The ABS example makes perfect sense. Is the driver really going to know exactly what speed or pavement conditions need to exist before ABS activates? No. Is the driver really going to know exactly how long ABS will activate? No. All the driver knows is that the car has ABS. In this case, Apple responded to complaints about auto shutdowns (that were themselves a built-in safety feature to prevent damage) and added a functionality that would slow the processor down to the level necessary to prevent an auto shutdown. That's it.

Another example with cars would be mileage per tank of gas. It's not always going to be the same due to changes in speed (which effects mileage per gallon), but how many drivers have specific knowledge of the ratio between speed and mileage for their specific vehicle? Very few.

So let me get this straight.... since you brought up a good example.... you would be okay with the car taking over and slowing down suddenly when you are driving ? To maintain mileage per tank.... no... no...very dangerous ;)

ABS example makes no sense . unless you want to say that the ABS will not kick in at times to preserve the tyres ....

Demonstrate that Apple actually did something deceptive. Users complained about auto shutdowns, which are a safety feature that prevents damage to the phone in specific load/charge situations. Apple added a software feature that prevented the auto shutdown by slowing processor speed so that continued operation wouldn't cause damage. So all they're doing is adding an extra layer to a safety mechanism already engineered into the phone at purchase.
If it's a safety issue experienced by millions then the phone should be recalled. Period.

Man, but we should have phone equiped with everything that we bought in package. That’s the deal. I pay what I get. I think, apple should at least let us downgrade our phones to the latest version of ios. I mean ios which was released in this year when we bought phones (iphone 7—10.3.3).

You do have that. And what was in that package? A lithium-ion battery.

You know what happens to those when you charge them a thousand times? Their capacity degrades.

What are the consequences of this? A shorter battery life or a slower speed.

If you are so sure that it has happened, why can you not show me even a single case?

I did have my 3GS replaced back in the day out of warranty, but it wasn’t for battery issues. The WiFi was temperamental. I didn’t quote the sales of goods act, the guy just replaced it.

If you bought an iPhone then you did so knowing that the battery is non-replaceable. Apple is stating upfront that (except for warranty issues) they don’t expect the battery to be replaced. They expect you to buy a new iphone when the battery wears out. Is this something this is not known?

You can’t be serious? This is wrong on so many levels!

Believe it or not but most people I think understand rechargeable batteries wear out and need to be replaced after a period of time. They fully expect that the battery in their phones can be replaced. It was always this way for phones before the iPhone and for other devices long before that (Walkman etc)! Only Apple has tried to be so hostile to their customers about battery replacements.

Transparency kills the conspiracy. Apple lied to its users first then offered half bake explanation then wants charge 25 dollars to clean up this mess?

Good for Apple's shareholders. It now get another billions of dollar with this stupid battery replace program
The 25 dollars is for out of warranty replacement. Your battery is warrantied for 1 year, 2 with AC+. Beyond that you're on your own.

Have you ever brought a car in for an out of warranty repair? Is it free?

We have a difference of opinion about the use of the word "lie"; where you say "lie" I say "transparency".

Well you are right about one thing, offering the battery replacement at a reduced cost will net the shareholders a bit of money. But also get a device fixed at a much lower cost than normal.

They didn't lie.

The mess isn't theirs, it's a physical consequence of lithium ion batteries.

So I'd this is such great thing and the brother Apple is doing for users seek, why not lie about it. Why Apple tell user the battery is in good condition yet slow the phone done?

Apple can never wash themselves clean, when they lied to its users.

And Apple now wants to charge user 25 dollars to clean up the mess Apple made? Such a joke company

Very true. Charging a cent when they're about to be sued to the tune of billions is a bit of a chuckle. Ah well.

And to whoever asked why the throttling occurs even on new batteries that havent "failed" , it's because the phones are defective upon manufacturing or the CPU is or some process that would have made it costly to recall and replace, and that's what every judge and jury will say. There's no denying that covering this up has profited Apple tremendously. The number one most valid complaint, stands on its own.

This is like an auto-maker not recalling their cars when they knew parts were defective. Think the recent GM recall

Let apple be sued and go to jail for this .... we have our customer rights we can't let apple take over that .. US senator Marco Rubio posted a tweet earlier https://twitter.com/marcorubio/status/946733522156425216

You’re right. That’s why they apologized. What else would you like done to rectify the situation?
the only solution is to disable that throttling crap or offer an option to do that .. if refused then the only solution is to notify affected users and offer free battery replacement. everyone I know with ip6/+ and orig. battery is experiencing huge slowdown with ios11

So iphones are only good for one year without expensive refurb and service?

Wowzers. Is that what you get for a $1750 phone?

Ah, so it never dawned on you that all those "IPHONE BATTERY REPLACEMENT WHILE YOU WAIT" kiosks at the local mall actually did battery replacements for iPhones?

Apple didn't "get you". You got yourself. Sold your iPhone 6 for no reason. At the BMW dealership no one told me that my tires needed to be replaced after 20,000 miles yet a) I replaced my tires when their lifespan was up and b) I didn't buy a new car because of the worn tires.

Actually BMW will tell you precisely that either after few years or specific number of Km (whatever comes first) you have to change your tires.

Changing subject from your extremely poor BMW example and getting back to reality there were people with slow iphones who went to Apple stores to see if they could do something about that and the OFFICIAL response was that the iphone is old and there is NOTHING you can do other than a factory reset.

So you ignored all these reports that people being told battery is fine with Apple Store Employee? If the battery is fine, then why throttling the phone?

Depends, it'd have to be looked at on a case by case basis because the slowdown on those may not necessarily be caused by battery throttling.

The mechanism would be nice if it had been accompanied with at least some kind of a notification to the user. "Hey, I'm running in reduced performance mode due to the battery being in a weak condition, you might want to get the battery checked to resume normal performance" would've done wonders together with a more liberal battery replacement policy (i.e. not turning away customers with money in their hand when the diagnostics say the battery's just not quite dead enough yet). Not telling about this throttling AND refusing the cheaper repair method is a combination where at least I can't blame anyone for suspecting Apple of foul play. While I'd like to believe Apple's explanation as purely benign, I have also some suspicions at the back of my mind as there are just too many factors which point at something being fishy regardless of what Apple actually intended.

I have a question for all of you what ditched your 6/6P/6S/6SP.

Did you think to set the phone up as new? Erasing all content and settings and restoring the phone to factory settings would’ve made your phone MUCH better.

I know so many people who don’t properly take care of their phone and load it up with a bunch of stuff they don’t use or care about.
[doublepost=1514554016][/doublepost]

Did you set up your phone as new to see if you were still having issues?

I personally did a factory reset and I have very few apps on my iphone 6. I booked an appointment at an apple store where I've been told there is no problem at all with my battery and that the reason my iphone being so slow is because it's a very old device. A direct lie!

Anyway after I changed my batter my iphone starting working properly again. My personal experience is that Apple lies to customers. Even if the apple genius didn't know about the issue , he/she represents Apple at that point. They were told to lie...

Most people have used batteries long enough to be conditioned to expect shorter fun times as batteries age. I think most people would not expect devices to run slower as batteries degrade.

The real problem here is apple chose to use/design batteries that can't apply enough current/voltage as they age. Who knows why they did this.

Okay, so replace the battery. That's what they are offering.

Happened to me... Changed battery and phone became normal again... before that apple employee told me my battery is fine.

Apple never committed a Geekbench score to its consumers. They committed a quality smartphone experience and even mentioned their power management system and philosophies on battery life on several occasions.

If consumers didn't like the way Apple power managed or the fact that the batteries were not replaceable, they were free to purchase another smartphone.

They told me that my iphone will be faster than previous iphone versions which is not the case.
