ratio on this article. Take that, iPhluff!

OS 11 - launched 11/11/11 at 11:11:11...

2 fingers to make the number 11 in the logo

ooooooo ;)

So the MacBook pros ran on the nvidia 9400m for a long time right. Now only a couple months ago they switched to the 330m gt. So that means that there is a very small chance of the graphics card update right? Correct me if I am wrong. Unfortuneately, the graphics card is the only thing I real care about hardware wise.

But could 10.6.5 or 10.7 have a software graphics update?

I think the new program in ilife will be a simple iOS development tool for making simple programs like the way iWeb makes webpage templates...

just a thought.

How about the TRM command? And bring back a multi user version of Hypercard based off of SQL? (I know, it will not happen but it would be nice.)

I would love if they did something with the iMAC, as I'm getting one end of the month :D
