Pissed off. Just ordered a Macbook Pro and now it seems the update is closer than I thought.
I suppose I can get it returned and order again right?

Taking back what they learned making the touch driven iOS and applying it more fully to the Mac?

Or is it hinting at Back to the Future? Maybe instead of having Time Machine only allow you to go back, they'll let you go forward in time! No more spending hours writing massive papers and presentations! You can just skip forward to when it's done already!

On a more serious note, I'd like this to focus on new software. New Mac OS X, new iLife, new iWork. Maybe even new Pro Tools! I'm not planning on replacing my iMac for another 2-3 years...

Oh, and I'll bet we see a new App store for the Mac. It won't be the only way to get apps, obviously, but it'll be the easiest for consumers.

10.5?

So will this mean 10.5 goes end-of-life and no more security updates?

And by extension, all pre-Intel hardware becomes officially obsolete?

If so, I'd better offload my G5 iMacs pretty soon then...

Steve.

Apple own the the trademark to Lynx as well as Lion, but I'm not sure how that would work in the UK (Axe body spray is called Lynx in the UK)

I'm surprised apple doesn't stop selling to the UK, like every product they want to release lately is already named in the UK

Still a few titles left...

10.7 Lion
10.8 Liger
10.9 Pus$y Cat (Cat can be removed for marketing or taunting purposes)

I want the new iLife 11. Please lord have a new iWeb with SEO integrated tools and much more. Can't wait to see what the new app is going to be.

iLife 11
MacBook Refresh
10.7
and one more thing.

Maybe the apple is not opening but closing, maybe now they're moving from cats.
Its so obvious what animal it is, why give it away?

I doubt MBA will be introduced there UNLESS it's something major, e.g. 11.6" model etc. Apple has done significant updates silently in the past, 27" iMacs for instance so they won't waste time on MBA if it's just a minor spec change.

It sounds very interesting and promising though, lets keep our thumbs up!

If they don't announce macbook air at this event, then might as well as drop this thing.

Perhaps the "one more thing" will be that the iPhone will be coming to Verizon? That would be a huge event for Apple! The OSX clan gets a long awaited main event and the people waiting for a VZW iPhone will finally get their announcement at the end. I could totally see Apple sneaking a VZW iPhone into an OSX event to make everybody happy all the way around.

Considering this is titled "Back to the Mac" I would speculate there will be no ipod/iphone/ipad/atv updates or announcements. Maybe some mentions regarding laptop/desktop integration.

<snip> 10.7 - Presumed Lion /<snip>
Can we call it "Presumed Lion? That sounds awesome

Presumably so.

I doubt this version will have touchscreen capability, it seem so soon. OS X 11 seems like the logical touch-screen capable version.

It would be os 11. Or OS XI. SL is OS 10.6.4. If it were OS 10.11, we will be waiting a while.

Well, if they do 10.8 Cougar they could go over to the MILF word family.

You sir, win the internet.

iLife 11
MacBook Air update
OS 10.7: Lion
one more thing: iTunes moving to the cloud, and/or free MobileMe! :)

Notebook hardware update? They were only updated like 6 months ago and nothing monumental has developed since then, 10.7 is all we'll see I think.

Yeaeah Mac Rumors!

Dear Apple,

Apart from adding things that are awesome that I didn't even know I needed,
Please fix spotlight (at least to how good it was in 10.4)
Please fix preview text searching
Please add better inbuilt expression recognition for magic mouse, magic touchpad thing.
Please fix all bugs and give us more control over smb file sharing.

Thanks.:apple:

"Back to the Mac" means that they know they've been focusing on iOS a lot lately. I would expect a MacBook Air refresh (slightly new design), some speed bumps with the other computers, and the announcement of the new OS X.

I'm hoping for:
  1. A new user interface
  2. "Put Back" in Trash that isn't greyed out 90% of the time
  3. Some new multi-touch OS X computer
  4. OS X Lion that supports multi-touch for existing applications in some way?
  5. Some cool new features (no way!)

This is a welcome surprise.

Just yesterday i was watching an old Apple Keynote with Steve Jobs going into great depths about the 'Mac OS X' Beta that was coming out back in the OS 8 days, and he went into so much detail about the underlying framework (remember this was at a MacWorld Keynote).

Compared to today where everything is about iPhones and iPads, i do miss the days when Steve would sound very excited about a new Mac OS and its underlying framework, or would spend ages talking about the new features of an iMac or iBook.

Based on the OS announcement to release cycle, it would make sense that they announce now, get a developer preview in hand at WWDC and then release in late fall of next year although there are 2 wrenches in those gears.

The first is that for the last 2 years WWDC has been all about iOS. So either (a) there is a return of focus in WWDC to OS X or (b) early next year they'll announce a brand new OS X focused conference.

The second issue is that it seems kind of odd to release a brand new OS as holiday time approaches. I would think you'd want to get it released in late summer so your new machines for the holidays would ship with it and you might even get a 10.7.1 release out the door for the inevitable kinks so people have the best user experiences possible.

As for features of 10.7, who knows (only :apple: of course). However, I would hope that with Snow Leopard's focus on the under the hood type stuff, we'd see more really nice end-user type features show up. Maybe this is where we finally see the "marble" interface?!? Maybe, this is where they bring ZFS support?!? There's all sorts of features that have been floated over the last several years that could get baked in. :)
