Apple: "we're sorry we got caught"

Caught doing what? They explained themselves... their motives weren’t malicious so there was nothing for them to be “caught” doing. Did you read the article or Apple’s press release?

Also, how did this get 200 upvotes?

I thought this was a forum for 1) intelligent discussion and 2) Apple fans.

How are there 200 people here liking a comment which fails to grasp the issue at hand and who are so quick to be anti-Apple?

Say what you want about them, but good on Apple for stepping up to the plate by addressing the issue and offering a solution. This is what keeps customers coming back.

Even if they were “caught” I respect their ability to acknowledge what’s going on and taking the steps to correct the situation.

Caught implies malicious intent. If this was the case Apple would say “we are going to stop what we’re doing” which they have not said. iOS will still slow down your battery if it stops your phone from powering down, just FYI.

Apple is so sorry that Tim Cook deserved a $21 million bonus this year. This battery issue was good business.

Amazing how so many are just rolling over, accepting this sad sorry apology fluff piece from Apple.

Apple knew exactly what is was doing. This poor compensation is nowhere good enough and long enough.

You raise a valid point . Apple has omitted to state the speed , they just claims is x faster etc.

Well, they do get up in stage in front of he worlds press and proudly show charts and talk about how much faster iPhone X is then X.

From Apples iPhone X webpage:

The four efficiency cores in the all-new CPU are up to 70 per cent faster than A10 Fusion. And the two performance cores are up to 25 per cent faster

http://www.apple.com/uk/iphone-x/

The key thing is ‘up to’, however I doubt people would expect it to have the potential to throttle itself after a few months of heavy use to the same speeds as the iPhone 7 or slower.

Glad for the ppl that will get new&original battery for 29$, at least in the States. Glad for all bcs we'll get, I presume, number of battery cycles and capacity within iOS devices. All we need now is paypal account of person/ppl that discovered this **** to send some money for the things they like.

You say intelligent discussion.....

So do tell me, did you even read the OP of the thread ? You could not have , as Apple is taking action to address an issue they deem needs attention.

So explain why Apple has offered to reduce the $79 battery fee, and change the way the user is informed about thier battery? They have run out of bugs/issues to fix in iOS is.... how about we make this an intelligent discussion.... feel free to contribute with something substantial and intellectual that contributes to this topic and not a whinge .

MR is for everyone : not just fans

Thankyou for your reply. I feel then that the mods are failing to do their job in keeping the forums troll-free.

What have you contributed ? The irony lol...

It was a few years ago. Not so much anymore.
I can assure you that pretty much the same comment has been made every year since the inception of this forum. Which either means things have been going downhill consistently every year or that we see the past with too rosy eyes (it is probably a mixture of both, but I think the second component is much more relevant than most people think).

Hahahahahahaha, this makes my day! LUCKY to have a company like apple in this "corrupt world"?
You mean the same apple that dodges the american tax for 34 million dollar by taking the 'Amsterdam route"?
The same apple that uses kiddies from 10-12 years old to make their Ipone's??
The same apple that write's software wich makes your iphone "invalid", by slowing down your Iphone (without telling you!) so you buy a new one??
The same Apple that dont give ONE s**** about other country's law about warrenty of 2 years and giving you one instead?
The same apple that now offers their apology, because they are scaired of all the new lawsuits? and sell you a new battery for $29.00 (that cost less then $10.-)?
You mean THAT apple?

Man, you should be a comedian! You made me laugh! :)
Hmmm they *force* you to upgrade your software? No —-that too you do by choice.

Go enjoy your Samesong that is controlled by your *carrier* and leaves your device wide open to global exploits without ANY regard about your security whatsoever.

One last thing. The vast majority of *iphone* “owners” are really “lessees” like me and have a brand new phone each and every year or upgrade cycle - again by choice— and aren’t impacted at all. At all.

When my $3000 LG refrigerator breaks down once the warranty ends am I gonna cry conspiracy? See how far you get at LG. My 2014 Ford Explorer — a $60k car — after 2 years ALL the door seals literally shredded away - all of them — I paid for a bumper to bumper extended warranty — I was 2000 miles over the limit of the warranty — Ford wants $1400 to replace them... tell me — who do I complain to about it ? You? What are you gonna do about it?

Many of you scream “Oh the injustice of Apple”... omg.

Baloney. Apparently many here live in some sort of Apple only bubble. Bull. We are all being ripped off left and right each and every day in far more heinous ways than this nothing scandal.

I can say with a certainty - the majority of us are LUCKY there is still an Apple to go in this corrupt world we live in.

When software updates include security patches, I think there’s more than a valid reason to update, no? When this secret code is slipped in with these updates, then I feel this is wrong.

Still is. Are you suggesting that everything Apple say and do is with our best interests at heart? The post has been liked so much because a lot more people that took the time to post disagree with you.
Whether their motives are malicious or not remains to be proven. Knowing how companies work, (all companies), they knowing and actively strike a balance between telling the customer the truth and making the best quality product they can against the cost of doing so.
Without even sitting on the board I can guarantee you they went through an analysis internally of what to do/say about this problem. They routinely lie and mislead, (again all companies do this). What's being questioned is the extent of that lie.

Jesus wept, don't be so blinkered.

Off topic, but you spent $60k on an Explorer. Wow.

That’s when iPhones became impossibly thin.

iPhone thickness and battery capacity aren't related.

You answered with the equivalent of a grammar difference, that’s not a reasonable discussion.

No I didn't. Go and read back.

It's very clever markerting .

I give them respect , from not making official numbers public :) very useful in situations like this .

No I didn't. Go and read back.
Let me ask you this. Would a thicker phone enable the use of a bigger battery? Of course they are related. Wow, just wow. Try getting a 10mm thick battery in a 9mm thick phone and tell me again how there is no relation.

Man I don’t think Apple really read fully their announcement Thursday.

Anyone else get the feeling of a new hard hitting Samsung Commercial coming soon?!

Note 7 with explosive batteries. News, Samsung began investigations, airlines banned it on flights, PS4/Xbox/PC gaming for GTA highlights explosive Note 7’s, late night tv comedians have their crack at jokes as well. Samsung with providers globally do recalls, Samsung pays the bill of All returns, major investigation internally, changed battery measuring readouts, suppliers. Launches Note 8 with significant discount to previous owners of Note 7 (upwards of $300US in some cases) in several countries and regions. All this with no direct intent nor fault from a Samsung but they fixed the problem.

Apple - intentionally slowing performance after denying battery replacement for degraded batteries in end users phones. Apple ‘oh we’re sorry, you can replace the batteries now it’ll only cost you $29, instead of the regular $79 until December 2018’.

And Tim still has his private jet paid for by company dollars as a security measure of him being paid too much when their the ones giving him a $3.1 million bonus this year?!

What our talking bout Willis?!?

It's so funny to see adults bicker about a phone. A majority (>50% ie) people here dont even use phones for as long for this to affect them and they are still bickering about it. Well.

You want a 10mm thick 5.8 display phone? Do you even realize how bulky it would be? The iPhone X is already 10% thicker than iPhone 7. Battery size is not going to do anything to help this current problem, if you think it does, you dont know or dont want to understadn what the problem is.

Yes of course, if you made the phone thicker you could fit in a bigger battery, but that is disregarding everything else that goes into engineering a smartphone, and that is not what we're talking about anyway.

As it is, the thickness of iPhones is not related to the battery capacity of said iPhones.
