Lion, ocelot, cougar. That's all i can think of. (Cougar gets my vote for 10.7)

Google searched for Cougar:

Hardware

Where is USB3.0 and SATA3? At least USB3.0 is now part of many low end budget PC:s. SSD stalls on waiting for slow SATA2 bus. A PC buyer looking at the spec for any mac laugh about the price and technology.

How about a new Mac - not iMac, Mac Pro or MacBook - just a Mac.

i7 guts of the iMac with a couple of full size hard drives and some half decent graphics would do nicely.

actually a mountain lion is the same as leopard and puma.

Not exactly true. A mountain lion is the same as a puma, cougar, and panther (and other names) not leopard though. So depending on how technical apple is they're aren't many more cats.

But a lion is king of the beasts. Nothing can top it. After 10.7 comes 11?

Haha, I posted the same thing on Twitter. Speculation would lead me to think that this could be the last revision of OS X. I would imagine that Apple would preview the OS, but it wouldn't come out until 9 - 12 months from now, which pegs us at fall 2011.

From that point, Apple usually lets their OS last 18 months, so we are looking at OS 11 being released in 3 years? Sounds about right to me.

Ooh blessed it be! Mac news! OSX news!! Incredibly exciting! This is like a breath of fresh air after the endless iOS/iPhone/iPad/MS windows 7 mobile threads.... :D

You know Steve did mention grade A upgrades across all mac hardware - I would argue the i3-i7 in the MBP was a good move but I think then can do a little more.

It doesn't follow their usual upgrade path though to do more than a slight spec bump unless there is a redesign which I don't think we will see. I do wonder what will be done with the graphics cards (stay the same or an upgrade?). I think there will definitely be a hardware revision of some sort on the MBP line along with OSX 10.7

"Back to the Mac" means that they know they've been focusing on iOS a lot lately. I would expect a MacBook Air refresh (slightly new design), some speed bumps with the other computers, and the announcement of the new OS X.

I'm hoping for:
  1. A new user interface
  2. "Put Back" in Trash that isn't greyed out 90% of the time
  3. Some new multi-touch OS X computer
  4. OS X Lion that supports multi-touch for existing applications in some way?
  5. Some cool new features (no way!)

Here here to the new MBA. But not a refresh, a complete re-imagining. It's been far too long.

My prediction:
-New MacBook Air
-Small MacBook Family Refresh
-Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion?) Preview
-Did anyone else notice how the background from the invite kind of looks like the aluminum MacBook Pro trackpad? (a hint from Apple?)
-Will we finally see a touch-based iMac? (probably not but who knows?!)
-Some iPad talk? Probably not!
-iLife 2011 (I sure hope so!): iChat with Facetime (could be something big)
-iWork 2011

What I would like is near 15" MBP performance in a 13" package. Please give us a Core i processor, 4GB+ DDR3 1333mhz memory, at least 256MB of DEDICATED Vram for the GPU. I am willing to open it up myself, and swap out the hard drive with one of those new OCZ Agility 2 SSD drives, which offer up to 285 MB/s read speeds, and up to 275 MB/s write speeds.

I installed one of those OCZ Agility 2 SSD drives two weeks ago on a fairly new 2.2 GHz Core 2 Duo Lenovo laptop, and it was scary fast (full virus scan on the drive with 35GB+ of data on it in less than 17 minutes, Windows 7 Pro boots up in about 16-17 seconds).

Didn't Apple already announce at a previous event that their holiday lineup was complete?

I'd expect this to deal with Mac OS X and some of those "new, revolutionary" features they were hiring for.

That was last October following the release of the 21.5"/27" iMac. People were still waiting for i3/i5/i7 MBP's, so Apple said the line-up was set as it was, in order to get more people to buy MBP's for Thanksgiving/Christmas, instead of wait for the update.

Wow this is very exciting.
First toughts upon seeing the invitation:
1. the silver background is like the notebok line (pro & air)
2. Th turning logo implies i think of something really slim as well (air)
3. New OS named lion but then what? OS XI? I dont thing they can nput another cat after the king right?

1. To me, looks the same as what you've mentioned. However, could be Magic Trackpad?
2. That looks like it could be a transition between the above-mentioned Magic Trackpad and the regular OS "Lion" (in the same way that you enter Time Machine). i.e. a slight integration between iOS & OSX? Nothing major though, that would come with 10.9 or 11?
3. Seems to be nailed on to be called "Lion". We'll no doubt see a preview.

Personally, I'm just glad that we're FINALLY back to talking about OS rumours. Not just iPad/iPhone/iPod updates, or even updates to the MBP's/iMacs, but we're finally going to get a glimpse of a future operating system.

Snow Leopard wasn't that much of a change from Leopard, so it'll be nice to see the next "big" step forward in terms of the OS.

iLife/iWork 11 to be announced/released? More integration between the desktop and iOS apps I'd expect and should be pretty sweet.

For those waiting for a MacBook Air refresh, it will be nice to see them FINALLY put out of their misery (assuming that is, indeed, happening!). :D

10.7 Lion
10.8 Mountain Lion :D

I hope they stream this media event live like they did the Sept 1st event.

WORD! stream it! stream it! stream it! it was a lot better to see apple's stream then to try and keep up with gizmodo's or mac rumors' updates.
